I don't even know what you could do with a Gholston jersey.I guess it could be a conversation peice if you put it in a frame and have big lettering on it that says "Draft Bust" .Then you could tell people the story of the Jets sad history.

I remember the draft that year....we picked 6th. The whole planet knew there were only 5 good players that year and we (at 6) would be stuck with Vernon. The write up on him is he was a locker room warrior with stiff hips and would have difficulty making the turn to pursue NFL QBs.

    They were right.

Also, there was speculation that NE wanted him and they drafted right after us at 7 so in order to keep him off NE we took him at 6. There may have been some truth to that because as soon as we took him, NE traded down.

This was a damned if we do, damned if we don't draft. No one wanted to draft up to 6 to take him, so we were stuck in concrete. We should have said fuck it, shocked the world, and taken a kicker.

We would have come out ahead.

I remember seeing an interview with Jake Long before he got drafted and him mentioning the only sack he gave up his entire career at Michigan was against Gholston. They showed the clip of the play and straight up, one on one, Gholston beat him ( from the outside I think?) and got the sack.

Truth be told, I thought we were going to have a stud in Gholston when we drafted him. Very disappointing........
