I would rather drop Barrett altogether if we signed Dyson. Granted, he is a bit overrated, but I think he is an upgrade from Barrett.
Starting Line-up QB- (1)Jon Kitna, (2)Chad Pennington, (3)Brooks Bollinger RB- (1)Curtis Martin, (2)Cedric Houston, (3)Derrick Blaylock FB- (1)B.J. well he could have been bullshitting to us the entire time... but from what I know this guy is right on the money. good job. John Kitna needs to be a Jet... he's the only QB available that is NFL starting material (McCown could start too...) and would be perfect for a 2 year deal. This year he can push Penny and if Penny falls flat on his face then Kitna will be here in 07 to mentor Brady Quinn or Stefan Lefors.
I'd promote Blaylock to starter, and drop CMart to the third string spot. Keep Houston in the backup slot, and let him carry 5-10 times a game. See if he has anything to offer us long-term. I'm not sure about JMac. If he doesn't show he is willing to play at the level he is being paid, I would shove him in the slot. Promote Cotch and see if the kid can produce. I would resign Baker, and he would be my starting TE. Everything else makes sense. The only thing is the QB position. I really hope Chad can make a full comeback this time. I'm still not convinced about grabbing a LT with the #4 pick, but if the Tangini feels it is best for the team, I am willing to wait and see with it.
It may not be 100% accurate... but its a general idea. I've seen other sites with similar numbers. I can see how we are this far under though.. we've cut 10 players and restuctured a bunch of contracts too...
I don't buy the cap hit even if he is traded part. A franchise tagged player, who is traded, has to sign the tender before he is traded, so this would affect every team that ever did this. And yes, that would mean the Jets this year. Meaning we would get no cap relief from trading Abe. I hope the kid got a 'F'
So do I.... so do i more specifically i want him to start the next two years, mentoring Brady Quinn next year then handing over the reigns in '08
I was under the impression that an aquiring team negotiates the contract.... then, the original team signs that player to the contract, and then makes the trade official. Any signing bonuses are scheduled so that they don't kick in until the trade is finalized and approved by the NFL offices. The player that was to get traded never signed the franchise tag tender..... he signed a new contract, and then got traded.
