This is the first step to the multi-step program... Our FO have finally admitted they have a problem. That right there is the biggest travesty of this entire mess. JD should have been on the phone the next morning after Aaron went down. It could have saved our season. Even now approaching week 4, it's too little, too late. Siemian won't see the field for another 2 weeks. We will be dead and buried by the time anybody other than Zach Wilson takes the field. (If we aren't already)
Trevor Simien??? They really don't want to win... that's all one can assume based on this signing. Its getting closer and closer to "Joe Must Go" time... this is dereliction of duty on his part. This move does not make the team better or Challenge ZW. They still don't have a QB on the roster here that can compete with most teams backups.
Wentz has a terrible reputation for being a selfish team mate, not being accountable for his play and getting into fights with coaches. The tensions on this Jets team right now are so fraught that Wentz could be the match to blow the whole thing sky high. Siemien is an even keeled dude who can make all the throws. Hopefully he starts sooner than later.
Agreed--I think Saleh and Douglas will be married to Zach all season barring injury. Douglas won't admit his error in 2021, which is one of the worst in jets history.
For sure they signed another scrub as a backup to protect Zach the Hack's ego and not make him look as putrid as he actually is, as if that is even possible at this point. Obviously, more smoke and mirror shenanigans from the great pretenders at Florham Park. Hope the guys on the DEF can stomach yet another wasted season.
Maybe they didn't want the volatility of Wentz, who knows. We aren't in the FO and will never know the story behind it. Maybe Siemian would rather wait for a legit backup job than sit on someone elses PS. We don't know. The only one who may be better than Boyle is Zach. I'm not really sure who you all thought we would sign. Siemian has shown he can at least play in the NFL. He is Tom brady when compared to the dogshit we have now. Signing someone off of another teams PS just to throw a lottery ticket would be insanity. You may as well just play Zach at that point.
IMO it is not that they don't want to win...it is that they don't want to admit that drafting Zach was stupid. Rather than be like the 49ers and move on from a terrible pick (Lance), Douglas and Saleh keep fantasying that they were right in drafting Zach, and everyone who demands that Zach be benched/released/traded (HA, who'd want him?) is wrong.
Probably but it would’ve made a lot more sense to have whoever ready to go for the Chiefs this week. It’s not like they have some juggernaut defense and they blitz themselves into a lot of open receivers. Not to mention we play this game at home and the crowd would probably be a factor like it was against the Bills if we weren’t sending dopey out there. Denver has gotten thrashed a couple weeks in a row but with altitude, crowd noise and a pissed off roster and Sean Payton, that’s not an easy road trip.
What really would've made a lot more sense would have been to sign Wentz the day after Rodgers got hurt. If they still wanted to start Zach against the Cowboys, the fine, but they could have gotten Wentz acclimated to the offense and had him ready to start against the Pats after Zach had his three interception meltdown. And that wouldn't have "shaken Zach's confidence"; if Zach had any confidence to begin with, then he wouldn't have been worried about Wentz joining the team. It would have also made sense to upgrade the offensive line during the offseason; had they done that, maybe we'd be 2-1 or even 3-0 with Rodgers. But Douglas is a bad GM, Saleh is a mid coach, and bad GMs paired with mid coaches do nonsensical things. So I expect Zach to start against the Chiefs. (Unless of course the players have a little chat with Saleh about what they'll say in the postgame presser if Zach has another bad game.)
it is not a massive upgrade. Wilson to Siemien takes the Jets from the worst starting QB in the league... to the worst starting QB in the league
I think Douglas is an awful GM, like Idzik/Maccagnan level bad. But if Rodgers is coming back next season, then I think we should give him and Saleh another year. With Rodgers coming off an Achilles tear, we're going to have a harder time getting a good GM candidate to want the job. Either there will be a miracle and we'll be contenders in 2024 with a healthy Rodgers, or we'll have a disappointing season, and then we'll clean house. Better to do it properly than end up with some shitty replacement who screws us over until the late 2020s.
It at least puts them in the top 32. Zach isn't even in the top 64. He is the 2nd worst QB in the last decade. So yes, it is a massive upgrade.
No reason to bring a quarterback who hasn’t been relevant in 6 years unless you don’t want any competition for Zach, your having garbage competing with bigger garbage.
