At secondary school 11yo 1983 a lad in my class was a big fan of American Football, he had a club foot and something wrong with his leg so he didn't play sports. He got us all to pick a team, I picked this pitiful outfit, I still have no reason to give as to why. My favourite colour is blue, I could have been a Giant or Oilers or Lions as really light blue is the blue I like best. 37 years later I am still here hoping and hoping some more.
Dude awesome story. Thanks for sharing. My story. Year 2004. My company said we are moving you to US office. Goodbye Galatasaray. Arrived in USA in 2004. First home is corporate housing in northern NJ. Started watching NFL in 2005. There were 2 New York City teams. Read about their history etc. Jets were the underdogs and fucking Namath had an impressive story. Decided to go with underdogs. Since then, I am a huge Jets fan. Fuck Namath by the way. If I went with Giants, I could have enjoyed 2 Superbowl victories already. Lol. I am kidding. So happy with my choice. Jets all the way.
I would suspect there was involvement of one or more of their parents dealing with an entity named Lucifer.
Well there are many reasons I chose the Jets. I'm a fucking idiot for one. In truth, my old man was always into US sports and was a Giants fan going back before the old C4 days. When the game started to get shown on TV I was just at the right age to want to go against what he did so I chose the big city rivals of his team - which just shows how little we really knew how the game worked back then. Then I got a little deeper into the history of the team being the underdogs, Namath, the guarantee, even Flash Gordon and that the Jets won SBIII just a few months after I was born. It all fitted into place and matched me. But really I did have a real affinity with that mid 80s team as well so even if all the above wasn't true I may have been cursed. I loved the kelly green, KOB throwing bombs to Toon and Walker, Freeman running tough and Klecko, Lyons, Gastineau causing all sorts of mayhem up front. We didn't understand the technicalities, but I was particularly attracted to those aspects of the sport in general and that they were the Jets' strengths in that period (not full stop @donkey ) was what sealed my fate really.
Go to bed UK fans. Jets will win and we will pick Fields and hire another loser like Bowles/Gase. Because we are the Jets.
It's now Monday morning, up for work in little under 7 hours and I feel heartsick in a way I didn't even feel after the AFCC games. I wonder where the line is between love and hate as I'm seriously beginning to feel very badly about this god damn organisation.
The Flash Gordon film is to blame for my 35 years of misery. I had thought New York Jets was just a made up name for the film, but then a few years later when C4 started their highlights show I was shocked when New York Jets popped up. So I picked them to follow. They actually weren't that bad in the early to mid 80's.
