Amaro played the bench the first half of the season and came on very nicely when he started playing. I expect him to do very well this season. Pryor is a natural SS but was forced to play FS, which is all about taking the right angle to the WR. Obviously this is not Pryors strong suit. Moving back to SS this year will be like his rookie season, so lets wait and see. He hits like a mac truck, which will be nice against TEs and RBs.
Is it just me or is Sheldon Richardson missing from this list. Was this done because of the suspension.
Yes, Sheldon Richardson is missing from this because of the suspension. This is for week 1 roster. Now let me address the three biggest problems you seem to have with my projections. First, there have been comments on the O-line projections. I kept Winters since he can be a backup center and has experience at LT. I placed him at RG because he is bigger and more of a road grader than Ijalana. It doesn't really matter where they are projected, 2nd tier O-linemen need to play multiple spots. Freeman is too small for guard and only has value at C, plus he is still eligible for the PS so that is where he goes, just in case Mangold gets hurt, we can activate him. Aboushi played some RT in college and I threw him there just to round out the O-line, but he can be easily moved in to guard. I took Dozier over Harrison, since you have to draw the line and 9 is more than enough. I felt Dozier would be snatched off the PS way before Harrison. Dozier was a higher pick and it’s too early to let him go, plus he was a four-year starter at left tackle in college for added value. Regardless of where they play, my nine guys remain the same. I took into the equation their experience, contracts and ages. The second area you all seemed to disagree was at WR. My top six included Graham and Walter, and is depended on if we keep 6 WR on the roster. If they cut the O-line to 8 guys like a lot of teams there would be room. Yes, they traded for Posey and per logic that would mean they would keep him, but he sucks. No easy way to say it, he has 22 catches in three seasons with his only TD coming off a return. I can name a lot of receivers with way better stats who are unemployed. TJ Graham has 57 catches and 4 TDs over the same period and is good on ST too. I will concede that our GM did draft Posey and then traded for him so even if he does suck he would be the 6th WR on the team, but not my pick. Third item was me keeping 5 backs on the 53 man roster. Most teams keep 4-5 RB/FB and if we are going to be a running team we will need a FB. It’s not my fault the Jets didn’t pick up a better one. At least Tommy Bohanon can catch the ball. If he was good enough for Rex who you all loved, he should still be good enough. I don’t think the Jets will cut Powell and he would be my lowest rated RB. Stacy could be a #2 RB on a few team, if he can stay out of trouble or the coach’s dog house, in this team he's #3. Stevan Ridley once rushed for 1263 yards in a season and if healthy still could. Plus, he has averaged 4.3 yards a carry during his 4 seasons. That leaves Chris Ivory as the #1 and the main workhorse. The only option to drop to 4 RB/FB is drop Bohanon or Powell, and if that is the case I hope its Powell.
We'll see, but imo Winters is very likely to not even make the team as bad as he has been. Just because he took a few snaps at center in OTAs doesn't mean he can or will become the backup. Dozier has also been taking snaps at Center. Ijalana is NOT going to play RG. He's the backup LT and somewhat injury prone, so they're not going to risk him at RG. I'm not sure that you're correct that Dalton is eligible for the PS. Unless I'm mistaken, he spent one full season on the Jets' roster, then spent last season on IR, which I think counts as a season of service on the roster. If so, I think that makes him ineligible. Besides if Mangold went down in a game, the Jets couldn't activate Dalton, and unless Dozier or Winters could handle center effectively and make the line calls, the Jets would be screwed in that game. We don't necessarily need a FB, but even if we do, Copeland could quite possibly beat out Bohannon, as Copeland is a much better blocker. In the recent past, the Jets have used DL, OL and TEs as blocking FBs. They could do so again. We didn't all love Rex, either. I despised the loudmouthed, clueless doofus. Powell isn't going to be cut. You can forget about that. He'd have to get seriously injured or totally screw the pooch in TC. Bowles has already said that Powell deserves and is going to see the ball more this season. Unless Ridley is not healthy, he will probably make the team. I could see the team keeping all 4 RBs and no FBs.
The NFL and NFLPA agreed to some practice squads eligibility changes. First, a player must have a minimum of six games – up from the current three games – on a Practice Squad in order for that season to count as one of the player’s three permissible seasons of Practice Squad service. Second, each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of two Practice Squad players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons of free agency credit. Absent this exception, a player who has earned one or more accrued seasons would not be eligible for a Practice Squad unless the player spent fewer than nine games on a club’s 46-player active list in each of his accrued seasons.
