I read the weight issues were only whilst he was out injured and he came back after that and had a pro bowl year in 2006. Not noted him being hurt or fat the last 2 years.

We got a good deal but not great. Pro bowl DTs are very hard 2 get, and we got a very good DT. I lived in Charlotte,NC and he blew up the line consistantly. Hes a beast and probably a top 5 DT in this league. We wouldn't have gotten the talent in the draft for a DT in the draft anyway, we could have gotten a bust. I love this move. We needed this badly and we are almost set on the DL. One more DT(FA), a DE( in the draft) and possibly another late draft or FA LB. We can still upgrade our DBs.

A 3rd and a 5th is not too much value if Jenkins is really healthy. It does pose some depth issues down the road since the Jets seem to think it's okay to not have multiple of their draft picks in each draft recently.

My gut tells me that the Jets may make some individually good moves on a value basis this off-season but fall prey to the reality that they keep trading away draft picks and that never works in the long run. Not as a plan anyway.

True, but it is not like they traded for a SS. In the 3-4 defense the NT is the lynchpin opening everything up for the ILBs to shoot the gaps. Look at the difference Wilfork or Ngata made.

It is an extremely important piece to the puzzle, and 3-4 NTs are not easy to come by. And Jenkins has all of the physical and skill requirements to be a good one, IMO. And looking at this years draft there are no Wilforks or Ngatas. There is not a 3-4NT in the 3rd.

And if they trade DRob, they might be able to recover some picks also.

I agree acquiring Jenkins is a positive. We need to find out if he can play 3-4 NT though. He's definitely going to be better suited for that than D-Rob was, but how much better is the question.

I'm not 100% sure the Jets are going to be in a 3-4 next season at this point either. What if Glenn Dorsey is the guy who falls to them on the 6? That might setup a defensive line of: Ellis, Jenkins, D-Rob, Dorsey?

I honestly don't think they would draft Dorsey. There are other options. Gholston, WR, trade down.
