Well that is the point of the conditional pick, if he goes over there and dominates it will be a higher pick than a 3rd. With that thinking you should be happy that it was conditional, now we should root for him to dominate so it still benefits us.
I read 3rd and 5th and was like STEAL. Somehow I knew people would be bitching. This man is a dominant NT. The quality 3-4 NT prospects in the draft have been shooting up draft boards, with the really good options like Rubin likely going early in the 2nd. So let me ask you this, would you rather spend a 2nd round pick on an unproven rookie, or a 3rd and 5th on a proven all-pro NT?
5 yrs 35 million? Just saw on NFL Network that we signed Jenkins for 5 yrs 35 million, 20 mill guaranteed. Also said that Faneca is coming in to visit over the weekend.Calvin Pace is visiting the Dolphins today and Dolphins sign Sean Ryan from the Jets for 1 yr.Eric Coleman and everyone under the sun seems to be visiting the Falcons today.Other include Michael Turner etc.
Why? If it escalates with his performance, if he dominates the Jets could end up with a 2nd or 1st. How is that bad?
From foxsports.com...don't like the bit about weight control problems... "The New York Jets are the winners in the Kris Jenkins sweepstakes. FOXSports.com has learned that Carolina traded the defensive tackle to the New York Jets for third- and fifth-round draft picks. Although he has battled weight issues in the past, Jenkins should provide the big-bodied presence at nose tackle the team has sorely lacked since coach Eric Mangini instituted a 3-4 defensive scheme in 2006. Dewayne Robertson, who was manning the spot for New York, seems likely to get traded elsewhere. Robertson is better suited as a penetrating-style tackle in a 4-3 defensive scheme. Jenkins had 38 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season while starting 15 of 16 games for Carolina. But that wasn't good enough for the Panthers, who wanted to avoid having to pay Jenkins a $1 million roster bonus due next week. Damione Lewis, who was re-signed earlier this month, is expected to replace Jenkins in the starting lineup."
Actually, the weight issue might be a very good thing. The Jets will likely want Jenkins to beef up for NT duty. He is listed at 335 lbs now that is probably erring on the low side. I think he will play for us at 350 next year and be excellent at what we ask him to do .
It's great to have Jenkins on the team, but I hate how we trade away a lot of picks for the second year in a row. Wasn't the new FO supposed to build the team through the draft?
Medicore only because the defense we employed...saints got a deal. He'll be in top form next year....watch. I didnt expect him to get traded for next years pick....very lame
Again, we want him in top form next year and that is why it is a conditional pick. If he is in top form we get a better pick than we would have gotten now that he is not in top form.
Sorry I thought it was 4th and depending on how good he does...it'll be a 3rd, but if it can go as high as a 1st or 2nd....i'm happy with that.
YEs, we dont know yet what exactly the conditions are but yes I would have to assume that it can and most likely will be higher than a 3rd next year, especially if he returns to the form we all expect him to in the right scheme. My best guess is it will go to a 2nd next year with easy to reach conditions and it wouldnt surprise me at all if it can go as high as a first next year if he plays to a pro bowl level. Bottomline is the conditional pick next year is better than locking into a 3rd at best this year..
We have the draft ahead of us in about 60 days. I wouldn't make the assumption that the NYJ are just going to ignore it.
check this out. gets me giddy. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-5-604/Kris-Jenkins--Pro-Bowl-bound-for-Jets-.html
