Are the keep-Idzik people of the opinion that no other GM can come in and pick up where Idzik left off? Is Idzik's master plan so secretive and genius that if we let him go all hope will be lost at putting together a solid long term plan? That seems ridiculous at best.
Good one dude, but I didn't make up a scenario. The truth is firing Idzik will not put us in a bad spot.
This is a fair position to take in theory, but in practice I have never actually seen a GM fired and a new GM brought in to try and continue going down the same path of the previous GM. A change in occupancy of the most powerful position of a franchise generally means a different direction being taken in the franchise. And let's be real. If John Idzik is fired it will be for one reason, and that's because the team lost what will probably be 13 games this year. That's it. If this team wins 5-8 games, he's not fired. So I think the message to the replacement would be very clear. Win games or you're gone. If ownership were okay with taking the necessary lumps that come with a complete bottom to top tear down and re-build, he wouldn't be firing his general manager after two years, which is only an adequate time to assess incredibly short term, and ultimately meaningless results in terms of viewing the team through a rebuilding lens.
If Idziks plan was to basically tank two straight drafts he did a hell of a job, otherwise utter failure.
popular opinion among nfl gms is that it takes 3 years before you can evaluate a draft class. obviously jets fans on the Internet are far more capable than nfl gms.
Idzik was a fool for taking a job that all the top tier candidates passed on (being mandated to keep Rex). He deserves to be fired just for that.
Exactly. Look, Idzik may not be doing an amazing job, but it's his 2nd ever season being GM for god sakes.
So you want to give him 3 more years so we can fully evaluate his drafts? I understand that you can't fully evaluate his drafts but what we have seen so far is simply horrid. There are rookies making impacts throughout the league and with one of the most picks in the draft we don't have a single one and only 1 that looks to have any potential at all. You've seen enough to want to give him 3 more years?
I don't think I know enough about the situation as a fan and I think it would be an extremely dramatic decision to fire a gm after 2 years when you can't even evaluate a single one of his draft classes yet. if people in the know at Florham park see a dumpster fire they should put it out but fans acting like they know what's going on seem silly to me. I'm certainly not impressed by idzik but what do I know?
Can you "not evaluate" guys who can't get on the field bc of a silly little detail like... Hmmm... They were CUT?! Can you not evaluate how terribly he has performed in recruiting talent via free agency? Can you not evaluate his bizarre trade for Percy Harvin when we were 1-6 in a year that his supporters claim he was "saving that $20 million he didn't spend as a salary cap rollover for next year?". And in the process gave up one of his prized "build through the draft" picks? Can you not evaluate the fact that his mantra is competition "the best players will play" but his actions speak otherwise? Can you not evaluate how pathetically inept he presented himself to the fans and the media and inspired absolutely no hope in anybody that he was capable of fixing this? Can you not evaluate the lack of accountability he takes and the bumbling excuses that he offered the fans? Can you not evaluate the fact that no good head coach will come here with him in charge in fear of the job being a 1 year audition? We can. Idzik is a goner.
Oh god. It's actually TWO bad draft classes. And it's also the handling of Free Agency. And really, how many GMs are chosen by a consulting service? It's not about how many, it's about "is it appropriate based on [non-]performance?" I think it is.
The loser GM probably thought he was getting this when he traded for Ivory http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-miss-plays/0ap3000000447954/Wk-16-Can-t-Miss-Play-Beast-quake-2-0 He also passed on this guy in round 2, believing an over-the-hill, overpaid CJ0K was the better option http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12069265
