As much as we need both, football is still a team sport, and every position is important in some way. Once we have those positions in place, we will not be regretting this draft at all.

Yes, but the Jets regretted it in 2007 after going 4-12. You think the future matters as much as the present? Mangini already had two whole offseasons to build up the O-line, D-line, find a QB, and try to get better at every other position. Why couldn't he do it? Incompetence? Is he trying to fuck with us? Does he actually think it takes more time than that to overhaul a whole NFL roster? Does he expect the wiser fans to believe that? '

    Rome wasn't built overnight.

The offensive lines problems were not nearly as evident one year ago as they were this year. After last year, the Jets did what they thought would be the best thing for this team, and that is stay the course with the current crop of talent. However, losing Pete Kendall, along with the performance fall-off from Anthony Clement this year, absolutely annhilated the offensive line, which also took down our QBs and our running game.

The problem IS evident right now, and there is no reason for it to not be addressed now.

Next year people are going to be whining about why the Jets didn't address some other position that was lacking in the coming season. It happens every year.

But it could have been built in 2 offseasons if their coach wasn't as dumb as ours has proven himself to be.

So they should have given into Kendall to show guys we'd pay if we're desperate, even if they call the HC and GM out in the newspaper. Kendall easily would have been 1 or 2 extra wins simply on his veteran leadership, and we'd only be 10 more wins behind the Pats. 10 wins could easily covered by not trading up for Revis...maybe we don't get someone as good BUT we'd get more young bodies and that matters more.

Clement shouldn't even have been on the team. Maybe Mangini loves him, which means we'd have a gay as well as dumb coach.

He should have addressed it last offseason. Now we'll forever be scarred with a 4-12 season and all too obvious signs that we're in decline. 10-6 to 4-12...trending downwards.

Bullshit. We needed OL and DL last year and Mangini didn't know that at all...he didn't sign or draft any elite DL players (not that I'll list who those guys were)...he ignored all the OL guys despite an obvious need...if I had been running the team we could have been challenging the Pats this year.

I'll take roy williams,, but due to what Rogers' work ethic and injury history is i'd rather wait until hes cut from the team and maybe take a flyer on him. no need to trade anyone over to him.

Dogshit. This is the analysis of an Armchair Monday Morning Quarterback.

The Giants have been reaming Coughlin and Co. for their decisions for years... hell, they were talking about him being fired if he lost week 17... a month later, they are World Champions, have the greatest Super Bowl in their team's history, and did it against what everyone THOUGHT was the greatest team in NFL history.

How did that happen? I'll tell you how... because the Giants stuck with the program. They allowed Coughlin to build his team, and do things his way. He took a TON of heat over his tenure as Giants coach. He made adjustments along the way, but has stuck with the program. Now the Giants are something undeniable, Super Bowl Champions.

So getting back to your response...

But it could have been built in 2 offseasons if their coach wasn't as dumb as ours has proven himself to be.

Elephantshit. Show me two teams in NFL history that were built in 2 offseasons. No NFL team is built in two offseasons, especially when you want to make the kind of changes Mangini and Tannenbaum have been making.

Horseshit. This is the most LUDICROUS statement ever. What good would giving into Kendall have done? Would the Jets have gone 7-9 instead of 4-12? Give me a break. Here's what would've happened if we had kept Kendall... 1) We'd still have a malcontent LOSER on our team, and he would've been more empowered by the fact that the FO gave him into. 2) We'd have an aging LG on the roster who would need to be replaced in a year or two ANYWAY. 3) We would not have a 4th round pick, a pick by the way that has been VERY GOOD to the Jets. 4) We'd have a team that is no longer under the control of Mangini and Tannenbaum. They put their foot down and showed who is running the show. 5) Players in the future would have a basis to stand on when they wanted another million dollars because they feel they deserve it. All they have to do is go "Pete Kendall" on the Jets and then you'd have more and more of these fiascos interrupting business.

As for Revis and Harris, we ended up with the best and second best players in the draft at their positions, respectively. These are both players who have ELITE potential and play very well in THIS system. If you want to complain that this system doesn't work then fine, but also get a grip on the reality that the system is not only here, but it is not going ANYWHERE anytime soon. Defenses win championships, and we have possibly two elite defensive players now thanks to the drafting on Mangini and Tannenbaum.

Clement shouldn't even have been on the team.

Cowshit. Clement's performance was very good in 2006. He's cheap, he knows the system, and had been reliable prior to last year, you just don't cut players like that for any reason.

Maybe Mangini loves him, which means we'd have a gay as well as dumb coach.

Well, isn't that just a lovely cup of tea. Here I was thinking the Jets sucked last year due to horrendous offensive line execution, no running game, constant WR injuries, and no pass rush or penetration at the point of attack, but then I am "enlightened" by this wonderful revelation. All my prior thoughts on the matter are false, because as JLDW points out, it's all because Mangini is both gay and dumb. How could I have been so foolish to miss that.

Bullshit. We needed OL and DL last year and Mangini didn't know that at all...he didn't sign or draft any elite DL players (not that I'll list who those guys were)...he ignored all the OL guys despite an obvious need...if I had been running the team we could have been challenging the Pats this year.

Mooseshit. The most successful drafting philosophy in the NFL is to always take the best available player. Mangini and Tannenbaum evaluated the draft and determined that the Jets would be better off trading up for their two top players rather than end up with two less than top players and another couple of picks later on that also probably would've been very average. This doesn't apply every year but it did this particular year. The result? We got two awesome players.

