I railed about this at the time - both extensions, for Macc and for Bowles. It was complete stupidity, especially since any owner that knows anything about football would've fired him the moment he passed over Mahomes and Watson in that preceding draft. Thanks for reminding me.
And you make a great point about the the two star QBs he passed on to take a box safety. And we know the reason MacMoron passed on those great QBs is because of his blunder of reaching for Hackenberg the year before in the second round. MacMoron was too vain to admit that he wasted a pick on Hack the year before, so he convinced himself that Hackenberg was still his savior--the guy who never started an NFL game before dropping out of the league.
We have 22 starters (plus STs). If an avg NFL career is 5 yrs, then we need 4+ new starters per yr. Or take just the o-line. 5 starters that play say 10 yrs. That means we need to add a lineman of starter quality every other draft. Or if you're the Jets, every other decade.
"It's becoming obvious to me that the Jets just don't know what the draft is all about." JD needs to change this perception by making wise draft picks a reality.