Not sure I agree with Marcus Williams having trade value. Based on what? And if he did there is no way they would trade him in their own division teams rarely do that. The last time I remember this happening was Pats/Mia in the Welker trade which turned out to be a horrid deal for Miami.
Marcus Williams came in as an undrafted FA and with limited reps he started 8 games for the Jets last year. He is still raw, but shown flashes. He could be a backup CB on a lot of teams, but the Jets are stacked and don't have the room. Williams already knows Rex's defense and was probably the best CB actually playing for Rex last year. Those two things could make him valuable enough to trade. The first team hit with injuries could be a viable trade partner.
This will not be a Rex Ryan style roster. I would be shocked if we don't keep 6 WR. Owusu is very very likely to make the team as WR #5 and KR, Marshall, Decker, Smith and Kerley are locks. 6th spot will be between Posey Powell, Evans, Enunwa and Rumph. Special teams will likely be determining factor. There is no FB role in the offense so Bohannon has to beat out Amaro and Sexton for the HB spot. Very unlikely to happen. We likely only keep 3 RBs anyway in the offense total. Unlikely 4, definitely not 5. Not that type of offense. Marcus Williams is almost a lock to make the team. Very, very unlikely Pace and Babin split. IK is making the team. Harrison makes it at guard. Too good of a prospect unless he is completely terrible and has no work ethic in camp. No one has any idea what will happen on the OL. Too tough to predict. Quite possible there is a player or two on the OL that is not on our roster yet. I cant imagine Dalton Freeman not making the roster at this point. We likely keep 9 corners and 4 ILBs, though Taiwan Jones does have good shot at making team. Overall, I think the list is far from 93% accurate.
They most certainly DO have the room. Why wouldn't they? Bowles likes to use a lot of DBs. Milliner could start the season on the PUP list, either he or McDougle could go down with an injury again, or both could struggle. How stupid would they look if they traded Williams, then both McDougle and Milliner either struggled or were injured, and they suddenly had no depth? Cro will probably only play here one season, two at most. Skrine is best suited to the slot CB position. Williams could wind up being the best young CB they have and be a starter long with Revis next season. With the need for quality QBs in today's NFL to trade a young, cheap CB with potential would be criminally stupid, especially to a division rival. You just don't do those kinds of things. You really don't understand the NFL.
I believe in my heart if you up your game everyne else will play better. Geno is a shrub and you could have the greatest OC in football history and there will be no improvving him. Sure they will give him a chance but with little patience because it will be time to move on from Geno.
Marty Morningwhig was a successful OC but not so good as a head coach. He could't get anything out of Geno. I don't believe we have enough still to effectvely run a Gailey offense. There is not one running back that can catch a screen pass. Sure it might look good in training camp and presseason but once the light go on Geno will stink it up. I wanted an OC from one of the successful teams like Seattle or Green Bay. A WR coatch from them would had been great.
So with all your wisdom, who is being cut to get down to nine. You made a statement, now make your guess. You say who is going to make the team, who should make the team and who has a shot at making the team. This is not a 75 man roster. Who is not making the team in your world? Freeman is way too undersized to play guard, and not talented enough to play tackle, he is just a backup center who can't LS. What makes him so valuable to you or this team? He is still PS eligible so why waste the spot? He would never be activated on game day even if kept on the roster. Place him on PS and when he gets better and puts on weight, he can make the team next year when he is no longer PS eligible. If an injury does happy, we pick him up on the roster. You say a lot with no information to back it up. I at least said who wouldn't make the team any why.
Dude, you should really stop posting with doing some fact checking, because with every succeeding post you show yourself to be more and more ignorant, and that you have no earthly clue what you're talking about. To say that Freeman can't LS is flat out wrong. He was a very good, if not great LS at Clemson. After he was signed by the Jets and was impressive in his first TC, several of us on the Jets' site I was posting on at the time pondered if within a year Dalton might enable the Jets to save a roster spot by cutting Tanner Purdum, since Freeman could be both the LS and backup center. If you're going to post, you need to get your facts straight and not constantly just make stuff up. You accuse johnnysd of saying a lot without posting any information to back it up. At least he doesn't post inacurate and flat out wrong information like you do. How about pulling the log out of your own eye first and learning to post accurate information, instead of blatantly wrong facts in post after post?
