The only thing we know is that according to Revis, "money wasn't fully guaranteed". Whatever that means. It doesn't mean we offered him 20 mil guaranteed either though. Maybe we offered Revis 60 mils in guarantees divided into two spots as if a new contract kicks in 4 years from now that offers $30 more mils guaranteed if he's healthy while offering $30 mil right away? Just giving an example but we dont' know for sure how much was guaranteed and how much wasn't "fully guaranteed".
injury is to strong....maybe get caught shop lifting sneakers (ala L Coles) then falling to the jets in a later round maybe?
do you honestly think shoplifting will drop Green from the top 5? barring an some insane lack of production this season, or an injury, I don't see any way he isnt selected in the top 10. And depending on the injury, he still might not escape the top 10. The guy is that freakishly good.
on rex/revis: we all say revis makes the wheels go round but that's only b/c that's what rex inherited. rex is a master of recognizing what he has and playing to his team's strenghts and away from his teams weaknesses. if rex inherited a team with cromartie and wilson play good ball and an unstoppable d-lineman, i have a feeling rex could win a few games. just a hunch. on revis: revis says he learned from leon how important it is to play for garuanteed money. revis should also learn from leon how important it is not to turn down a damn good contract offer. that's how you end up playing in seattle on a broken leg. on revis' contract: tanny will never offer revis the money he is 'crying' for. if revis turns down our final block buster offer then tanny will trade reivs for 2 first round draft pics. i'm leaning towards revis taking the jets final offer.
Holy CRAP hmy: No need to be sarcastic or whatever BS your trying to pull, I wasn't the one saying he was left handed in the first place
And why the other three won't be taken care of until the future CBA situation becomes clearer and these limits are or are not removed.
Drafting a WR next April does not give the Jets any on the field help for years. First, about 50% of receivers drafted in the first round bust. Second, with a very limited number of exceptions, those that don't bust do not contribute at a significant level until their third year in the NFL. So, with a team that is built to win now, you want to build the WR position around a person who is still in college this September and has a 50% chance of being a major contributor in the 2013 season?????? Add in that the Jets will likely draft near the bottom of the first round. I'd keep one of Holmes/Edwards instead of placing the Jets WR eggs in the draft crap shoot.
Yeah, the fact he wasn't hapered by the 30% rule plus the fact it was the easiest contract to renegotiate made things happen. Harris will surely not be done this season as he has a really low salary number in 2009... Mangold's is pretty low too while in REvis case it's pretty big but he wants a HUGE deal... we'll see...
1) 50% of the WRs taken in the first round bust because of terrible talent evaluation by crappy teams like the Lions and the Raiders. I have faith in our scouting department. 2) Many players are drafted at WR not because of what they bring to the table right now but only because of potential. DeMaryus Thomas for example is a project pick because it's impossible to know how he'll fare in a pro-style offense. 3) Contribution depends on the talent level avalable. While I agree it takes a while before becoming a good WR I think Crabtree proved last year it's still possible to contribute as a rookie even jumping TC. I agree that next year will be loaded and all those guys will contribute.
Congrats to D'Brick. I'd love to see everyone else signed before Revis. Let him sweat it out while the rest of his teammates get paid. What he has been doing is selfish and embarrassing to him, his coach, and the franchise.
Don't worry, I wasn't the one who said it either. I was just making fun of the poster who said D'brick does not cover Marks blind side. Woody does.
Not bad for a "bust." Remember just a few years back where most of the members of the board wanted to run him over with their cars. Granted, the guy was no bigger than a large TE when he first came into the league- happy to see that things went his way, and that he kept his trap shut during the entire process.
^that's the reason he was the first to get signed. Hopefully this will send a message to Revis. Shut your mouth, put the team first, and everything else will work itself out.
sidebar: While the Revis, Mangold, D'Brick & Harris contract news is discussed on sports talk radio, I've notice Mike Francessa now blowing smoke up Revis' arse to the point where he's saying that Revis ought to ask for the moon and that Revis deserves it. Call me a cynic but imho the WFAN Porkinator's is almost openly rooting for an impasse between the two sides...and he's trying to throw in his 2 cents in stirring the pot with his calculated, disingenuous over-the-top raving on behalf of Revis. Last year he was a lot more reserved in his praise of #24.
