I do. No Opportunity to win on the last play. That is an Improvement. Pennington taking consecutive knees, beats praying for Mare to miss.
Let's face it the D is bad. You can sugar coat it any way you wish by saying baby steps, progress, etc. The one thing going for them is that they are very opportunistic. If it were not for thier penchant for causing turnovers, they would be really bad. But, this is what we have and we have to live with it this year.
we didn't have any 3 and outs in the 4th quater - kitna was one of th emost sacked QBs in the league and we got to him 1 time --- we need to generate a pass rush -- teams can take 3 step 5 step or 7 step drops on our line and still have all day to throw which makes out secondary look horrible! This defense will not be able to beat solid teams - bears, Pats, Minn
We're talking about the defense here. As I noted the offense(and Detroits god awful defense) was the difference between the ending of the game last week and this week, not the play of the Jets defense.
The reason why im pissed and started this thread is that the 1st 2 weeks we actually were OK/not great on D but ever since Peyton Ripped our DBs apart and humiliated them, it seems that our DBs are scared that they will get embarrassed again and they play WRs like 10-50 yards away
I agree with Junc on this. I thought the LB play over all was a little better than we have seen in awhile. Both Barton and Thomas actually played pretty well yesterday. DRob while better is still small and so is Vilma. There running back is a load and untill we get some more beef in the middle a guy like that is going to be a handfull. They took out Rogers and the other guy killed us but the D did look over all a little better. Detriot has weapons on O and there really wasn't a point in that game when the outcome was in doubt.
This defense needs a bad-ass 3-4 nose tackle. I really think this off-season it should be a bigger priority then rb.
He simply is to small for this D right now. I thought he was over rated last year. He was more of a tackling machine last year but he was getting alot of tackles 4 and 5 yards past the Line of Scrimage. We need guys who are going to stone people at the LOS once in awhile and Vilma to me is more of a pursuit guy than a guy who stuffs runs between the tackles.
True enough, however if the O scores two td's in the first qtr against NE, and INDY we win those games. So, is our D bad, or is our offense bad? We have not been playing from behind, all that often....and the O never scores early... Realistically, if you look past the 41 to Jville and the 31 to the colts(a game we should have won) our PPG drops from 24, to around 21 or so, which puts us in the middle of the league. I'd like to see us get under 20 a game, but its hard to complain, when we are where we are...
as bad as the Jets run D is when teams feel obligated to run the ball it actually helps them. no matter how good your RB is or how bad the defense is it's going to be tough to get as much yardage as quickly on the ground. when we get into the "pass or die" situations the defense shows its true colors as they are unable to generate any pressure or cover effectively downfield. also, in the miami game as well as against detroit each team had several dropped passes that stalled drives early on.
That was especially true against Indy. I also agree it would be nice to see something happen in the passing defense, when we are ahead late....
Bright spots DRob and Barton were much more active. But we generate NO PASS RUSH. We have to find a passrushing LB in the Draft or FA this year.
I agree, BRob and Barton are stepping up but you can't overlook Hobson?s play, he's really been coming up big. BUT ANYWAY!! I just think we're in for a rude awakening (again -- Jax game) when we play above .500 football teams. Enough with the glass is half full shit, we are still a second class NFL team!
Hobson has been playing well. I think, for us, the glass is half full. We're a second tier team right now with a chance to make some noise because of our schedule. Lets enjoy it and rub it in the faces of the "experts" who picked us to go 2-14 this year.
