My fault, I misunderstood. I thought you meant you just discounted a bunch of teams off the bat, but you were referring to doing the calculation.
hmy: That is nice to see. We have been put in good FP by the defense and special teams a lot, and that explains the 25 ranking in YPG, but #6 in points scored is a nice stat. Anyone want to check the rest of the teams that are ranked ahead of the Jets to see when the offenses had the ball in good Field position? I did the Jets and got 27 starts from the 50 or better and 5 were in the red zone.
Well really he should be crediting Plaxico Burress for his RZ success, because even when Plax doesn't get the ball he completely changes the complexion of the defense down near the end zone. I don't think it's fair to just strip Schottenheimer of any credit though. The red zone playcalling has been balanced and creative all season long (the abuse of Antoine Cason comes immediately to mind.)
And Burress was finally being used the right way once Mangold returned. RZ and sideline throws where he just goes and gets the ball. I too think that Schotty hasn't had a totally shit game in a while. But, when you go from 28th to 1st after Tom Moore comes in, I do believe that he has something to do with it.
The issue is really consistency. Yes they are scoring, but the offense goes through stretches of just putrid play. Even in this past go against the Chiefs, they had a stretch of 2 or 3 series after the first TD where they did not look good. Then they picked it up and looked fine.
No O scores every series, it's ok to punt once in a while. They dominated the Chiefs D int he 1st half and took the foot off the gas pedal in the 2nd half or they would have scored 50+. The O has had stretches of games where they look awful but they appear to have gotten through that- let's hope it is for good.
Rex and the offensive personnel have been saying that the bugs are out of the system and the offense is having great weeks of practice. If this is true, then the team is only going to get better as the season comes to a close and it'll be great timing for the playoffs. While I don't see them as a SB contender, if they can knock off someone before a much better team comes along, it'll be nice to see in Rex/Sanchez 3rd year.
