How was my post an example of taking this place too seriously? It wasnt that. You merely do not like me calling you out for expressing an interest in having a message board alliance.

Actually I find pointing out the idiocy of message board alliances amusing. Otherwise I would not bother talking about it.

So again, by your logic, we shouldn't boo or ever critique a team. And we definitely should NEVER, ever spend time on an online forum commenting on a team- since it will have zero tangible effect on how the team is run. You would never do that, would you?

You're trying to make your subjective opinion an objective statement- and it doesn't work. We all can express ourselves. Just because you prefer a message board to a banner doesn't make you superior.

EVERYBODY CAN and should EXPRESS THEMSELVES.

I just don't see why anybody would hold the pretense that what they do will impact the way their team is run or putting banners on billboards and planes is "holding the team accountable".

its not, woody doesn't care, decisions will be made on this team without even thinking about what fans who want to spend money as means of venting their frustration do.

expressing ones self is just fine, but lets treat this like what it is, a method of venting frustration, NOT a method of holding the team accountable.

as the former its satisfying and a logical end to that means, as the latter its an overrated act that won't do its job.

the seattle sounders MLS team actually lets their fans vote on who their GM will be every 4 years. Now THATS a good method of holding your team accountable.

It's so funny to watch Blocker continue to craft an internal caste system toward the board, he's got your Idzik Homers, your Geno Supporters, your Message Board Allies...

I wouldn't be surprised if he was slotting people into categories on a spreadsheet similar to how champ does his SLW thing.

Really does tell you about a person, the way they have to rationalize a community that they can't really just coexist with. I've been called a sociopath here before, which was a hoot, but that really is sociopathic behavior.

That's fine but a backup plan should have been implemented. The guys a third round pick. Expecting him to be a starter by the end of year 1 is 50/50 at best. Patterson is a guy who when he does decide to play for a team usually always gets hurt. I didn't mind the move but Cromartie should have been resigned. He's just a safer bet. Milliner had a really strong final month, but he's a way more talented player then McDougle. Thats why he was picked 9th overall.

I don't think Idzik would have got crap for resigning Cromartie whether he was bad or good. The guy had been with the team for a good while.

I understand you cant judge draft picks right away. But what's scared me so far about Idzik, and once again i'm not saying he should be fired, is his FA moves. He's signed a lot of guys who have just not worked out or at the very least, not been what he expected them to be.

Garrard and Patterson didn't even make it out of PS. Mike Goodson didnt either besides eventually showing up for a brief 2 game appearance. Chris Johnson, while playing better lately, has not been good. He banked on Nelson playing outside opposite Decker and he's off the team. Colon and Breno have not played up to expectations at all. Small sample size I know, and he didn't spend big on any of these guys mentioned, but bad moves are bad moves and so far these moves have not made him look good.

I think when you look at those moves and then consider the fact that a guy like Saunders was drafted and promptly cut. It scares me, and i've been a supporter of Idzik. But I have to be honest. He's going to more then likely be making a monumental decision for this franchise this off season. I'd feel a lot more comfortable about him if he didnt have a lot of these mistakes already. And I know these things happen with all GM's but i'm not worried about other teams GM's. I'm worried about ours.

Blaming Ref's is pointless. All teams get screwed. The Packers were literally robbed of a game by them last year. Losing Patterson and McDougle, guys who have injury histories isn't a huge shocker. In Patterson's case, is Idzik's job to know the character of the guys he's bringing. Has he been unlucky? Sure, to some degree absolutely. But what does a GM get judged on if your just going to give him a break for everything. Patterson was an awful move at a position where everyone knew the Jets were thin at to begin with. Geno not working out is his fault. He drafted him. Once again, what do you judge a GM on if your going to give him a break for every pick he makes?

Aboushi and Dozier are middle round picks who have not proved anything yet. If Aboushi plays well down the stretch of this season i'll give Idzik all the credit he deserves. But I need to see it first. He's done a great job with the cap. I'm not saying we dont need to give him time but I dont think the roster he's assembled is the best that could have been done. I think its's plainly obvious that he overrated his talent at key positions.

Couldn't agree more. You never let the media and fans influence any decision. Go with what you believe in.

This point would make more sense if we had reason to think that what Woody believes in is, if followed, going to lead to favorable results.

We have plenty of reason to think that the contrary is true.

Absolutely. But my point is that an owner should never let his fans make decisions. Fans are entitled to their opinions and they might be right. But the Jets have to do what they believe is in their best interest.

Okay, I get your point and do not disagree with it as a general matter. I just don't see Woody making decisions on his own, without any imput, as a happy situation.

It's easy to say a back-up plan should've been implemented, but the way the NFL is these days, teams are very thin at many positions. The point of the salary cap is to limit how much talent any team can have, so if someone goes down with an injury, as happened to our secondary this year, oftentimes there is no great back-up. I don't think Patterson and Walls are worse than other back-up type corners in the NFL, sure there are some teams loaded at that position, but most teams would've struggled just like us if their top 2-3 corners were lost. And again, this issue is really not a big one in terms of our big (rebuilding) picture. For that, we need to find good young corners, if not Milliner and McDougle, then some others, and neither Patterson nor Cromartie have anything to do with that.

