Jets really need to fix coverage on TEs and backs coming out. Everybody knows it's their Achilles heel and everybody is attacking it in full. More pressure would help but if they can't get that they better find somebody who can cover these people.
I guess you did not watch the game because Rob did his job last night. He had our O on it's heels pretty much all night (except for two drives). They lost because their QB folded like a $2 whore, with a fumble and a pick but their D was great most of the night without 2 of their top 3 CBs.
I have to say that Dallas' defense looked scary. If I were a Cowgirls fan, even with the loss, I'd be optimistic about how defense. I'm disappointed that our offense didn't play better, but I'm happy we made it out with the win. Nick Folk hero!
I agree. If they had even average corners on the field, they'd be tough to beat. That front 7 is strong.
he used up all his energy after scoring on Cro and then talking and roughing it up with Revis thinking he'll own him too.
Last night was the definition of a team effort. I've lost count of the little things that won the game for us. -LT staying on his feet to fall beyond the first down marker on 3rd down. -Leonhard's tackle on Witten. -Bart Scott closing holes and crushing RBs on 3rd down runs. -Plaxico killing Jenkins and 4th quarter catches seemed to light a fire in the Jets.
Bryant must have picked up an injury, there's surely no way he could have been so out of condition that he couldn't play the second half.
to those discussing Wilson, he was great. Don't believe he even allowed a reception. He was stellar in the slot, and on the outside. He was fantastic. I may be out of my mind... but I kind of want to see Wilson on Mercedes Lewis next week. I wonder if he could be our solution to the TE problem. If he could be, we could be very scary. Especially since we know Strickland is a beast covering the slot.
Pros: Kyle Wilson-Good Game not only in coverage but in the running game. Bart Scott- despite blowing a big tackle, he was a monster in the run game. He also was consistenly getting to the QB in the 1st half Jim Leonhard-played with tons of energy. made key tackles and stuck his nose in to help with the run. Most importantly, he didnt get torched in coverage. Darrelle Revis-Bandwagon haters will boast about the 2 receptions he gave up but he mandhandled Austin and when on Bryant, he frustrated him and took him out of his game. Bryant was more worried about wrestling with Revis than getting open. Mo Wilkerson- did well against the run. He was getting held ALL NIGHT! No Huddle/Two minute offense- really our only success in O. As with last year, it is our bread and butter in the pass game. Plaxico Burress-despite a lack luster 1st half,he came up big in the biggest moments! He was clutch and confident. Calvin Pace- like Scott,he made Romo uncomfortable. Brick Ferguson-Did pretty well against Ware. Our Run defense- shut down everything between the tackles and limited yardage on outside runs. That was key given the speed of their backs. Special Teams D-self explanatory. Westhoff strikes again. Nick Folk- Glad we got the good Folk and not the bad! Big time clutch kick against the team that ditched him Brian Thomas- Although I don't like him, this was the best I've ever seen him shed blocks. He made plays last night that I've never sen him make. TJ Conley- boomed some big punts AND they had the appropriate amount of hangtime.
Cons: Our offense-We simply cannot continue to put our defense on the field after 3 n outs. I'm sure the D barely tasted the Gatorade. We can't expect to win a SB if we can't move the ball consistently until the 4th qtr.Schottenheimer gets 70% of the blame and MArk gets 30% for not being consistent. The play calling was awful but Mark missed on easy throws, especialy those quick throws to WR off of the snap. Derrick Mason-I thought he looked old. I dont think we utilized him in slant routes enough but still. His bread and butter is being a possession receiver who runs crisp routes. He came out of breaks kinda slow last night. Kerley- Not because he bobbled the punt but because we didnt use him. As quick as he is, he should have been in the slot running drag routes or something. I hope he doesn't get the Brad Smith treatment. Eric Smith- As predicted, he's good on run plays but terrible in coverage. Mark Sanchez- He did well in the no huddle as usual and I attribute some of his woes to poor play calling. However, he reverted back to rookie Mark last night. KEEP TWO HANDS ON THE FOOTBALL! Our TE/RB coverage in the flats- If your a LB or Safety, and your not blitzing...find a man. If they catch the ball in the flats or a TE catches the ball, MAKE A TACKLE!
I can see the argument for that if they think Wilson is ready to play the #2 role, I know a number of people on here who know what they're talking about seem to think that Wilson is better suited to playing outside than in the slot.
I'm concerned about the slow starts (again). Seems like we're picking up where we left off in that department. It's almost like we can't get fired up until we get scored upon, waiting for the other team to start playing loose before we can. Dallas was physical from the start and it showed in their first, almost effortless scoring drive while their defense forced us into the usual, early-on, 3-and-outs. Where's the "ground and pound?" My second biggest concern on offense. If you can't control the LOS to accomplish that, it's going to be a long season offensively.
Johnny, If there is ever a game to let Wilson take the #2 wideout it is this one, Jags have no one other than Thomas......and we put Revis on him and be done.
One thing I found interesting was it looked like Dallas was trying to beat our blitz with the deep pass. Can anyone confirm this for me? If so, I'll be interested to see if other teams employ that strategy against us.
I don't agree at all. This team did not play their best, no, but on a night when they were not playing their best, against a team who was clearly motivated and very well prepared, they REFUSED to go away and KEPT FIGHTING until the very end to pull the game out. THIS is what championship caliber teams do.....heart can not be taught, or installed, it has to come from within. At least for now...this team certainly has heart - lots of it - and that is a BIG TIME step toward getting back to the big show....... ......the rest can be fixed. Nice fucking job JETS !
Sure - and I can see an argument for putting Cromartie's athletic abilities and ball skills against Lewis on the basis that McCown and Lewis looks like a pick waiting to happen.
