I think the trade falling through is a good thing for the Jets. What was the best case scenario, that he plays well and then leaves in free agency? Only if that led to a SB title would that be a good thing. Draft choices are important to every team but especially one which is cap strapped...and that's true regardless of round.

You're right! It would have sucked if he had come in and played well. :breakdance:

Yeah having a good RT for the year would've sucked.
And if he commanded big money in FA, that 5th or 6th round compensatory pick would have sucked too (assuming we didn't just sign him ourselves).

Glad we still have that 7th round pick!

Some posters need to improve their reading comprehension: I never mentioned the DL.

Second point, somebody among the people who make decisions on whom the Jets draft hasn't paid much attention to the OL since 2006. The Jets have drafted just 4 OLers since 2006: an OT in the 6th in 2007, another OT in the 7th in 2008, a G in the 2nd in 2010, and another G in the 6th in 2012. Six years is a long time to stand pat with any unit without adding significant potential new blood through high/medium draft picks.

You can argue that the Jets couldn't afford to get a FA RT, and that's true, but there were plenty of good prospects in the draft. The lack of affordable FAs made it mandatory that the Jets consider adding some OLers. Instead, they chose to spend their picks on the defense and creating a QB controversy. That fourth rounder the Jets used on Tebow could have gotten them a decent OT prospect. That's an especially bad move because the Jets had just signed Drew Stanton to be Sanchez's backup QB.

After 2009, when Faneca left, the Jets simply promoted a guy on the roster.
After 2010, when Woody left, the Jets simply promoted a guy on the roster.
After 2011, when Hunter sucked, Slauson played average, and Moore struggled to get to form from an injury, the Jets stood pat.

Now, they're scrambling to find a RT??? DUH!

I'm NOT the one who doesn't know what I'm talking about.

What "crap" am I "doing over here"? I've given my opinion on the Jets OL woes and where it seems the blame for those woes belongs, and some Jets fans don't want to hear that.

Being a Bills fan, I'm an expert on stupid FO moves concerning the OL, having watched Tom Donahoe and Russ Brandon repeatedly fuck up the Bills OL during their regimes. Quick, name the LG who replaced Pro Bowler Ruben Brown after Donahoe kicked him to the curb. I bet you don't remember the totally forgettable Fat Benny the Penalty Anderson who supposedly replaced Ruben. FBTPA is what teams get when they go dumpster diving for OLers after TCs start ... ask Miami who picked him up after the Bills couldn't stand him any more!

What about Brandon's bright idea to trade Pro Bowler Jason Peters for next-to-nothing and his accomplice Dick Jauron's other bright idea to have Langston Walker play LT? That worked well, didn't it?? .... Well, actually it did since the crappy OL play contributed to Jauron getting axed, Brandon being kicked upstairs out of football operations, and Buddy Nix becoming the Bills GM. Maybe the Jets fans will be as lucky.

You don't have to keep declaring yourself as a Bills fan if you have a Bills avatar. Or do you?

Why do trolls who root for other teams feel the need to come on another teams message board?

Why do the moderators allow this?

Sick of these guys especially the Bills jackass posse.

Just fact checking: Jets also spent a sixth round pick on Slauson in 2009.

This means the Jets have drafted one lineman in each draft between 2007 and 2012, expect in 2011. How much more do you need in order to "pay attention to OL?" If you look around the league most teams re-tool their line by taking projects in the mid to late rounds, you usually only need to have a high draft pick at the LT position.

You're discounting the fact that the Jets went out and made two big signings in FA over that same time period, Faneca and Woody. Ferguson, Mangold and Moore have had their positions locked down in that time frame, as a fan I'd be upset in 2007-2010 if we were throwing away high draft picks when OL was easily the team's greatest strength. I think having a pick in the 6th or 7th round every year in that span is sufficient, you have other holes to fill with your premium picks.

The Jets have had too many other needs over the past half decade to throw away high picks on lineman. Looking at our picks in the first three rounds between 2007 and now, we've plucked guys like Revis, Harris, Keller, Sanchez, Greene, Wilson and Wilkerson, who have all been productive and filled bigger holes on the team. Our one first day OL pick in that span has been a huge whiff to this point, and ultimately we're not even having this conversation if Ducasse had panned out and is our starting RT at this point.

I'm sorry you don't value late round draft picks. Most people see them as a cost effective way to add depth or even a starter (Connor, Slauson etc.). They become more important when you're in tough cap shape.

This board is for people who want to discuss the Jets, not necessarily just for Jets fans.

Why are so many people here such babies about other fans? Boo-hoo, it's the Internet, grow a pair.

Because he's not a troll. We may not like his opinions but that doesn't make him a troll. I don't see him starting threads saying that we suck and the Bills are going to raise the trophy. If he did he'd be gone.

Or are you trying to come to grips with the Seahawks signing Braylon?

You are just lashing out, aren't you?