This is the NFL, not college, and there are a thousand guys that were very good in college at their position, but aren't on NFL rosters. If Freeman was that good, he would have been drafted or on a 53 man roster last season or able to make one this year. There is a shortage of NFL caliber LS in the NFL, and if he was so great he would have been on the roster last year for that. Tanner Purdum has been the Jets LS for the last five seasons and not likely to be leaving any time soon. When a team uses a valuable spot for a specialist like a LS, he has to be better than just good in college. The facts you want me to check clearly show Freeman (as great as you say he was in college), is not one of the best 32 LS in the NFL and some teams need a LS. What is a fact is Freeman can't play guard or tackle and need to put on weight and muscle. Out of all the staring centers in the NFL in 2015, there is only one under 300 pounds. Most are between 300 to 320 pounds. Chris Myers for the Houston Texans is the exception. He has started 128 straight games and played in 153 straight games since being drafted. So don't even try to compare Freeman to Myers. Did I mention Myers is a top ten center in the NFL? The FACT is, if you are not a starter, then you have to play multiple spots to give yourself a high enough value to be kept around. Freeman is not the best center or LS on this team, and his ST value is not great. Add in he is TOO SMALL for guard. Freeman (Undrafted FA) has limit value and little invested in, and if you want to stay around when people like Winters (3rd round pick) and Dozier (4th round pick) are not , you need to have more value than being a backup LS and backup center. So now I accuse you of saying very little without posting any information to back it up. "He was a very good, if not great LS at Clemson." Don't make me laugh. Freeman is PS eligible and the Jets will keep him there for depth.
LOL Whatever dude. I never said that Freeman was one of the best 32 LSs in the NFL, but then you can't be one of the best 32 if you aren't one of the 32. The fact of the matter is that teams rarely change their LSs once they find one that is consistently good. About the only time they do is if he retires, gets injured, or becomes a liability with either his snapping or blocking. It's almost a superstition with NFL teams. They just don't change them very easily or very often. There is no shortage of LSs in the NFL. You wanna accuse others of posting crap without backing it up with facts? Pull the log out of your own eye. You constantly make shit up, when you have no clue what you're talking about. Players that have the ability to LS, however, and have demonstrated that they can do it at a high level in college, have value, regardless of what you think. Long snapping is long snapping. There is no huge difference between a major college program like Clemson and the NFL. The only difference is with the size of the defender in front of them that they have to block. Freeman is also the 2nd best center on the roster at present. He got a decent number of snaps last season and played well. He has been in the NFL and on the Jets for 2 seasons. If he was going to put on additional strength and muscle, he would have already done so. Some players' frames and metabolism won't allow them to put on much additional weight. He is small for an OG. I'm sure that is why the Jets were trying Winters and Dozier at center. They probably are trying to replace Freeman, because of his small stature. They'd undoubtedly rather have someone bigger. They are probably also trying to ascertain if Winters is salvageable and if Dozier is worth keeping. Neither have exactly stood out or proven that they belong in the NFL. The only two things you're correct on are that backup OL have to be versatile if they want to stick for long in the NFL, and draft picks have an advantage over UFAs in sticking on rosters. Teams are hesitant to admit they made a mistake with a drafted player. That said, we all know how many UDFAs wind up sticking with teams every season, and how a number of them go on to become very, very good starters. If Dozier and/or Winters prove they can be a quality center in TC, then Freeman probably will be cut, and I doubt if he'd even be re-signed to the PS unless it was to have a backup LS and center should Mangold get injured and Winters or Dozier falter. That said, if Freeman clearly shows that he is the 2nd best center on the team in TC, and Dozier or Winters don't look like they can handle the center position, then the Jets will probably keep him unless they see a camp cut elsewhere they think can be better. The bottom line is that he has value, and is not the worthless schlub that you try to make him out to be. Your comment that if Freeman was that good he'd have been drafted is laughable and clearly shows your ignorance. Tons of players go undrafted every year, and a pretty fair number of them not only wind up sticking with NFL teams for multiple seasons, but some of them go on to be quality starters and even stars and Pro Bowlers. LSs aren't drafted, either. They are almost always or always UDFAs. I've never heard of one single LS who was drafted, but there may have been a few who were 6th or 7th round picks.
