No the only way if he's on the roster by the start of next season- than that 11 million fully guaranteed. Like with Coples the Jets didn't take a cap hit for 7.5 million when he was cut.
it is however, guranteed if the player gets injured and the injury carries into 2017. on that note you could see the hesitancy to pick up millner's option
I was suggesting cutting D'Brick down to $5M counting the roster bonus and then giving the incentives that can push the money back up. With Giacomini it would just be a cut to $2.5M. With Kerley there's no difference between a cut and a trade in terms of dead money and cap savings. Getting a 6th or 7th back for him would just be recouping the pick we gave up for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Somebody will bite at that number. He'll have a $2.5M cap hit for them next season, which is good for a slot receiver and in a lot of systems he would be better than the one the Jets are running.
By releasing Giacomini, Kerley and Cumberland the Jets would free up around 7M. Could have close to 30M. Jets have cap space to make moves, but like Tannebaum a while back, Mac needs to make sure he spends it on the right players.
Perhaps it's semantics, but in restructuring their contracts, dead money would get pushed into the future years of their contracts. That's what I object to. The Jets should want to be able to cut bait with both of them and have as little dead money on the cap for them as possible, and be able to save as much as they can. That's why I object to that. If the cap hit would be the same for Kerley, great! That's why I asked.
What's the chance Dee Milliner gets hurt? Only 99% chance of that happening. Good job and that does make a difference whether to pick up the fifth year option.
Even if Milliner plays better I'd say there's a .00000000001% chance he's going to play up to an $11 million contract. Let's say he plays well, you still can't commit more than say $8 million or so to him given his injury history without seeing him stay healthy and play well for 2 years or more. At least not a contract without an injury based incentive clause.
It costs about $13 mil to put a franchise tag on a CB. I am guessing the transition tag giving us the right to match would be $10-11 mil. I don't think paying Millner $11 mil for a one year option makes any sense based upon what he has shown us so far.
Last year Prince Amukamura played out his 5th year option at 6.89 mill . This season DreKirpatrick (Bengals) is playing his 5th year at 7.5 mil. As per over the cap
Without looking, Coples was a 16th overall pick and his 5th year option was close to $8mil. Milliner was 9th overall a year later, $11mil doesn't sound that far fetched to me.
Now I'm confused. Stefon Gilmore is playing his 5th year at 11 mil Why so much more then Kirpatrick ?????
They were picks #19 and #17 respectively. The rookie scale is dependent upon draft position, not performance.
Its ok. Still alot of easy restructure to make. Nothing happens in this league until it absolutely has to
I don't know. Just read we have the least cap space in the league at this point. It's starting to look bleak. Even if we restructure we still won't have money to compete with these other teams even for our own guys. I didn't expect much and I'm fine with not making any big splashes in free agency and building through the draft. Just concerned we are losing some key pieces and don't have money or many draft picks this year to adequately replace them.
If a team ever needed to ace the draft to compete this is that team. We have a couple of huge potential leaps next year out of Leonard Williams and Lorenzo Mauldin IV. It wouldn't hurt if Devin Smith made the leap also. Then you need at least a couple of our picks this year to step in and play at a high level. It isn't outside the bounds of reason to think that might happen. Teams do get a couple of great immediate starters out of the draft now and then. We need to be that team this year.
