You kind of get the sense Jalin Marshall's days are numbered with the way things have gone. Getting benched, getting in trouble, drafting two WRs, signing a third that does the same thing he does. I'm fine with it... there is enough talent in this WR corps that I think we'll be ok without him.
Agreed. I always find myself rooting for the underdog and especially when they are talented and can help our team. Though an upgrade is an upgrade and I'm very enthusiastic about the receivers we drafted and those brought into mini camp. Actually, I think we had some good prospects this year period. Hopefully I'll have a handful to root for as adding young cheap talent is never a bad thing. Also the level of competition is increasing, wether its at the top, middle or bottom, players thinking their playing time is secure is slowly becoming a thing of the past.
Apart from qb, the wr depth chart should the most interesting thing to watch this summer. Decker Enunwa Hanson Stewart Anderson I think are locks. Who will the 6th wr be?
Even though the Jets signed Quinton Patton, he's coming off a broken foot and I don't think he nor Decker have a spot on lock. The following are rankings off nfldraftscout.com out of 439 WR's. Stewart 7th. Hanson 11th. --------------------------- KD Canon 19th. Signed. Cut by 49'ers. Keevan Lucas 45th. Tryout, failed Bills Medical. Gabe Marks 52nd. Signed. Brisley Estime 116th. Signed. Rashard Davis 151st. Tryout. Anthony Dimarisco N/A. Tryout. We definitely picked up some talented WR's in the draft and in the UDFA Market. It's too early to tell but I think 2-3 off that list could make the team, 1-3 as KR/PRs/Special Teams, with 1-2 getting small WR play time. I heard good things about most of them especially Canon and Marks, then Canon gets cut by the 49's. Edit- I wanted to add more on Decker .. though I think he's a great Jet on and off the field and the fact we could use another veteran WR, there's no denying his injuries will effect his play. Not only is he coming off shoulder cuff surgery but also hip surgery due to a torn labrum. The same injury plagued Percy Harvin and he was not the same WR after surgery. RB Doug Martin also went through the process and it took a season + to start seeing the pre surgery player. I don't remember anymore players off the top of my head or know of any success stories that stated a player was back to being the same player early post surgery. If the Jets do wait to see Decker in camp and decide to keep him .. we could still see his snaps limited due to potential output, but would still provide the Vet presence. Like I said, I can definitely see the Jets parting ways with Decker this summer. Maccagnan really wants to see his young players snatch roles this season and seems content to go through the growing pains. Maccagnan drafted those two WR's as part of a plan .. I don't care what he try's to get past with his BPA, Value Not Need BS.
I forgot about Peake, I think he will be one of the WR's fighting for his job this summer. He better come ready to compete!
Cannon and Marks are in the same boat .. they both posses physical talent but come from programs that bloat offensive statistics. They need to prove it wasn't a fluke just like the QB's from the same programs also have to do.
Dimarisco played at WP with my son. Loved watching the kid play. Chrebet type kid. Great hands. Big motor. He'll give it 200%, but I think he's just too small and probably not fast enough for this level.
Peake or patton? Do we carry 7? I dont think decker is a cut. They would have done it already if he was
I think your right. Though I'm still not ruling it out as they would be foolish to not see where his physical progress stands come camp before making such as decision. If Decker is healthy enough to physically contribute even at 85%, he's a keeper. If he's not, and not the same player, they could still keep him and distribute some of his snaps but, is just having his Vet presence worth his price tag?
Are you sure about the $40K? I read some reports from San Fran that there was no off set language in the contract. Either way, the bonus is only due if he makes the opening day roster and 40k is really nothing if he actually makes the team. Reports are he was cut by the 49s for his attitude. Was lazy and they felt he thinks he can just get by on physcial ability. Unless he has taken getting cut as a wake up call, and changes his attitude, I doubt he makes the roster.
Roster bonus, as in he gets paid the $40K if he is on the roster as of that certain date. Otherwise nothing due.
How much of it came out of the budget for UDFA signings though, which is what I was talking about. Obviously whether it's 5k or 45k that is nothing in terms of NFL signing bonuses but from what I thought is he was one of their priority UDFA signings and they don't usually get cut without good reason after a 3 day rookie minicamp.
None of it comes out of the UDFA budget. That's allocated for priority UDFA signing bonuses. The $5k signing bonus is San Fran's loss. The $40K is a roster bonus. That would count against the cap for the Jets 2017 league year if he is on the active roster come week one of the regular season.
imho Peake over Patton. Younger, bigger, with higher upside (provided he can stay on the field which was the only concern of his at Clemson). . As for carrying 6 or 7 WRs I think the TE situation determines that and right now the Jets need all the TE help they can get esp. with Sefarian-Jenkins's 2 game suspension. The guess here is they play it close to the vest and dress the conventional 6 WRs (to include Decker and Peake) and 3 TEs: . Jordan Leggett the rookie, Eric Tomlinson the blocking Kellen Davis replacement and Safarian-Jenkins (with Brandon Bowman dressing the first 2 games during Saf-Jenks suspension).
Jalin Marshall's only hope is practice squad. He isn't making anyone's active roster. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Agreed especially with his suspension. I have a feeling we are going to have 2-3 WRs on our practice squad.
