Way to be positive about the trade..... At least they tried to find a solution.... Sure it may not work but there's no need to be negative just for the sake of being negative....
Now I want you to remain "positive" after the first time Harvin either: punches out a teammate punches out a girlfriend refuses to go into a game blasts the organization in the media gets busted for doing something stupid all of the above
We had Holmes..... Holmes was an asshole.... I remember 2 AFC Championship games he helped us get too......,this is football for christ sake..... There not choir boys..... This is the wrong sport to worry about shit like that...... If he's got the talent who cares?
when has he ever doen anyting wrong off the field or blasted the organization in the media all we have heard is some teammate didn't likes him........Steve Smith beat the shit out of a teammate
I will give you that character doesn't count as much as it used to in this "win at any cost" society we live in however, Santonio became toxic because that's who he is. Reminds me of the old parable about the snake and the duck at the river. The duck didn't want to ride on the snake's back because he was afraid of being bitten. The snake convinced the duck otherwise and soon as they got to the other side of the river, the snake bit the duck. Why? Because he's a snake and that's what snakes do.. Moral of the story is a simple one. Don't expect Harvin to change because he's in the eastern timezone. He's still volatile. He still has anger issues. He's prone to violent outbursts against his own teammates. Now if you're so desperate for offense as to put up with this kind of behavior and accept the potential for blowup, what exactly does that say about YOU? Are the Jets REALLY that desperate?
The things I listed are the trending behaviors of NFL badboys as of 10/18/2014, I'm sure Harvin will find his way to at least one of them. DUI after a night on the town ala Braylon? Ya nevah kno.
Who are you gonna find in the 4th round of this upcoming draft that will be able to contribute to the Jets like Harvin can? This is a minimal risk trade that has a ton of upside.
Yeah, we already missed the boat on the bluechip Wr's because we needed a safety. Now due to our ineptitude on offense, we'll take anybody because our GM didn't address the most pressing need this team had on draft day but instead, deferred to his HC. We had 12 picks and I'd like to think we could have done better than just one contributor on offense. Lets not even bring the OLine into this conversation ok..
We had 12 picks. Idzik made 11 picks. Rex got Boyd. Idzik did not "defer to his HC" on this one; in fact, Idzik reportedly loved Pryor, in part, because he was at the game when this happened: Do you really think Idzik let Rex choose our picks this year? Plus, we DID address our most important needs. We got a safety in the first, a WR-esque tight end in the 2nd, a CB in the 3rd and three more WRs later on. The problem have, many haven't panned out yet. I don't really see how Idzik chose the wrong positions or deferred to Rex. If Idzik had deferred to Rex, I bet we would have taken a CB in the first round (or signed Revis).
I was on the fence about this move but after hearing we're giving up at most a 4th instead of a 2nd I'm fully on board. Worst case scenario we burn some potential roll-over cap space and a 6th round pick and cut him with no penalty next year. Best case scenario we've picked up a potential game changer with at least a few years left in the tank (barring injury, which is his biggest issue) for a 4th round pick and have a receiving core that includes Kerley, Decker, Harvin, Amaro, Cumberland and still have Ivory and maybe CJ2K (I doubt he's back next year though) who can receive out of the backfield well. Furthermore Harvin could provide a huge boost to our return game (I don't think he does PR, mostly just KR but I could be wrong: anyone know?) which sucks at the moment. So, yeah, I get the negative sentiment, I generally fall on the negative spectrum when it comes to this team but this is a good move.
Which blue chipper should we have taken? Cooks has been crappy, Benjamin has "concussion issues". Oh wait, he has 1 concussion, same as Harvin. If we can judge Pryor as a bust, than surely Cooks is a bust, Lee is a bust, and Benjamin has a concussion problem.
There is a great paragraph in one of the articles in the sidebar, explaining one of the main reasons it went sour between Harvin and the Seahawks. Basically, Harvin is a different kind of player who you have to gameplan for as an offensive coordinator every single game because of his unique talents. He is part WR and part blazing speed running back. When Seattle was using him like that, with all those sweeps as in the Superbowl and in the Green Bay game this year, everyone was happy, and Harvin was really really good. But apparently Seattle OC Bevell did not like having to gameplan special stuff for him every week (extra work basically for the OC, and some prefer to keep it simple with vanilla type offense). So what you have is an offense in Seattle that is more run heavy than any other in the NFL with Lynch, and from whatever is left over after that, Harvin wasn't getting many touches. A bunch of his TDs were also called back because of penalties on his teammates. In the Dallas game, he got next to nothing for the first 3 quarters, and then got really pissed. Our situation is different, at least for this year. I think Marty loves gameplanning trick stuff and special plays, sometimes too much so. Now Harvin gives him an actual weapon to do that kind of stuff, unlike a washed up Vick or CJ. Also, while we run a lot with Ivory, I think part of that is because we didn't have a tremendous amount of weapons on offense, which is gonna change now. I think Harvin will be happier here due to a lot more plays being drawn up for him, and larger involvement in the offense. And if you are gonna take a guy with some problems, I would rather those problems happened because he wanted to play more, rather than because he was lazy, or exploded for no reason. Also the Seattle stuff is way overblown. Read the tweets of his teammates, lots of positive stuff there. Holmes didn't get that kind of a farewell when he left the Jets. I think Seattle got rid of him for 3 major reasons: 1) He was getting frustrated with his involvement in their offense as mentioned above, and with guys like Wilson and Lynch, the Seahawks might very well be better off with supporting type WRs rather than more elite types. 2) His contract is not really sustainable given their cap situation. They just gave Thomas and Sherman all time high contracts this last offseason, now they will have to pay Wilson mega-money soon, and got others coming up as well like Chancellor, KJ Wright, etc. They will have to get rid of people to make that work, that's why Tate and Giaconmini left in the offseason, and now Harvin. Doesn't mean they are bad players, just have to pick your poison, and obviously their Defense and QB are more valuable than a WR. I think ideally they wanted to keep him for this year at least, because they have a legit Superbowl window now and he can help with that, but with his growing discontent it started becoming a problem. They probably wanted a lot more in return a few weeks ago, which is why Idzik didn't go for it then, and he got a heck of a bargain deal. Harvin for a 6th rounder? Wow. 3) There are rumors he was clashing with Wilson, and a lot of Seattle players were on his side. Obviously, the Seahawks don't want to create that kind of division, since Wilson is their franchise QB.
Dude there is absolutely no way Harvin will be worth a 1st round pick again. Once a player is traded twice in 3 years for being a headache, he is branded. He can become the player he once was but no team is going fork up a 1st knowing that he can go back to his old ways at any point. We might be able to do better than what we gave up but his days of garnering a 1st are over.
