I'm saying I'm getting tired of the Jets finally drafting good players with their high first round picks then turning around and trading them away because of system/internal issues..... I'm saying I'm tired of former first round picks - and decent players mind you - being traded away because they don't " fit the system " blah blah blah.....Farrior, Vilma, Moss, Abraham......all first round picks traded away and flourished elsewhere. At some point you need to set a foundation and continue onward....trading away good players for draft picks is like spinning your tries in the mud.
I would not. Williams is a leader and class act, Richardson is a child. Williams has a high ceiling in this new defense. I'm not sure that Richardson is even a good fit, and he's still one violation away from a year suspension. We don't need locker room cancer. Keep him away.
say what you want about Richardson OFF the field, during football games on Sundays he always busted his ass. Williams takes plays off and never pursues from the back side. He is lazy
Richardson is a JAG at this stage. Despite Williams being fat and lazy, he still had more QB hits and sacks as well as pressures. Sheldon didn't do anything in Minnesota.
Richardson's issues are not just off field. How many times has he committed bad personal foul penalties on critical 3rd downs? He's also been ejected for fighting a couple times as well, plus has a bunch of suspensions. Sure he's got a high motor and is an amazing physical specimen, but he's immature, bad for the locker room, and has low football IQ. I don't think Williams is lazy, just that he was being used poorly by Bowles/Rodgers.
To be fair to Abraham, I believe we traded him because we didn't want to pay him. I'd say that was a trade that worked out for both sides as we got Mangold. The Moss/Coles trades were mind boggling and I don't understand. Farrior/Vilma, I agree 100%
In that scenario though- Williams cost the Jets $14 million and they don't get the compensation. Richardson is a replacement level player for Williams. Not as good but high motor, signifcantly LESS expensive and .... you get a 2nd round pick.
Leonard Williams’ 17 career sacks in 64 career games don’t jump off the page, but people in the know realize that he has consistently disrupted quarterbacks through the years. People in the know? Great players change games. Klecko. Gastineau. Abraham. This fat fuck needs to play to his draft position. Do you think 6th rounder Joe Klecko cared what scheme he was in? Fuck no...when the ball was snapped he tore-ass after the other team's qb like a wild animal. Didn't matter what slot he was coming in from. Didn't matter how hurt he was. Didn't matter what the score was. He worked it till the whistle blew. He never took a play off. I guess I'm old & disgruntled. I miss our vaunted Sack Exchange.
While I agree entirely with this philosophy, I don't think Leo should be traded or cut...yet. Let's see what he can do in the right system and with the right coaching first. Judging anyone's production under Bowles is impossible.
Can't do what? Klecko never played dirty. He was one of the most respected players of his era. Even Conrad Dobler liked him.
I never said Klecko played dirty ... just saying slowly they are taking the physicality out of the game.
That goes for both sides of the line. There is nothing Klecko did to get to the quarterback would be illegal today. Now...once he got there is a different story.
Once he got there is exactly the point I was making. You can't hit QBs like you could back in the day. You also can't beat the shit out of lineman like they used to as well.
