I was kind of irritated when my new job made it basically impossible to watch football for the rest of the season, but I can't think of a better year for that to happen to me. I'd still be watching if I was free but It makes it a lot more easy to stomach missing the games when I know I'd be watching the Jets get spanked week in week out. I do wish I could watch this one though because I think we have a chance at winning.
For me it's not really about the first round pick, you'll get a good player as long as you don't reach as long as you're in the top 15 of the first round, though I do like to be higher in the first round for 2 reasons. 1) You have a choice of who you want to take rather than just picking from the leftovers (you're in more control of who you select) and not have to think about trading up if there is someone you REALLY want (which is depending on the cost is often a mistake). 2) It gives you value if there is someone lower down that another team covets to possibly leverage more picks out of the draft. But the real reason I prefer a higher pick is the better choice options in the 2nd through 7th rounds. Picking in the top 5 of any given round vastly increases your chances of grabbing a player who you had rated higher than the current round than if you are drafting 10-15. When you're a team as dearth on talent as the Jets are and lacking any depth then having a richer pool of talent to choose from is a boon. Of course you still have to have a FO that evaluates talent properly. But having more choices and options is always a good thing.
The Vikings and Titans suck. The Jets SHOULD come out of next week's game 4-10. Keyword is should. They probably won't. If not though, Rex should not finish out the season. Fire him with 3 or 2 weeks left. This stuff is unacceptable.
problem is the jets this year suck as well...you don't wind up at 2-10 by being a good team (unless there were substantial key injuries). That said I do expect the Jets to win at least 1 of the remaining games, even if it's just by happenstance. I mean the Raiders beat the Chiefs so anything can happen (not because the Chiefs are a great team but because the Raiders are truly god awful, a lot of talent but no focus.)
Yeah, I think that is fair. Actually a pretty good post but I'm of the mentality that a good GM works with what he is dealt. I have no faith in Idzik at this point so I guess it really doesn't matter where we draft.
Or for this franchise in 1991, imagine picking 33 vs 34? The Falcons at 33 took Brett Favre and the Jets got stuck with Browning Nagle....lol
Oh wow, ouch.... That had totally slipped my mind. Thanks for bringing up that painful memory! Lol In all seriousness, that's a great example. My favorite, however, relates to hockey. Back in the '80s when the Penguins essentially tanked their season to get Mario Lemieux. My beloved Devils picked one spot after and got Kirk Muller. Muller was a fine player and a successful one by any definition, but compared to Lemieux he was a HUGE drop off. So while I don't advocate tanking usually, at the point of the season we are at now, I would rather lose the games to maximize draft flexibility. It isn't that we can't find a perfectly good player a few spots further down, but what is the point of risking missing the player you may really want just to win a couple pointless games. Man, now I'm gonna brood over that Farve stuff until I forget about it again. luckily I have early onset dementia, so I tend to forget things quickly..... what was I talking about again?
Regardless of what Rex believes you have to pass it sometimes. If we can keep them under 20 we still lose.
You wrote that as if the Jets do not blow. To me,,Vikings 23, Jets 3 is a reasonable prediction. The Jets are not going to like playing there if it is like last Sunday. The Vikings are making a mistake going indoors in 2016.
Yeah I get that but for the next 10 years he'll have 9 games in domes and only 2 scheduled games in possibly extreme weather, they'll be practicing and living in the cold and snow so while it is an advantage, I think for Teddy's benefit, on balance being indoors will be a plus for that team. One would think they'll surround him with offensive skill players and not ground and pound so being indoors on a fast track makes so much sense. _
I agree with your points that the run heavy offense on Monday was classic Rex taken to an amazingly extreme level (not being a loose cannon).
The Vikings gave the Packers a real hard time about 2 weeks ago when the Packers were actually settled down and good. Vikings win 21-13
So true though. The Bucs and Titans are playing for keeps. It will take a total team effort to outsuck those 2 teams. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do not win any more games- there is no benefit - none- zero It's only a detriment if you plan on not living longer than the end of the season
