The injury is a concern, but he was a very good player in college, and the only time he was able to start every game (last year), he played very well. I'd be very willing to take a chance.
coming out of college mel kipper wrote this about him SIZE AND BALANCE: Marc Columbo Age: 23 Height: 6'8" Weight: 313 An overachiever. Also versatile: Can play left and right tackle, which will boost his draft stock. Needs to improve upper-body strength, but has excellent footwork and balance for his size. A lot like the Jets Jason Fabini.
Maybe in the past, Colombo was a concern, but for this past season, Colombo was dominating both in pass protection and run blocking. I believe there was some quote in saying that he had one of the best seasons Parcells has seen from a lineman, of course only allowing 4.5 sacks on the season. I also just read over at Cowboys boards as well as neutral boards that have said he was the best Cowboys offensive lineman and that they were pissed that he wasn't resigned. His problem according to the Bears fans were his injuries, and the fact that he's strong overrides the fact that his technique is suspect.
I don't know if going with a guy from Dallas, who had to switch to Tony Romo because Drew Bledsoe didnt have the mobility to escape pass rushers let in by their pourous offensive line is the answer.
Ok, you've convinced me that he has the potential to be great, but you guys (not saying you specifically, but there are many on here) shouldn't be treating him life the savior of our offensive line that all of a sudden fixes all problems on offense. He's a huge question mark, and a guy like Justin Blalock could still be useful to play RG and be a RT insurance policy for him.

I'm not saying Colombo solves all our problems... we still need to upgrade RG. But I think going from Clement (the definition of a JAG) to Colombo (a very good RT when he is healthy) is a big step in the right direction.
I'm sure Kiper meant Fabini in his prime. Back in the Parcells/Groh days, Fabini was one of the best RTs in the NFL. He wasn't nearly as good at LT.
Justin Blalock in the first would give us an offensive line to dominate for many years, with three first round picks and already one proven center who may already be top five at his position. I go back and watch Mangold and he reminds me of a bigger and stronger Kevin Mawae. The guy has two players collapse on his leg, and he sits out a play before returning. I saw some tape of him and keyed in. He's an incredible turn blocker. We just need to surround him with talent (sounds like skill positions, right?) No. We need to put Mangold with a guy like Blalock, and Colombo as well, and let them gell together for a couple years. I honestly see this as a move that might affect the Jets for years to come, because the line is improving and damn fast. I know it sounds dumb, but when I heard all the compliments Parcells had given him, Colombo being a huge surprised and a dominating tackle, I was shocked. Parcells is one of the best offensive line coaches in the business, and to compliment a guy who could've been on his way to being a journeyman is incredible. I can only imagine what Parcells had taught him about the position that will benefit him for years to come.
Put it to rest - the original post that the" Jets to sign Columbo is very misleading", a bit irresponsible giving the impression of a done deal rather than some opinion. The moderators delete threads around here for alot less.
My old roomate in college is a Pats fan and Colombo's COUSIN! I haven't talked to him in 3 years but I will give him some heat if Colombo comes to the Jets. I do worry about his knees though.

I heard Schein say that we will just about sign him.....I think I worded the title sort of pretty bad saying its a SURE thing but I'm happy Im not the only one to hear Schein say something like this. Thought I was going crazy.... As for Dallas ''trying'' to resign him, they picked up Terry Glenn's roster bonus and also signed Leonard Davis to insane money. DO THEY really have the money to give Columbo A fair deal? Doubt Dallas resigns him..............

stats on an offensive lineman are pretty useless, except sacks allowed. You need to know a bit about how they can block in different schemes, run or pass, finesse or power, zone or man, the list goes on...so its hard to tell how good they are by looking at numbers
