I do not watch hockey. No pain there. I am a West Virginia football fan. Losing to a crappy Pitt team in December 2006 with a national championship game on the line was unbearable. Also I am or was a Mets fan. That franchise and specifically the ownership has wrecked baseball for me. I am suffering from sports depression.
THIS. I'm 21 and was brought up a Jets fan from a father who came from another country with the majority of my mom's family Giants fans. I always asked my dad why. Why did he choose the Jets as his team, even after he went to Giants games in the 80's and they were "winners." He told me it was the Sack Exchange that drew him in. He didn't really like the Giants, they didn't play their games in Mexico, but they did play Dolphins games and they played the Jets more often and he loved the sack exchange. So when he moved here the JETS were his team, not the Giants. He brought me up a Jet and I will be a Jet until I'm 6 ft under. I have suffered for the past 21 years with all the losing seasons. Those losing seasons were my childhood. The Kelly greens were my lovable losers. I saw Neil O'Donnell live at the Meadowlands for my first game. Then a fast forward to 98 came. PARCELLS made the Jets relevant. Parcells made my dad happy. Parcells made me understand that the Jets were no longer losers. Then they broke my heart. Then the Giants went to the Super bowl, lost, but made it back again 7 years later and won. I had to hear it all over again from their fans. I've been hearing it from them since I was a kid. The super bowl in 07 put it over the top. The "we're always better" argument reared it's ugly head. But I NEVER ever shyd away from the Green and White. Rex came and we made it as far as we did in 98 in 09. NO ONE, my self included expected it. I was never as happy as I was that January. Then again, they broke my heart. Then last year the 99 feeling came back, we were again "favorites" for the super bowl. I believed it, even though I feared what happened in 99 could happen again (why not, it is the JETS, ya know). Then we did it again, we went back to being only one game away. I thought for sure, it was gonna be it. Especially after the Pats game. Then once again, they broke my heart. The point of my ramble is that I as a JETS fan, a ride or die JETS fan will NEVER EVER stop loving this team. Win or lose. I as a JETS fan, am already better than a Giants fan. I worry about MY team. When the Jets finally do it, when we finally hold up the VLT, it will be THAT MUCH SWEETER.
Pisses me off because I have friends shooting their mouths off at the Jets after the Giants win tonight. I simply respond that I'm glad Rex Ryan has fucked with your franchise to the point that your thinking about a team you play once every 4 years after the biggest win your team has had in 4 years. This is unbearable, The Pats get lucky and get a team that had absolutely no business being in the 2nd round of the playoffs and the Giants catch a team who had to deal with the death of a coach's son this past week. If my worst nightmare comes true I seriously have considered not watching the SB and staying away from social media for about 3 weeks. Fortunately I'll be spending a few days in a cabin n Utah following the SB so at least I have that escape. At least I have the rest of the Nets season to look forward to and then the Mets... no wait, no I don't.
Isn't it crazy how exactly 1 year ago we were all super pumped and in our Bart Scott "Can't Wait" mentality? Watching my Giants friends celebrate brought me back to that Jets-Pats game (which I don't think many of us will argue was a bigger upset than the game we saw today). I have learned a lot watching football, but probably one of the most significant lessons to be learned is that a LOT can change over the course of 1 year. Who knows? Maybe this time next year people will be clamoring over the fact that Rex and Sanchez got us to 3 AFC championship games in 4 years.
Watched the Giants game today with a bunch of fam who are giants fans and seeing them celebrate and now being in the same spot we were the last 2 years, It hurts. Especially when they will probably do what we couldn't and win the title game and go to the big show. It never. gets. any. easier.
It's the Giants who simply got lucky, not the fact they beat them in every facet of the game, plus had to battle the refs. I will tell you the same thing I tell Giant fans that would cry the Jets backed in and got lucky in 2009 with the Colts resting, grow up you make your own luck!
The Ginats played really well and they deserv credit but they had a horseshoe yesterday w/ the Hail Mary and all the GB drops. I am tired of hearing about the officials already, the 2nd bad call was in garbage time- there was one meaningful bad call and the Giants had a few bad calls in their favor though none that required replay or that were on a turnover.
Garbage time, that also led to a new series of downs where Chris Canty got hurt. I'd say that matters a little. As for a hail Mary its part if the game, gb players could've made a play too.
The game was over at that point, it was just window dressing on the final score, if not for bad calls the Giants wouldn't have beaten Arizona and may not even have made the playoffs. bad calls happened, good teams overcome- the Giants are playing like a really good team now. I can't recall a HM ever working in a playoff game. You guys played really well and deserved to win, GB played really poorly and deserved to lose.
well IMO the only way the jets can even the score around town is to get to and win the SB thats being played at Giants, oops Metlife stadium.... i would take another stinker next year if that could propel us.
I haven't heard anything worse from my Giants friends than what I gave them the last 2 years!!!! What goes around comes around.
You know if Rex never would have said anything about the Giants in his book or otherwise their fanbase and team would have nothing to say about us right now. The only thing we can do is hope we can get our shit together to get back to the AFC Championship game and finally get over the hump.
A good fan compliments in defeat and doesn't act like a douche in winning. Half those people wore Jet hats 365 days ago and the other half probably can't name 10 nfl qbs
The Giants have always taken shots at the Jets, the great thing about the last 2 years is we didn't think about the Giants for a second.
Although some fans got upset at that stuff did anyone really believe it? So what Rex thinks his team is better, at the time he was right and what's he supposed to say? I am the head coach of a 2nd rate team?
look it up, from the moment the Jets started in the 60s to not respecting the SB title to the arrogance over the new Stadium and who got to play the first game to the current owner making fun of the Jets after the Falcon win. There is this perception about the Giants being a classy organization but the reality is they are not.