I don't know why those moves scare you. Of all of those, only Giacomini was brought in as a possible long term player, everyone else was either a short term band-aid or someone they wanted to try out. Giacomini, while not great or anything, has actually not been as terrible as some fans think, and would've been even better if Geno could handle the blitz and get rid of the ball faster. But even with him, we are not paying him a lot and are not committed long term. Here's the thing about the others, if you spend a high draft pick, and the player sucks, you lose something (the pick). If you sign a player to a lot of guaranteed money, and he sucks, you lose something (the money and other, better players that money could've been spent for). If you trade something for a player and he sucks, you lose something (whatever you traded). Those are all bad moves. But if you are just bringing in guys to try them out or to be band-aids, and are not losing anything by it, those are not bad moves in the context of rebuilding. You are just essentially taking long shots and hoping one or two will pay off, but even if they don't, no big risk.

I judge him on everything he does, but in a realistic way. Unlike some fans, I don't judge him against perfection or some unrealistic expectations. When I look at his drafts, I don't look at it as how many players did he get out of 12, because that's silly. That 12 means nothing, as past the first 3 picks, it's like finding a needle in a haystack. So when I judge Idzik's drafting, I actually look at the Jets other teams' draft history and judge it against that. And guess what, I find that both the Jets and other teams regularly have drafts where they land zero impact players and/or starters, and finding only one impact player is quite common as well. When you judge his drafts against that, suddenly they don't look so bad, but instead merely average. Beyond that, I don't use hindsight to evaluate his drafting, which is very unfair, but instead look at the actual picks as they looked at the time of the draft. And I really can't find any terrible ones. You might agree and disagree with them, and I disagree with some of them, but none of them strike me as terrible decisions, like say drafting Stephen Hill in the 2nd round based mostly on combine numbers or Ditka trading away his entire draft for Ricky Williams back in the day.

When I judge his FA signings, I don't look at it in an NFL Madden way, where he should've signed Decker, Sanders, and Tate at once. I realize that in the real world, you are competing with other teams and players have their own preferences on where they want to play, so the fact that he managed to sign the guy widely considered the best FA WR available, Decker, seems to speak positively of his ability. When I look at his minor signings that mostly haven't worked out, I realize that those were all gambles, with low risk and high reward, so they shouldn't be looked as a percentage type thing.

I judge him on very successful trades that brought us Ivory and Harvin. I judge him on the great improvement in cap situation, and on keeping our team financially flexible for the future, when more Harvin-type deals might become available.

While you can't say he has been successful yet, overall, I like the direction he is heading in, and believe that given more time, he can build something really nice here.

MLS is FAR from a mickey mouse operation. sure its got its flaws, but it just broke an attendance record for soccer at 19k+ across the league, its attracted loads of investors over the years, and got a major television agreement with FOX and ESPN recently.

So I'd say its doing alright, plus its provided me with an excellent distraction from the depression of being a jets fan with the whole NEW kind of depression of being a red bulls fan! GO METRO!

And with all the cap room the Jets went into the season with Cromartie on a 1 year deal which he inevitably signed for would not have hurt this team. It just wouldnt have.

And yes teams would struggle if their 3 top corners got hurt but banking on injury prone guys like Patterson and McDougle going into a season and staying healthy was a risk. Idzik got burned cause he banked on guys who have problems staying on the field. You get what you get when you decide to go down that road.

Their long term roles dont mean anything. Idzik didnt sign any of those guys with the impression that they probably wouldnt do much for the team (maybe he figured Garrard would simply be a backup but thats it). He signed those guys expecting them to contribute and they simply have been more negative then positive on the field. It just shows a lack of evaluation on his part. Granted he's had some players like Decker, Ivory, Landry work out well for him as well. But there's more bad then good in FA so far under Idzik. Like I said, he hasn't missed big yet but it's just something i've noticed.

How is saying that David Garrard, Chris Johnson, Willie Colon, Dmitri Patterson, Mike Goodson, David Nelson, not working out looking at things in an unrealistic way? Should I be expecting those guys to be bad when he signs them?

Nelson did a decent job for the Jets last year, banking on a player with his limitations coming back, and doing it again while expanding his role was stupid. It just was, and the proof is there, because he's no longer on the team anymore.

Garrard, Patterson, and Goodson didnt even make it till the start of their seasons. Is that not looking at something realistically and expecting more from at least 2 guys who were signed to have big roles with this team?

Chris Johnson and Willie Colon have for the most part been bad players.

What's unrealistic about any of that? It's ok for those guys to stink because their rebuilding?

Nobody, it least not myself, is expecting unrealistic moves. I'm just asking for the moves he does make to work out. The ones i've mentioned have not.

Signing a LG and 2 RB's to be big parts of your team is not low risk. I get that they are rebuilding and that these guys were short term answers for eventual long term guys picked in the draft but their performance still reflects Idzik's decision making. Patterson wasn't low risk. These guys were being counted on to contribute in a positive way for this team. They didn't or haven't so far. Low risk from a dollars standpoint, absolutely. But when your secondary was as bad as it was last year and your answer is to bring in a player whose always hurt and he eventually quits on your team thats a bad job and it reflects on your decision to go after those particular players.

We'll see how the Harvin trade plays out. He's an extremely talented player but it's well known that he is a ticking time bomb. He's done a great job with the cap.
