If they don’t fire gase it’s proof positive either they don’t care about winning and/or have absolutely no clue what’s going on. Either way I’m out.
We all know every good to great college Qb does not pan out in the NFL, therefore organizations should be more concerned about their fanbase. Players don’t play for 20 years or more generally, but we root for our favorite teams long past players retiring, being traded, injured etc. To make us suffer for a possible Ryan Leaf would add further insult to our already injured fanhood. We may not live to see next season so play to win the game... build to be champions! One more season to show me they can be a legit franchise... that’s it.
No, the fact that he was able to fire him likely reflects that Williams was going to be gone with Gase, regardless, and firing him now allows the Jets to publicly display they aren’t deliberately trying to lose. It takes a tremendous amount of fear and insecurity to believe Gase will stay just because Williams was fired.
Yes, you play to win the game — that’s the coaches and players. But it takes sound planning to build a wining team, and sound planning can only be achieved with pragmatic, and sometimes difficult decisions, that have immediate negative ramifications but the long term positives are far greater than those short term negatives. Only a fool sacrifices the long term goal for meaningless immediate gratification. If a Super Bowl is the goal, there are times where decisions aren’t based on what will result in wins today but wins later. Management inherently isn’t part of the play to win the game expectation because they aren’t playing any game.
And Gase admitted he should have called timeout! But he still has a job. He could have changed the play, win the game and fired him anyway for thinking it was ok to run that play. Gase ain’t got it as a OC or HC.
If they do not fire Gase a large part of the fan base will leave. Hopefully, the reports are true and the decision has already been made to fire Gase. I like keeping Gase for one reason. He needs to have and own the 0 and 16 record wherever he goes the rest of his career.
His team is 0-12, no fucking shit he ain’t got it as OC or HC. that’s exactly why you play it out the rest of the year with him.
Well, not really. Gase is a QB whisperer and offensive genius, who admittedly knew little on how to run a defense. I don't know if Gregg was a Gase call to begin with. I just know (pre-tank) we were all happy when it was announced Gregg W will be coaching our D. Not so really different when Rex left the offense to Shotty. I think Nacho's red-yellow-green play cards were Rex's sole contribution to our offense, plus James Connor at FB. Gase barely interacts with his own offensive players. It would look strange if he wandered over to that end of the sidelines to interact with Gregg or his d-men. What could Gase possibly have to offer?
Julio is an expensive, aging receiver. He's the type of guy you sign when you feel you're one offensive weapon away from competing for a Super Bowl. He'll be a good fit somewhere but not quite yet for the Jets.
I wouldn't go after Julio; he's 31 years old, which means he could fall off a cliff at any moment, including when we'd be trying to win the SB in Years 3 and 4 of Trevor's rookie deal.
I can see #1 being true. That doesn't mean it is, but it could be. As you said #2, is BS. #3 I could believe in a NY minute. Williams D has been the only thing that kept the Jets in some games this season. I'm certain that he was fed up with Gase's arrogance and incompetence, and I can easily that this was his way of saying fuck you to Gase and to the Johnsons for not firing Gase earlier. It may have been a fuck you to Douglas too, but if so, is weird because it actually helps Douglas going forward. I don't think #4 is reasonable. Early in the game the Jets' D was not doing that well, then Williams changed up some things, the Jets created some TOs and got right back in the game. If he didn't care, he wouldn't have made any adjustments and pretty much have shut down the Raiders in the 4th Qtr. until the very end of the game. I think he was planning on retiring, hated being on the Jets with Gase and all the losing, and figured he'd get fired and still get paid. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he had words with Gase this morning or last night.
Not me. Whatever happens, it's a win-win for me. If he's fired, it's a win for the future of the Jets. If he stays, it's a win for me because I'll be done with this joke of a franchise. It's an embarrassment. I think it's still the only professional major sports team in the US to never have its own home stadium. What a fucking joke! If they retain Gase, I'll hope they never win another game as long as the Johnsons own the team.
two offseasons as well as a #1 CB, but if need be, both can wait until 2022. 2021 has to be about getting Trevor and building around him.
