I once had this mentality, it was the end of the 2005 season and I wanted us to lose our last game so we could draft Reggie Bush who in my opinion coming out of college was a once in a lifetime player. I thought he would change our franchise forever. Well we won our last game of the season and ended up with the 4th pick. So we missed out on Reggie Bush, yeah poor us. We only ended up with D'Brickashaw who has been a cornerstone of our franchise while Reggie hasn't even made 1 pro bowl. Guess it's a good thing we won that last game because Bush would have set the franchise back as we'd never have had a dominant LT You know what's funny? 5 of the top 6 players drafted that year made a pro bowl, the one who didn't? The guy I wanted us to lose so we could draft.
I didn't want to watch them lose 10 times already this year, don't care if it's 11 or 14 at this point. There's no great incentive this year in being top 3 of the draft, my only hope is we are bad enough to finally make the changes that might turn this team into something other than shit. If it takes a 2-14 season for that to happen, then so be it. Rex has proven himself not to be a HC, he can't run an offense, he hasn't developed anyone in his time here on defense. Idzik is still on the clock, he hasn't show much yet either, but he gets more time. If he wants me to have any interest in the rest of this year, he should start the fix now and fire Rex.
I doubt he has that power at the moment and I really doubt he'd use it if he did. There's no point in firing Rex right now. It adds nothing to the Jets chances this season and it does nothing for their chances moving forward and it would inevitably be spun as an attempt to shift blame, a spin designed to savage John Idzik, Woody Johnson and the Jets. You just have to let things run their course at this point and see where we end up. Black Monday really is the day where we'll find out what's going on with the Jets. Until then we just kind of have to hope that Rex can rally his troops and keep things from spinning out of control in the interim.
I don't think so. Rex isn't delusional and he knows people are watching him at this point. His odds on getting another HC gig in the NFL depend on how he manages himself in defeat as well as on how he manages himself when things are going well. If he begins to look like he's trolling the Jets his odds drop through the floor. Who is going to hand their HC job to a loose cannon?
This is a misunderstanding of the concept of "tanking" for draft position. Every position you move closer to the no. 1 spot allows you greater control of your drafting future, especially if there is a drop off in talent at certain positions after a few keys players are selected. Also, keep in mind that for every draft that has dozens of examples of quality players being selected all over the spectrum there are also the examples of teams that would've killed to move up that one extra slot. After all, doesn't it seem silly to compare Manning to Leaf now? But instead of being able to choose which player was best the Bolts had to take whichever player was left by the Colts and that didn't work out very well. EDIT: fixed stupid auto correct "help"
Excited to watch Bridgewater play like an NFL QB. Haven't seen many rookie QB's with his poise in the pocket. Needs to work on his accuracy down the field, but kid looks legit, gives me a Matt Ryan feel with much more athleticism.
Rex has never been a loose cannon. A loud mouth yes but not a loose cannon. I don't think he's a loose cannon now. I think he ran the ball as much as he did because he thought that was the Jets only chance to win the game. Given the state of the offense this year he was probably right. Do you think he was trolling the Jets when he had the Jets run for 300+ yards against the Bills and lost in 2009? Or when he had them run for 300+ the next week against Oakland and won? Do you think he was trolling in 2010 when he had them run for 273 yards against the Bills and win? How about when he had them run for 252 yards and pass for just 99 against Indy in 2012 and they won? Against the Cardinals that year they ran for 177 yards and passed for just 112 in a 7-6 win. Against Jacksonville the next week it was 166 yards rushing and 104 passing in a 17-10 win. Last year we beat the Saints with 198 yards rushing and 140 passing. The win against Pittsburgh this year - 18 pass attempts and 36 rushes. When Rex doesn't have confidence in the passing game he runs it heavily. He's been doing that since 2009 and with multiple different QB's at this point. That's not trolling, that's cutting your losses against teams with bad run defenses and Rex wins some games doing that. He'd have beaten Miami on Monday night if either Nick Folk hadn't been uncharacteristically inaccurate or Geno had made a good throw or two when he needed too.
You call this control? LOL. I am trying to figure out where exactly control was lost, but it was a while ago. Having said that, no point in firing anybody now.
We would win this game with Vick but since our GM calls the shots we'll lose with Geno. Guys, Geno can't even hit wide open targets, explain to me how we even keep this game close?
Weather in Minneapolis, MN for Sunday... From Accuweather.com: I get the feeling we won't be seeing much Air Geno on Sunday..
I still find it hard to believe that anyone could seriously think that Rex was "trolling the Jets" - at first I assumed they were just joking but it seems like some people actually believe he might have been - SMH
Absolute, must lose game, so are the rest of the games down the stretch. We need the highest draft position possible. While losing always breaks my heart, winning anymore games is totally counterproductive to our near and short term future. We must finally get a young QB in here to lead this team. If the new staff chooses to sit him behind a F/A for a year great, as long as he is here on the roster. If during that year it is deemed he is not what was advertised, then we again use our first pick the following year on the best available QB at our pick. We must continue to do this until we finally find the right kid. My hope is the Duck is the real deal and just needs pro seasoning to get up to speed.
