Gotta stop body catching. It’s the new thing in today’s NFL, lots of receivers let the ball come to them instead of attacking it with their hands. His drops are coming from him trying to body catch.
I noticed this as well. Catch with your hands not your shoulder pads. Try to catch a bullet over the middle with your shoulder pads you get a ball that bounces 100 ft in the air.
You also lose sight of the ball when you body catch. You’re essentially hoping it bounces off your shoulder pads to wherever your arms are.
Mims played 60% of the snaps with over 400 yards passing in the game. He had 5 targets, 2 drops (at least) and 1 catch for 20 yards. He also fell down on a pass deep over the middle but I wasn't sure if he dove/jumped or fell. Are you Mims guys done defending him yet or no?
This year it does, but it certainly didn't last year. I think he's pressing and his confidence has been shaken due to the way they've handled him. If LaFleur is smart, he will have the QB target Mims vs. Buffalo and give him some easy opportunities early to build his confidence back.
Its not that unusual for a young receiver to go through a drops phase. Mims cant afford it because he is in a fish bowl right now but its a little soon to declare bust.
I would add that is particularly the case with the way they have jerked him around this year. He's probably pressing, trying too hard, or lost confidence. He is a much better player than he has shown the last couple of weeks. Mims isn't the problem. It's the negative know-it-alls here that are too ready to deem players busts.
Davis the dropsy guy? I would rather see Mims play than watch Davis drop passes when his QB needed him most. But at this point, I hope Mims goes to another team as he has no allies on the Jets coaching staff. Better for him professionally and personally to move on. If Saleh and his staff are that rigid in their logic I see a short coaching time for him with the Jets. The way his defense was torched by Wentz (or is it Carson Wince) with zero adjustments by the defense coach. Just horrible the effort by the defense.
Now it's his confidence and we have to throw the ball to him early and often to cater to fixing his confidence. The Mims defense is getting into the guys feelings now..
you realize mims dropped 3 balls yesterday out of 5 thrown to him. 1 catch and 1 was not complete but not considered a drop. mims also dropped a would be TD in the bengals game that cost us 4 points.
Davis has sucked this year too. That doesn’t make Mims look better. As much as Davis has sucked he’s still produced some.
What about that awesome catch Mims had against New England where they just left him alone probably because they didn't know who he was and he looked so surprised that he was open that he kind of stuttered around after the catch until they shoved him out of bounds. Masterful.
I have no issues with him playing more, but i'm saying it's pretty valid why he hasn't played not that the coaching staff has it out for him like some were saying here. Davis has dropped a bunch but he's also a better player then mims and has a lower drop % sine he gets more targets. crowder, berrios, moore, and surprisingly smith have been out most reliable WRs
I was expecting much better production from our big time free agent signing. One of Zach's first game interceptions can be traced right to Davis dropping a pass. I'm just saying when Mims is in there he is making big plays. Just look at what Moore is doing now with more playing time. The Jets season is over already let these kids play. Also on less targets than anyone including Tyler Kroft Mims has an 18.4 average. More than anyone on the Jets
