They plan on using Kendall at Center. Thats why the need to find an OG. I agree that Thomas is most likely a better option than signing a pricey FA DE. But our needs also depend on what kind of defense we run. If the CS wants to switch to a 3-4 we will need a LB as well as a NT. But for now we can say that our main needs are RT, G, a veteran QB and NT. Along with secondary needs at CB and DE.
Here aremy off the top of the head guesses as to how we got down this low: Martin; 4mil Pennington: 9 mil Ellis: 4 mil Coles: 5 mil Fabini: 3.5mil Kendall: 2 mil Mawae: 1.5mil Moore: almost 1 mil Sowell: 3.5 mil? We were what, 28 mil over the cap? Above is about 33-34. Once Abraham goes, it's another 8 mil. They cut over 40 mil off the cap, no matter how you look at it.
Sign McGinest for DE/LB WR- Laverneous Coles, Justin McCariens, Jerricho Cotchery TE- Vernon Davis LT- D'Brickashaw Fergerson LG- Adrian Jones _C- Nick Mangold RG- Pete Kendall RT- ?????? QB- Jon Kitna, Chad Pennington, Brooks Bollinger RB- Curtis Martin, Cedric Houstin, Calhoun
I thought it was 9..... his cap hit was to be 12 mil, he has 3 mil garanteed, and the 9 mil in incentives are of the not likely to be earned variety. In any case, I didn't include Legree, Reed, and several other notable cuts.
He has 3M in salary this year, plus 3M from his 2004 signing bonus will hit the cap. The incentives are 6M, but will only hit the cap if he reaches them. (That would awful in the middle of the season)
that'd be nice, but he'll be expensive & i think he's going to the Eagles... drafting Mangold would be much cheaper
Mangold would be a great replacement for Mawae. But our second rounder is too late. Maybe we could trade up from 35 or maybe trade down with Detroit's 9 if we get it. Bentley would be a great pickup, but I hear he wants to go to Philly. But you can always hope. Anyway, I'd like to see what the management does about the center situation.
No, we saved 9. He was scheduled to be 15M on the 2006 cap, now he's 6 + 6 in incentives if he hits them
My question is, how much did other teams shave off their numbers? That is key. Otherwise we are at the same point we were back in the season when people were acting like we were the only team trying to get a good draft spot. (No, I don't mean purposely losing, just that people acted like no other team was interested in who was coming out in the draft.) I have to believe there are other teams paring down their rosters too, in anticipation of a HUGE FA market.
The cap works in weird ways like that, the cap charge may be different than what the player is actually getting
Likely to be earned incentive which I heard was about him appearing in 1 or more special teams plays (yes, believe it or not). Daily News reported a 3M incentive but never mentioned what it was PFT reported it and mentioned what they thought it was. Other papers reported the 15M hit as well
