Wow…you are asking for FOUR miracles…seriously? In the last decade and a half we have not: Had a serviceable starting QB or the coaching to “make” one Had a decent backup or the coaching to “make” one More than one decent receiving threat at one time And an improved o-line or the coaching to build one Now WHO are you telling to c’mon? Seriously?
I'm glad the season is finally over, but we helped the Patriots get a better pick so they can select their next great QB and beat us for another decade.
A lot of these top draft pick QBs don't amount to a lot. There's just as much chance the Pats will draft the next great QB bust.
I guess there has to come a time when you ask yourself “why do I bother?”. It’s always a tall task with this team, but I’m still going to hope they saw what we all saw , and know what they need to do , to capitalize on all the other talent on the roster, or maybe find something better to do with my Sundays next fall.
It's not black and white though. The point is we should've made it as unlikely for them as possible. We didn't. They have a better chance at drafting a good QB now than if we had lost.
Tanking doesn't get the team anywhere. We "tried" it in 2020. How'd that work out for us? This organization needs to worry about learning how to win. That's not going to happen by deliberately losing football games. Saleh and his bunch already do enough to instill a losing mentality on our team without deliberately giving the other team the game. I'm not at all worried about the Pats. With the exception of the Brady years, they've been a third rate organization. They'll be our competition for the cellar for the next decade while Miami and Buffalo pound us for the next decade.
Tanking only failed in 2020 because we didn't do it well enough. Same as this year. You win by having good players, coaches, and execs, not by winning meaningless games at the end of seasons that have no tangible impact on the future. Many of the people here saying you can't tank because players always play to win are the same ones who act like meaningless wins somehow motivate those players to want to win more the following year.
It's not about motivation, it's about people who are being paid to win games intentionally not doing their jobs. This team is already good at losing. They do it much more often than they win. They need to learn how to win and laying down and giving another team a victory flies right in the face of that. Which is why teams shouldn't even try. It's incredibly hard to tank for the #1 overall pick and that lousy roster that Maccagnan assembled couldn't pull it off. And the team that did deliberately tank for the "generational" talent we (myself included) all had to have, how is it working out for them? They're at home like us for the playoffs, and Lawrence, while having been decent, has been far from the generational talent he was billed as.
Things worked out pretty well for us last time we had the 10th pick and it’s just as likely the Pats draft the next Zach Wilson at 3 than someone who turns into a HOF QB. I get being a little upset that we fell a few spots in the draft today but we’re still gonna be able to get an impact player on offense at 10. There’s gonna be at least 2 QBs go in the Top 3, maybe another one or two go in the Top 10 and there will probably be a couple of defensive guys that work their way into the Top 10 too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a little pissed we won today too. A loss would’ve effectively locked us into one of Alt, Fashanu, or Nabers at 6 but there will be an immediate starter on offense there for us at 10.
Do you realize you could have posted this exact thing the day the Jets signed Rodgers? If only Johnson realized.
No. Point differential is more meaningful. A 7-10 team that lost a bunch of close games is better than a 7-10 team which got blown out all the time. We're more like the latter.
You know we almost had a consensus here this year that you need to look beyond the statistics. W - L is just the most basic of statistics.
Post game guys said it best the other day. Paraphrasing: “Owners care about draft position. GM’s care about draft position. Fans care about draft position. The guys out on the field don’t care about draft position. They’re playing for contracts, incentives, or just to have a good shot at making the team an again next season”. Get it out of your systems if you need to. Predict doom and gloom from the Jets winning a game. I guess it’s just “The Jets Way”.
Just heard the entire Jet OCS will be returning. Carter and the other idiot Passing Game Coordinator will be returning along with our favorite OC, Hackett. If there was any hope, its gone now. Even the living legend Kal EL himself can't save this franchise.
I'm glad the Jets won yesterday. I always celebrate a victory no matter the circumstances. The weather played right into the Jets offensive strength, running the ball. I'm not in the least concerned about the Jets draft position. The Jets will have plenty of talent to choose from at that position, if they choose wisely, a big IF. In addition, I'm not concerned about the Pats draft position either. They have not drafted well in the first round for years, although the last guy they took, Gonzalez, seems like a good one. I think they are still looking for Tom Brady in Round 6. What does concern me is Aaron Rodgers. Speaking of purgatory, this is a deal with the Devil that keeps us in it. There is virtually no chance he is going to win a SB at age 41 or beyond and his presence only prevents the Jets from drafting a promising QB among a lot of talented ones coming out this year.
We haven’t had a legit chance at getting to and winning a Super Bowl since 1998. The Rex teams were cute but they were not SB caliber. The Chad teams were such a fugaze moment for the Jets because Chad played like a bitch, and the post Rex Jets have been disgraceful. This is not purgatory, this is the hell of football.
