Says reason and common sense. We're in a grumpy mood this morning, aren't we? Cro played much worse last season than Williams could play and he didn't undo the secondary. If nothing else, at this stage of their careers, Williams is obviously a better ball hawk, and even if he is worse in coverage than Cro (which is almost impossible to fathom), he would more than make up for it with picks and being a better and more willing tackler than Cro.
The coaching staff started Cro last year because he was the better player. Perhaps Williams can take a step forward but adding another talented CB to our team would be a good idea. If Cro is willing to come back on a cheaper deal we should look into it.
JPP had 5 tackles the whole game, it was Ayers who had a bigger game than him going against Winters. Breno did not get destroyed, he was getting clubbed to the head the whole game which should have resulted in some penalties. Winters is the weak link on that side and has been his whole tenure with the jets. If the jets want to go younger and cheaper thats fine, but if Winters is in the guard position, that side of the line is going to struggle. I'm of the opinion that if they can upgrade the RG position that Wintears holds and keep Breno for one more year, the line will be better than replacing Breno and keeping Winters.
Idk if Cro was the better player I think he had a good relationship with TB which helped him get playing time ... the stats don't lie
Yes, because Bowles knew Cro, didn't know Williams, and you don't sign a FA to an $8 million per year contract (or whatever it was) and then sit him on the bench. I have no problems with the team adding another CB either via the draft or FA (if they can afford it after they've addressed positions where there are true holes like OLB, TE, RG and RB). I don't want Cro back for anything more than the vet minimum. With his unwillingness to tackle, and pathetic attempts at tackling, lousy technique and declining speed and athleticism, he's not worth any more than vet minimum imo.
You could possibly be right, and may have to keep Breno for one more year, but I'd love to see them replace him this season. They HAVE to replace Winters if they're not gonna replace Breno.
^^This He did a couple things at the end of some season way back. He showed flashes he's not too good most of the time otherwise. I'll believe he can actually play any good when actually I see it over the course of a few games Gimme Skrine and Williams over Cro and Rehab Island all day.
I understand it's about money and cutting Breno will allow the biggest savings, I'm just trying to look at the big picture and not just the financial part of it.
Regarding Cro... There has been something of a history of a difference of opinion regarding his contributions here. I merely want to make clear I do not think Williams is a sure thing as his replacement. We will see what the Jets organization does about the #2 Cb this off season. If they stick with Williams and he does well, I will admit I was late to his fanclub, and be as happy as anyone. I just am not there yet.
I understand. There is reason to have doubts. The Star Ledger points out that Jerraud Powers, CB of the Cards is a FA. Could Bowles want him here? It will be interesting to see what the Jets do.
Have you heard Stephen A. Smith and what's his face go at it regarding where Cromartie will wind up on ESPN? Hilarious!
Good point. Fuck the rest of the roster. Let's build the dream team in the secondary. That worked out well for Philadelphia years back.
What happened to last year's fifth or sixth pick, I don't remember, Jarvis Harrison? Is he any good? At least is he any better than Winters? Edit: remember his face at the Detroit's game?
He was on the PS. We'll see. I'm hoping that at a minimum he will become a solid backup OG. I'd love to see him develop into a quality starter, but that may be hoping for too much.
Well, both have certainly produced no better than any rookie would. I see what you're saying. I just can't see Brick making that kinda dough at this point. Giacomini has never really been much more than an average starter. Brick needs to take a pay cut, a big one. Giacomini, on the other hand, is expendable.
Setting aside the fact 5 tackles by a d-lineman is a pretty good game, judging what kind of game a DE with one hand had against a tackle based on the number of tackles is kind of funny. If JPP's success was solely based on clubbing, then he would have the same success against everyone. I'm not in let's cut Breno just for living camp, but I'm not disillusioned to the point where I can't recognize his struggles.
A rookie could be Wayne Hunter all over again, especially a later round pick. Then again Hunter might be the worst OT I've ever seen.
