I didn't realize you and other fans were better at evaluating offensive lineman than Joe Douglas. Who knew!
I liked the signing until I saw this. That's the kiss of death. Casserly doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
I would feel a whole lot better about this if he wasn’t one of the most renowned idiots in all of sports analysis.
Casserly isn't as bad as people make him out to be on these boards. If people were honest, they detest him because of Maccagnan, not because of his football credentials.
http://www.jetsconfidential.com/news/very-underrated-move-by-joe-douglas/ Good read. This could turn out to be a very shrewd move by Douglas.
Oh for fuck’s sake, is nobody allowed to express an opinion about anything because other people have already made the decision? There are a billion bad decisions made every day, often by people who usually make good decisions. It is perfectly reasonable to ask how a mediocre player is worth this much money.
I’m shaking my head over this. Do you need to have a job with an NFL team to express an opinion on a message board? Should everyone just stop posting on here? Aren’t you allowed to contend that the 57th-ranked offensive tackle in football, who gives up pressures at a higher rate than the mediocre players we already have, may be mediocre? If we are only allowed to express an opinion if we are experts, then I assume nobody will express an opinion again. And the thrust of my original comment was, this is why I hate free agency. I’m hoping he turns out to be a solid player, but he’s being paid like he already is one. I don’t hate the player, I hate the system.
Yep. True in its entirety. Casserly was one of the best personnel guys in football for 2+ decades. Check his resume with the Redskins. He's old and long in the tooth now and helped get one of his good friends a job. But that doesn't negate that he's a good football guy.
It just seems like you are dissatisfied that this is a lesser known name. You are basing it on a very limited body of work and I am willing to bet that 95% of the people on this board havent even seen this guy play a single snap. It's hard to rank someone that was barely in a normal rotation for the Seahawks. The games he did play in, Including the playoffs, he felt extremely confident that he put enough on tape to insist on his claim that he is worth being a starting LT in this league. He felt he proved just that. JD apparently felt the same. I'm reading and watching a lot on this kid that is extremely encouraging. I NEVER claimed you shouldn't have an opinion. I just don't think that you are any OL expert on the matter either. I certainly am not. I have been reading up on this kid and watching clips of this kid and I'm optimistic. I'm chosing to trust JD. I don't have much left to be optimistic about with this team. Admittedly.
