Be very careful in trusting this number as there have been widely varying totals in regards to the Jets cap status.
Yeah but how many major free agent signings have the Pats, Colts, Steelers, Giants and Eagles made? They are consistently good because they have great coaches and great front offices that consistently draft well. Every team has needs right now. Even the Steelers basically need an offensive line. But each of these teams basically drafts a player and develops him within their system.
Damn, that is fantastic! If that's true then we have almost as much spending money as last year, another great offseason is possible now. Go after the big names!
It looks like we'll sign Jim Leonhard and Bart Scott as well. If we could bring in Jabari Greer, Leigh Bodden or Bryant McFadden as well, our secondary is about fixed. There could even be enough room to bring in another guy as well.
I heard because they are building a new stadium they get to play this years season under the no cap rule.
No, the Jets have not Franchised anyone and will not as the deadline has passed . Leon Washington is in the Final year of his 4 year rookie contract. His cap number is $637,312 for 2009.
What you may have heard is that the Jets move into their new stadium in 2010 which as of now stands to be an uncapped year.
No. We didn't have anyone worth tagging. Leon will get a new contract this offseason, which is another reason why we needed cap space.
I'm sure he is aware of that. He won't be back with Arizona though. The cards will likely be forced to trade him. Weather you sign a guy or trade for him, you need cap space.
Anthony Weaver will apparently be released by the Texans. He was very good in Ryan's scheme in Baltimore. Signing him would give us a rotational 3-4 defensive end. He shouldn't demand much money...
Hutchinson says the ten million in savings used in that article and added to the 27 million dollar figure, had already been added in: http://www.nj.com/jets/ Report on Jets' cap is old news by Dave Hutchinson Tuesday February 24, 2009, 7:59 AM The recent report on nationalfootballpost.com of the Jets clearing roughly $10 million off their cap by reowrking the contracts of safety Kerry Rhodes and linebacker Calvin Pace is a bit misleading. The moves were made late last month and have already been factored into my cap figures. Thus, the Jets will be approximately $27 millon under the salary cap, not $37 million, when the cap numbers of tight end Crhis Baker ($2 million) and right guard Brandon Moore ($7 million) comes off the books. And that $27 million isn't official because it doesn't compute incentives earned last season by Jets players, a figure that will be substracted from the Jets current cap standing. Nonetheless, the Jets will have enough money to go after Ravens linebackers Ray Lewis or Bart Scott and safety Jim Leonhard.
Finally a link to the real truth. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/02/report_on_jets_cap_is_old_news.html
I believe the number is 15 million or so as posted here. They have already taken into account the reworked numbers of Pace and Rhodes as well. Stop and think about it for a minute. To go from 16 million over to 37 million under would be over a 50 million dollar change. They would have to drop half the team to meet that goal. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html
hmm nice, i remember him being more than solid for the ravens under rex. definitely bring him in for a look.
