I think letting Gase go before the bye week is the obvious move at this point. Gives the Jets a head start on the real HC search and allows them to see Darnold without Gase anywhere to be found.
You think we've not started? Ive never seen a competant sports franchise not start looking before they sack a dude. Not like were going to hire our next lomg term HC next week. We have to get through the calander first. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
It's not about turning the season around. It's not about a playoff push. It's not about a staff transition. It's about answering the question "What is Sam Darnold?" The more time Sam Darnold gets to show what he is without the influence of Gase, the more beneficial it is to the New York Jets as far as planning for the future. Every week waited is a week wasted.
At this point Darnold has 10 games left to prove he is a franchise QB for the New York Jets. The difference between Gase and who-the-fuck else is gonna take over is negligible. The offense won’t change. The receivers won’t change. The Jets are not going to win games. Darnold just has to play without mistakes, hit the open receivers, get the ball out quickly, and create a few plays per game on his own. Yes, a different coach over Gase the last 2 years could have made a difference. A different coach over Gase for the next 2 months is not.
Last year we had a super easy second half schedule, and our offense was 32 because we had a stretch with Luke Falk at QB. This year our second half schedule is hard, Gase has lost the locker room, and I'm not sure how much better Sam is than Flacco. I'd say we have 50/50 odds of getting the top pick.
What has JD done to prove he is the answer 1 1/2 yrs in. Traded our Best player for less than the fins got for a marginal left tackle . Houston is running for a top ten pick this yr. Houston got fleeced . JD got to piggy back that deal and got much less value. JD oversaw the destroying of our second best asset in Sam. Look at what we had in Sam when JD got here and what he is now. How has JD done anything to think he is the answer? He got Becton who look good and a whole lot of major reaches
Tunsil is not marginal, he’s one of the best. LT is also more valuable than Safety. The top OT deal is worth nearly $8mm more than the top Safety deal. Also, Joe Douglas is not 1.5 years in. He’s 0.5 years in. He started up in New York after the 2019 Free Agency Period and 2019 Draft. That means the results of any of his meaningful moves has only been visible through these 7 games. I need to watch the game again but I saw some good things from Mims today, as well as Perine and Huff.
This is the first time in a long time that we have a GM dedicated to increasing our draft picks over a multiple year span. We always seem to trade up or trade picks for veterans who don’t do much. I am curious to see how this all plays out especially since Joe Douglas’ picks looked pretty good today.
