I really thought the days of Chewing off my nails was over when the JETS hired REX but the only difference is now we win more
Really? Notice there wasn't a single offensive penalty on the Steelers the whole game? OK, they called illegal formation once. Refs will almost never make that call on the last play of the game. See you in the playoffs. Frankly, I don't think this game really changes anything for the Steelers. Win or loss they still trail the Ravens. It was huge for us though. We needed to show we could win against a good team and solidify the wild-card spot.
I really loved the offensive game plan and play calling today If we can get a little better on our 3rd down defense we might really have a shot at the big game
Oh right. My point was that it didn't change the Steelers position if they lost. I just had the order backwards.
Man...been a while since I knew what 10 wins felt like. It's nice! Feels all warm and...what's the word...what the opposite of shame? Not-shame.
I thought it was better, definitely. Not great, but better. It finally looked like Schotty found a gameplan that took into account both what we do well and the Steelers' weaknesses. I like how they found some unorthodox ways to pick up short yardage instead of running straight up the middle. Using the bubble screens (except in the red zone that time) and bootleg passes seemed to take the place of straight ahead running plays, which had the affect of opening things up down the field and allowed the running game to have some success on the stretch plays, delays, and draws. That direct snap to LT was pure genius and the stretch draw on 3rd and 4 was a great call.
I would have to agree shotty found the playbook that he lost in pre season. must have been hiding under his bed. Great play calling today!!!
The formation I was glad to see gone today was "The Wildcat" IMO Brad Smith should never be on the field, other than special teams. He does that well...
Three or four. He's been ineffective for a large majority of the season. Glad he made the play today, it was huge.
Going forward, I'd rather post in these threads than deal with the shitbag posters that show up in the real game thread
Idea presumably is to force a quick pass to a short route before they have a chance to travel deep enough to pick up the first.
That didn't irk me as much as the prevent D, at least we won though. Very good game by the Jets...tough and physical win. I like Lowry at safety, he seemed much better in coverage than Smith.
You guys completely called off the dogs on the final drive...it gave Ben all day long to make the plays. I was shocked to see that to be honest.
I wanted to make my own thread for this, but I don't have enough posts, so this looks like the best place to put this. Getting the obvious out of the way first, that was a very good win. Tough team, on the road, winning this game definitely provides a much needed confidence boost to the team (and their fans). I imagine that the NY media would have been particularly insufferable had they lost this game, and now that’s a circus they don’t have to deal with. But let’s get to the meat and potatoes of what happened. Offensively they certainly did some impressive things. LT and Greene didn’t produce a ton of yards, but they gave this offense much needed balance and provided good situational running. It’s not the kind of day that excites fantasy owners, but facing a good defense like that, their contributions were critical to the win. But the guy who really impressed me today was Sanchez. 19 of 29 with no picks, consistently making good decisions and quality throws, that’s exactly the kind of QB play the Jets need to get if they plan on doing anything in the playoffs. Also, need to give credit to the offensive line and the coaching staff, they did a great job neutralizing Woodley and Harrison. How often did you hear their names get called? Last nice thing I’ll say, I know a lot of people on this board don’t want to hear it, but the OC had himself a pretty good day today too. Kept Sanchez clean, good balance and diversity in the play calls, and in big moments came up with some excellent calls. However, there is one nasty little fact that should be of concern to Jets fans. Things went about as well as you could realistically hope for, and they still only produced 13 points. That tells me, that despite the win, they still aren’t playing at a championship caliber level. Defensively, there was a lot to be desired. While they deserve kudos for only giving up 17 points, and they made enough plays to win the game, there are some troubling signs. Over 400 yards allowed, they were atrocious on third down (11-17) and forced zero turnovers. When they get to the playoffs they won’t face on offensive line worst then Pittsburgh’s, and they still couldn’t put any kind of consistent pressure on Rothlesberger. This is a real problem, because it’s pretty clear now that they don’t have a good enough secondary. Sure Revis is great, and Cromartie is pretty good (although he is a liability against some WRs) but after that there really is no quality football players. But while this team has problems, I still think they showed a lot today. They showed some real mental toughness, and a lot of credit should go to the coaching staff. I think a lesser coach then Ryan could have lost his team today. Coming off of two tough losses, it’s a sign of a good team to be able to play at a high level, in a close game, against a tough opponent, and on the road. This team will not flame out in spectacular fashion, and they will not self destruct. They may not be great, but when they get to the playoffs I doubt they will beat themselves. One last point, I wouldn’t want to go through this whole post without giving Weatherford some props. Late in the game, two punts pinning them back at the 2 and the 8. That’s winning football right there.
