Were you finding things wrong with Peterson last year too?

These are good points, but there is no guarantee that Leon will return kicks this year, since Miller is back.

Maybe because there is a lot more "bust" potential with Gholston than with McFadden.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that Gholston has more bust potential than DMC?

  5. Well b/c DMAC was the team's best player, inconsistencies at QB, and the fact that they HAD another nfl calibur RB on the roster...they moved DMAC to QB in certain situations..there were times(to keep defenses honest) he handed off to Jones. Arkansas would be stupid not to use them both.

Want another example? Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams at Auburn. Both of them have been feature backs in the NFL..very good one's in fact..yet they shared carries in college. Did that scare teams away? How is this any different?

It's amazing to me how many people are already writing off McFadden as a bust. And it's even more amazing how many are really content with the current set of skill position players on the roster. Jets fans are just flat out scared of using high picks on skill position players. Meanwhile we expect miracles out of players such as Leon, Brad Smith and Chansi Stuckey, then bitch and moan about how mediocre our offense is. It's not just the O-line, we need serious skill talent on this team. Our offense for the most part has always been stagnant, even when the line is good. Doesn't have to be McFadden, but at some point it needs to become more of a priority than gambling in the late rounds and getting by with slightly above average talent.

That is the general consensus on the board. They are content with being mediocre.

I agree that picking up another Front 7 player to bolster the pass rush is the way to go. But according to most of the mock drafts out there, Gholston might not even make it to the 6th spot. Therein lies the quandry.

Picking up the next best pass rushers like Harvey, Groves and Avril are total reaches at the 6th spot.

Jones and Washington, I believe, will do more than an adequate job in light of an improved OL. No need for DMC.

Jones is a good back. Not quite in the Adrian Peterson Category that this kid is billed to be in. Jones is Mediocre this kid is supposed to be special.

  11. mmm no...but isnt the theme of this thread about how Leon is the explosive player on O and how he could turn out to be a feature back for us long term?

Maybe all the videos floating out there showing Gholston over-powering, running-around and flat-out destroying offensive linemen en route to the QB is all done with smoke and mirrors, right?

I think only a few people with agree with your statement while the rest of us remain quietly grinning a sarcastic grin. :)

I dont know that you can describe Thomas Jones and Leon Washington as mediocre. Yes we can improve the running back position .Do we have to that that with the 6th overall pick with all the other solid running backs in this draft? Overall I think the defense on this team is in more need of an upgrade with the # 6 pick. I am not saying that we should not seek to improve the RB position. Both Gholston and DMC will be good if not great players. As far as the relative positions, I feel the Jets defense will be much improved with the addition of another pass rusher like Gholston.

Adrian Peterson and Darren McFadden are comparable only in reference to draft position. It's amazing that anyone would even mention them in the same sentence, much less category. They are completely different kinds of backs.

If we feature TJ behind a DOMINANT OL this year, then he will show what he's made of, and 1,119 yards will turn into 1700-plus.

I don't think we've seen anything like what TJ can really do if given half of a chance by good blocking.

Well, I didn't but it seems the scouts have. They say he disappears in every second or third game he plays. They also say he probably isn't worth a top 7 pick. There were links to those stories in other threads earlier this week.

They also say he may be the best pass runner in this class and a workout fanatic. So, it seems they don't know what to expect. I think that gives him more bust potential but who knows?

Ah yes, the videotapes. Look at them for an entire season and not 10 or 12 selected plays.

Gholston is for No. 6, if he's there. If not, then the best CB available. I can't believe that the NYJs will take a big first found OL... Clady? Otah? Williams?

  19. It's really sad how scared jet fans are of taking a skill player early...even if he is the best player available. Pitiful actually.

Behind a dominant O-line, Jones will equal his best year in Chicago at best. And our line next year will not be as good as the lines he had in Chicago. 1,700 is a pipe dream.
