the difference is the marlins got rid of some good players. we are "gutting" a 6-10 team. so far most of the guys that are gone had more to do with the 10 than the 6.
It's gonna feel like the Kotite era has returned watching the games this year. Hopefully, 2 years from now, the Jets are legit contenders.
Why am i the only one who thinks we have a shot this year, I still think we have a real chance at making the playoffs. The offense is gonna be the key, We still have Holmes,Mangold,DBrick, and whoever else we draft and sign. I still think under Marty Mornywhig Sanchez could have a turn around year. On defense we still have Coples,Wilk,Cro,Wilson,Harris. Lets just wait and see what the roster looks like after the draft before we start saying what our record is gonna be
If, big "IF", Mornhinweg can make this an average - just below average offense we can totally have a shot next year. Takeaway some turnovers here and there an we could have won 3-4 more games last year. On defense we have only really lost Landry, we didn't have Revis last year anyways, if Coples continues progressing he will be a force, its not too hard to improve the LBs from last year, and that just leaves us with safety which there is looking to be plenty of 1 year gap fillers available in FA. I say our talented and progressing DL and our hopefully new athletic LBs will make up for the downgrade of losing Landry.
. Seriously, WE. DONT. HAVE. TALENT. We can't keep a bunch of mediocre players to these contracts. I'll be excited to watch the team this year - watching for developments from the rookies and our 3rd round players. Who are we going to miss exactly? The reason the Yankees are so boring to watch is cause they've got a bunch of old players held together by ducktape. The Jets have needed to do this for awhile, I'm finally glad this is happening, BLOW IT ALL UP!
Agreed, plus: Landry - risky deal at 6 mill per year + 14 mill guaranteed (because of injuries) DeVito - overpaid at 4 mill per year Greene - overpaid at 3.1 mill per year Out of the guys that have left the only one I'm pissed about is Bell because I think whatever the Cardinals offered we could've offered for a 1 yr deal... but I guess we didn't actually want him. I'm happy we didn't overpay for any of our FAs.
Or maybe they want to throw Bush into the fire, or have another plan. Remember Bell is no spring chicken.
Another problem is we still haven't won anything...The Marlins won a couple of World Series...The Jets haven't even had a home playoff game during this run...
This!!! No sense in overpaying for underproductive mediocre talent. Bell wasn't that good so no reason to overpay him. Greene, had a chance and couldn't produce, Thomas..too old. If we're gonna suck may as well suck with a young inexpensive roster that can get better with experience and if they don't produce the cap hit isn't terrible when we cut them. We have to find players in the draft, this "making a splash in FA" almost never works.
