Buddy Ryans Ds have been a huge influence on him.
Like Buddy he doesn't like HCs sticking their nose in his D either.
All depends on his personal dynamic with Gase. I could see that being combustible but I wouldn't mind the attitude and juice he'd bring to the D.

See I feel like we are chasing the same amount of holes in both. But mostly I think williams would be dominant in a 4-3 .

If it means putting a bounty on William's head to get him--do it.

Vance Joseph will likely be the DC. He was Gase's DC before and was successful in that role. What stands out about Joseph is that he switches between a 3-4 and a 4-3 depending on personnel. That means that he has a flexible system and can adjust it based on his personnel. That's something only the very best coaches can do. Incidentally, that's also supposed to be true for Gase on the offensive side of the ball.

Every offensive and defensive system in the NFL can work well with the right personnel (Schottenheimer's offense might be the exception to this rule). That's why you see coaches with tremendous success on the offensive or defensive side of the ball go to new teams that have some talented players and then stink (see Rex with the bills).

I was initially disappointed with the Gase hire, but after learning more about him, I find myself hopeful for the future. At the very least, he's a very good choice to mentor Darnold.

Williams will likely get another HC offer in the next few years and his leaving at that time would cause instability for the team. I'm not sure that will happen as quickly with Vance Joseph because he's much younger and was unsuccessful in his first head coaching gig.

Also, some people note that Ruhl walked away when it became clear that the front office wanted to have a say in choosing his coaches, but Ruhl was a college coach with no NFL experience and limited NFL relationships. For him, it made sense for the front office to have some say in choosing his coaches - we don't know if that's true for Gase. If it isn't I think his choice will be Joseph.

I like Williams - pretty much what I want in a D coordinator. Borderline psycho, looks crazy, seems to hate opposing teams' players AND seems like he will encourage the inevitable fisticuffs that are going to take place between Gase and Jamal...

IIRC the Saints had the fewest penalties that year for unnecessary roughness. So while the locker room video and other stuff was very damning, the play on the field was apparently legal

I'd be on board with Williams. At least we can put a bounty on Brady LOL. Seriously, though he's a good DC, I doubt the Saints win that superbowl without him.

Williams is the guy here. He's been a top DC in this league forever. Vance Joseph doesn't hold a candle to him. Don't F this one up Mac and Johnson.

    Didn’t Cleveland have a bottom 25 defense?

Joseph's is in AZ today interviewing for the job. AZ is absolutely committed to going back to a 3/4 D.

NFL.com has the Browns as the 3rd overall defensive team.

Read the guys wiki page. It says he “somehow became hired as an OC yet again.”

Joseph is going around taking DC interviews with other teams. Go get Gregg.

I’ll put up $100 if they can knock Brady out for the year

The owners are calling the shots and staff is being put together by MacJohnson.

Probably the main reason Rhule said NTY.
