If they used lines of coke to demonstrate proper route running, then Jones could very well be the next Jerry Rice.

He needs to mature A LOT!
There's no excuse for taking his helmet off and giving up 15 yds.

We don't have a number 1 receiver and we have too many receivers overall.

    It should be:
    #1 -
    #2 - Cotchery
    #3 - Clowney
    #4 - Stuckey
    #5- Smith/Henry

We don't have a really strong blocking WR either....and to this point we don't appear to have a cerebral-type WR who can get open with feel and his own ability to read coverage pre-snap.

I heard that Jones is excellent in powder puff football.

Jerrico Cotchery is just as good as Hines Ward is. I've watched both play a lot and their characteristics are so close to each other it's amazing. The difference is that the Steelers always have a decent option opposite Ward and they run the ball up the middle so much that the slants are almost always open.

You put Jerrico Cotchery on the Steelers instead of Ward and they wouldn't miss a beat.

I think Cotch is much better than Hines Ward right now. It doesn't matter if the Jets have a bonafide #1 receiver if they don't have a bonafide NFL QB to throw it to them. They scored 405 points with Coles and Cotch and I believe that Clown/stuckey can almost match coles' production from last year.

Add in dustin keller, who in his second year is stronger, faster and more experienced, and they have a chance.

    Don't trade for a WR

I have no statistical proof whatsoever, but just on gut feeling I don't agree with that statement. If we were able to trade those two straight up (in a pretend world), I'd take Hines Ward all day long. Only downside is his age compared to Cotchery.

Its not a stats thing although in the last 3 years:

    Cotch: 47 games, 235 rec. 2,949 yards, 13 TDs
    HWard: 43 games, 226 rec, 2,750 yards, 20 TD

I don't like Ward as a player. He's dirty, and a crybaby at that. Plus he has never, ever had to be the man in Pittsburgh.

He is a hell of a blocker, but I would still rather have Cotch over him.

I don't mind that he did that at all. I love that he shows fire and passion, especially when making a big play. That's something this team needs; an attitude!

There's no question that Cotchery has done more recently with less than Ward. But to carry the comparison a step further:

    Hines Ward from 25 to 27: 48 games, 301 catches, 3,495 yards, 26 TD's.

Cotchery can get there with a big year this year but that's what he needs to do.

I think 27 year old Jerrico Cotchery and 33 year old Hines Ward are very similar players. I think Cotchery has a ways to go to be as good as Hines Ward in his prime and I also think with enough supporting factors around him, he could do that.

In t he alst 3 years, Ward has been the #1 guy in Pittsburgh, while cotch has drawn the #2 role here.

Lets see if Cotchery can handle the top DB's and double coverages he will see this season as a #1 before compairing him to a guy like Ward.

Cotchery get his shot at being a # 1 WR for the first time this year. There is a good chance that Clowney, Stuckey, or another WR that we obtain later takes that # 1 job from him before the season is over. Coles may have had injury and attitude problems but he was also our best WR since we got him back from the Skins.

To make comparisons to Hines Ward who was the top WR on his team fro several years and has almost twice as many TDs as Cotch in the last three would be premature to say the least. Ward wins that contest hands down until Cotch shows us something that we haven't seen yet.

Might I ask what the hell Marcus Henry has ever accomplished, other than being drafted in the sixth round?

A surefire bonified possession WR. # 3 on most teams. We do have need of a younger J-mac or an even better upgrade of a Wayne Cherbert type. You are killing me with this #1 WR crap. We don't have one. Best case: #1 WR Brandon Marshall(watch out Moss, TO )...#2 WR if the Clown(deep, Coles) is for real...#3 Stuckey or Audrey Allison( fast slot ), or possession type receivers( J-Mac, Cotchery, Wayne Cherbert ) Cotchery is no more than a possession receiver and on most teams a #3 or for lack of depth a #2.

How is J-Mac a possession receiver when he drops everything thrown his way?

Chrebet's forte was definitely as a possession receiver. He was always there to catch that crucial third down pass that helped us maintain possession. Pure possession receivers are the guys that get by on route running and quickness rather than size or speed. They know how to separate.

Cotchery, OTOH is a YAC guy. He gets long gains but due as much or more to his after the catch skills than because of his ability to separate, which is only decent, or pure speed. He really is a perfect #2.

When you speak of the most gifted receivers in the league (Moss, TO, Marshall), you get the full package. They are burners, PRs, and YAC guys all in one. It is not even fair to compare the elite with most guys as there is a reason they are elite. Most teams don't have that luxury.

why do we feel the need to bump all of these old threads these days?

anyway, Cotch proving the doubters, including myself, wrong. He seemed to be the only guy on offense working out there after the first quarter. Glad to be wrong.

After 3 games Cotchery is at the top of the league in receiving yards. He has stepped it up more then I expected. 3 games with over 80 yds including today's 100 yard game. He doesn't have drop issues which is nice(Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall). I'm not saying he's better then them because he's not as gifted as them but he catches the football better.

That perfect pass by Sanchez was a beauty of a catch.
