The whole thread point is stupid. You can make an argument either way whether trading him is the better option or not. But because the front office has decided not to trade him doesnt make then retarded ore useless or any of that.
I can’t see why we would trade Leo away. I think that he will be a true penetrating threat in this new 4-3 defense at the 3 technique position (assuming we add some EDGE players). I smell a breakout for Leo this upcoming season. It won’t be double digit sacks, but I see him earning his paycheck.
You want to keep him around , fine ,but there's no way I'm signing him to a new deal... let him play out the year & we'll take it from there.
So is paying him $14.2 million in 2019. He's a actor. He's playing the role of Jets franchise defender, that smile, that hair. All about image. Apparently the Jets are more interested in that than actual production. The Patriots would've dumped this guy if he produced for them the way he has here at his salary. Watch them give Adams a hard time when the time comes to pay him.
Even if he plays well in 2019 it's classic contract year warrior stuff. Once he gets paid he'll disappear again. He should be traded or cut.
We all wanted Leo to become a dominant player, but just because he isn't that now/yet doesn't mean he isn't a good player. Leo is not a player you cut.
i cant believe so many of you are opposed to trading leo he's a good (no where close to great) player that, because of his draft slot, is going to be paid like an elite player. he is also an UFA in 2020 i would take a third rounder for him
I doubt Mac would trade him. He was his first 1st Round pick. He hasn't been terrible. Mac will probably extend him. Hard to admit most of your picks are wrong. The only possible way is if Gregg Williams says this guy is too soft for my defense. I don't want him. I want ________ and here is how we do it. I think the most likely thing is a 5 year extension that is truly a 2-year deal or something like that.
What DL other than Henry Anderson in a part time role during his contract year actually played well under Bowles/Rodgers? Hard to deny the talent thats been in the building. His old DL coach said himself that Leo didnt fit the scheme..bc the scheme is built for conference USA ball. If Williams has a great contract year..fantastic.Franchise tag him for as long as we can then make a decision to re-up or cut bait in 2-3 years. That said if we’re assured to be adequately replacing him & still adding draft picks im not opposed to trading him in the least.
It's lose/lose for the Jets organization. Leonard Williams bounces back in 2019 because its a contract year (surprise, surprise) and then they are forced with the decision of paying him without knowing if he's really worth it or he just plays for the contract. He doesn't have a good year and you just wasted $14 million and decent trade bait
Can you imagine trading Leo and then drafting his DT replacement at 3 with Quinnen Williams? I would LMFACANDBO whilst rolling on the floor.
Follow it up with another d lineman with the pick we got for leo and this place would be a desert. I would still be hear, laughing till I puked
Exactly. The Jets are not going to get a first for him at this point. You get a 2nd AT BEST and there is no guarantee the player you draft with that pick is any better. It's the devil you know vs the devil you don't know. Draft picks are nice, but when you already have a solid guy at the position, you don't just throw him away for potential.
