I believe it means at least a 7th but can become a lower pick depending on playing time/snaps/games started

    Thank godddd.

I REALLY hope this guy can stay healthy and become our new RT for the near future. Enough of WFH.

Smart move by the front office. I'm hoping he stays healthy, at least for that tough stretch at the start of the season.

I am glad this season we have addressed weaknesses w/ potential upgrades:\

    Eric Smith with Yeremiah Bell

    Wayne Hunter with Jeff Otah

    Mark Sanchez with Tim Tebow

    Competition , gotta love it.

    You lost me there, son...

Tebow is not an upgrade over anybody - even that backup QB in Buffalo.

Vince Young or the quarterback that's finished ahead of Mark Sanchez in qb rating the last two seasons?

Anyone is an upgrade over Hunter the way he played last season. Glad we finally made a move on the line

Otah is a talented guy, he has to stay healthy but wasn't that the knock on Damien Woody when we got him?(in addition to playing a new position). Let's hope it works out like Woody but either way they made a good move and we have some pretty good depth and competition at RT.

So now we have a potential minefield in both our secondary and our right side with this addition. IF this guy can stay on the field (where have we heard that one before?), he'll be great. His history says he can't but since we got him for next to nothing, no risk on our part. Add him to our list of gimpy recent signings and yeah, I'm not feeling the warm and fuzzies about this.

I just do not understand why the Jets would not try to address this situation in the draft as opposed to getting a guy with a questionable at best health history. Low risk high reward?!? Maybe, I would have rather they addressed this in the draft.

which of our top 3 draft picks would you swap out for an OT right now?

because I would much rather have all 3 of the guys we got than any of the OT's available at the selections we used on Coples, Hill and Davis.

Some organizations don't talk much to the press at all other than what the head coach and players put out there. Obviously with Rex that's a potential issue since his message control is a bit weak, however it's a pretty sound organizational philosophy to have one person do most of the talking and the head coach is that person.

The Jets have a tendency to leak from different places in the organization and this is part of what feeds the NY media frenzy around them. It's just my perspective on the issue but I think the Giants do a lot less of this.

A big part of the Sanchez/Holmes/Mehta fiasco in January was the fact that the anonymous sources Mehta used included not just players but also other people in the organization, at least if you read between the lines of what he wrote.

Anytime you get into a situation where multiple levels of the organization are all talking about something in particular you lose the ability to control the message the organization is trying to get out there. When they're doing it anonymously you lose something more fundamental, which is control of the messaging system itself.

Spot on; if two of these guys (Landry, Schilens, Otah) can stay healthy ALL YEAR then we are in for a real treat. If not, then we could be in real trouble as all of these players are in NEED positions.

I really like this move it reminds me of some of the good trades of 2 years ago...low risk and v high reward

Difference to likes of Fat Albert is this is injuries not really mentality or ethic....if fit he is a top 20 RT..its a big IF but thats why its such a low risk move

Not long til the football season guys and gals....bloods pumping again!!

Low risk potential high reward seems to be the consensus.

The optimist in me hopes that Otah stays healthy, the single worst starter on the team has been removed from the starting lineup (imo teams that fail to do this in an off season are guilty of criminal negligence), and as a side note either VD succeeds as the backup OG or he's cut, too - VD is a total wasted roster spot, as far as I am concerned.

And of course the Jets gave up little. But...

Ftr, as of yesterday, given what the situation was, I would also have made this move. But:

    1. Imo it does not excuse the lack of attention this FO has given the OL the last few years.

    2. Hunter's contract is guaranteed, and Otah is no sure thing durability wise. Hunter will be on the team at least through the end of this season.

    3. Cost - it is not entirely true that the cost is limited to a low pick. There is I think an opportunity cost here, depending on who may become available as other teams make roster moves. Since Hunter's contract is guaranteed, he's probably staying no matter what. If some other OT becomes available, say a more durable one but with perhaps less upside talent, do the Jets pass on that because they've already got Otah?

    4. Otah also sounds like a coaching challenge. The offensive coaching staff already has their plate full.

So, overall, I am hopeful and slightly overall positive on this move.

    But not a lot.

I'm pretty sure I can find some CFL'er who can play better than Wayne Hunter.

Let's hope Otah doesn't become JFO.

That was my concern as well, by bringing in Otah, do they consider this problem solved? It may well be, but we won't know for a while.

I do think a better functioning offense will mean less problems from the RT position, whoever ends up playing there.

Good call. I like our picks and maybe they knew they would have further opportunities like this or camp casualties to add some depth at that spot instead of using a draft pick when they may not have had any RTs high on their list.