If you seriously think they will keep Freeman because he is the 2nd best center and a LS, you're nuts. So what you are saying is, unless an injury occurs to either Mangold or Purdum, this guy would NEVER see any playing time? Unless he has other value at G or ST, he will not be on the 53 man roster, and at this time he has NO extra value. Not to say there couldn't be an injury. My question to you is, if the Jets keep this one player, then who will they cut? You can say they will keep any player, but unless you can also name someone who must first leave, your statement have no value. If you are saying they keep Freeman and cut Winters, then okay, or if you say they cut Dozier, then ok to that. What I said is most team only keep 8 OL and never more than 9, ten if you count Purdum (LS). I stated they keep Winters and Dozier, who are both under their rookie contract and were high enough draft picks to give another year. I totally agree with, "The fact of the matter is that teams rarely change their LSs once they find one that is consistently good." So the point I'm saying is not that Winters or Dozier must prove they can player center, but Freeman must prove he can play some other position besides center. Freeman is not big enough nor strong enough to play guard for any extended amount of time. Plus playing guard you have to have good feet and his are suspect. I was very generous to allow ten spots for OL, and I stick with my picks based on contracts, value, and versatility. LT 60 Ferguson, 71 Ijalana LG 66 Colon, 67 Winters C 74 Mangold RG 77 Carpenter, 70 Dozier RT 68 Giacomini, 75 Aboushi LS 46 Purdum "Tanner Purdum has served as the Jets long snapper for every game since 2010, helping punter Steve Weatherford match an NFL record with 42 punts inside the 20-yard line in 2010 and kicker Nick Folk establish a new team mark for consecutive field goals at home (20). In five years with the Jets Tanner Purdum has NEVER flubbed a snap... and has never missed a game."
So, call me nuts. But if you think they won't keep Freeman if Winters and/or Dozier don't prove they can handle the center position in TC, you're the one who's nuts. This management team won't go into the season without a legit backup at center. I'm not saying Freeman is a lock to make the roster. Far from it. I just took issue with your summarily dismissing him as if he were no good, and your lack of knowledge for not knowing he has been on the team for two seasons and had time to get bigger and stronger if he can. Thus, if he doesn't make the final roster, I can't see him being named to the PS even if he is eligible. If he can't play OG because of his size and they think he's smaller than they want for center, I can't see taking up a spot on the PS that could be used to keep a young player that they can develop. As I said earlier, since they tried both Winters and Dozier at center, I think they may be trying to replace Freeman because of his small size, but then again, they may just have been trying to determine what value those two had. If Freeman proves he can play in spite of his size and Winters and/or Dozier don't prove they can play center, all bets are off. They will keep someone who can play the position should Mangold get injured. Personally, I'm hoping that Dozier proves he can play center since they don't seem to be giving him much of a shot to compete for the starting spot at RG. Maybe with a new OL coach and two years experience, the light will go on for Winters, but I'm not holding my breath. I still think they may keep Brewer because of his experience and ability to play both OG and OT. It's hard to say for certain who the Jets will keep if both Winters and Dozier fail to show they can play center, but if Freeman shows he belongs in spite of his smaller size, then I think he will stay and one of Winters or Dozier will go. Neither Bowles nor Magic Mike have any investment in either. My guess is that Winters is the one most likely to be cut since he's had two season to prove himself and has not played well, whereas Dozier has only had one year and Bowles was complimentary of him in OTAs. For that matter, the Jets could cut two or all three of them and sign some other camp cuts. I think they will probably keep 9 OL. Of that, I think that Mangold, Ferguson, Ijalana, Carpenter, Giacomini, Brewer and probably Aboushi are locks. I think Brewer will be the backup RT and his ability to play OG as well will secure his spot. Aboushi has been strictly an OG in the NFL I believe. I think Dozier has a good chance to stick. They may opt to keep Colon because of his experience, but I don't think they will put up with all the penalties. Assuming there are no injuries, I think the final 2 spots will be up for grabs between Dozier, Colon, Freeman, and Winters. I think that there's a pretty good chance that Dozier proves he can play center and OG, and makes it. If not that spot will go to Freeman. I think Winters and Freeman won't make it under those circumstances. They may then opt to keep Colon, keep Harrison if he impresses, or if there are enough players at other positions they want to keep, might decide to keep only 8 OL. I think Qvale and Harrison would probably have to play lights out or there be a couple of injuries for either of them to make the roster. That said, I think based on talent alone Harrison has the better chance of the two. With his talent, if he has any kind of work ethic and shows anything, he could make the roster. They'd probably rather stash him on the PS, but he might not clear waivers, so they may opt to keep him rather than risk losing him. Qvale will probably go to the PS. If Dozier or Winters don't make the team, the Jets could opt to keep one or both on the PS. It will be interesting.