I agree that the Jets should've done more in FA to address the OLine, but they didn't and it is what it is. At the very least they made a serious attempt at signing Jon Runyan, but were outbid and hurt by the fact that he wanted to return to the Eagles. Runyan would've fixed the RT position for a couple of years but would've cost so much that it wouldn't have been cost effective.

On the DL side, the real improvement that needed to be made was Kimo's position, and they did improve that spot by bringing in Kenyon Coleman. Coleman quietly had a good year this year. The real problems with the front 7 right now are not the DEs, but rather the NT and the LB positions. Robertson is overmatched at NT, but is effective at DE. A Robertson, Ellis, Coleman DE rotation would be good, but the Jets need to bring in a real NT. That was not possible last year, and as far as I can tell, won't be possible this year either. The LBs this year outside of Harris were god awful. Can you imagine how awful they would've been without Harris the second half of the year? Forget about screaming about the OL, people would be screaming right now about the LBs being an even bigger need than the OL, which is very true.

Now get off your armchair and start analyzing why things really are the way they are, and what needs to be done to fix them.

Eric Mangini and Mike Tannenbaum give the Jets their best chance to win, short term and long term. I don't believe they are fools and they will fix this ship. This past year was definitely a black mark on their record, but firing them after one bad season is about as intelligent as drinking paint. This team needs consistency and an opportunity to build a team exactly the way Eric Mangini wants to build it, no other way. I see that in progress but it is exactly that, in progress. Get used to it.

    You, sir, are a hater.

    *Yawn*

Something Mangini isn't yet. He's had two years to become a champion, instead he's only SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN that he is a dumby who doesn't know football and only got this job because the Jets desperately want to be the Pats.

Thats a lie. Every championship team, every dynasty, was built in a matter of minutes by smarter men than Mangini.

Would the Jets have gone 7-9 instead of 4-12?

You answered the question yourself. We could have won maybe 3 more games with Kendall, and then we wouldn't obviously be declining and such a historically bad team. Under Mangini, the idiot who obviously doesn't have a clue that you build around the trenches.

Those are poor reasons for us to go 4-12. We'll never recuperate, and that matters to me more than Mangini and Tanny supposedly showing they have balls.

At CB and ILB, not G, T, or DL. Therefore they are useless and only contributed more to our 4-12 season. And I'll repeat...who drafted him? Our idiotic, N000000B of a HC.

But they do not play OL or DL, and we went 4-12 after drafting them...connect the dots there.

Four. And. Twelve. What do you say to that?

This is the only part of your post I will not be tongue in cheek about. Clement was signed only because Andrews/Colombo didn't sign, and the draft offered little immediate help (and good value) at the RT position.
    Now you see the light.

Two "awesome" players at positions that had no immediate impact on our W-L record...and if they did it was NEGATIVE because we went 4-12.

Runyan was '06...we went after Colombo and Andrews last offseason...I mean we didn't because Mangini is an idiot...

All I read was "blah blah blah."

I don't buy Robertson as an end (full time) actually...height is actually important at that position and he'd be the smallest 3-4 DE in the league. I do think we could use him in passing downs there, when we show a 4-3 front, and even at NT in obvious passing situations.

Why would I do that? I know and see all from my arm chair.

    Four...and twelve.

    I await your applause.

You made a lot of good points, but why are you giving up on Tangini so soon? Mangini took a garbage team to the playoffs in '06. Give them at least two more seasons to rebuild this mess, and if nothing changes -- then you can call for their heads.

I couldn't disagree more. We are incredibly thin at WR. Coles' days are done, he is doubtful to survive another season with the concussion issues he has. Cotchery is a solid 2. After that we have.........prospects in Wallace Wright, Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney...A #1 receiver is near the top of the needs of this team after only OL in my view, and equal with a pass rushing OLB.

I do not think a true NT would hurt, but I also think that D-Rob at nose along with Pouha is no where near as bad as people think. We are very weak at OLB and despite having like 18 DE in camp we do not get good play there either. With better DE support and a better rushing OLB I think DR-ROB/Pouha is fine at NT and nowhere near as big a need as WR or OL.

just move ellis to strong side LB, move drob to left DE, and play BOTH Pouha and Mosley side by side in the middle with Harris behind them. this aint rocket science. 43

Ranking needs by level of importance doesn't really do much though...We have too many needs in too many different spots to really care (long run) to target guys at certain positions.

BPA > need and quality > quantity.

Here is the problem Jets have. No one going to trade for D robertson when they know he will he most likely going to be cap casualty.(Can get him at there price)

Second there is going to be alot of team intrested in roy williams, and unfortunately for Jets have better player than vilma to offer. Raiders have a better package for Roy Williams- like a proven pass rusher in Derrick Burgess. A proven passrusher is a much higher commodity, than a MLB coming off a serious knee injury.

the problem is everyone including the CS new what we needed in last years draft.OL(OT,G,OT,G) and a DT as well as WR. Those were are needs going into the draft. We got a CB and a LB two needs we could gotten in FA or this years draft. Not questioning their talent but why upgrade when we had absolutely no-one on the OL. Upgrading is when you have some talent there but want more after the needs are delt with. We had no one on the OL, NO ONE. What now do we address this time? We still have the same needs No OL+ PLUS DL+WR+QB+DE
