Who knows, but if he did that's stupid. If you're not all chasing the same goal with the same focus it's not going to happen. Not in this league.
The problem isn't that Sanchez isn't a leader, the problem is that the Jets have no real leaders. The Chiefs may suck, but Thomas Jones beat down a mouthy rookie in the locker room and broke his arm when he was doing his Holmes impersonation. Jet's need a player that is willing to step up and keep people from stepping out of line, even if it isn't Sanchez. Coaches cannot do it all.
It appears that Jenkins has made the same leap of faith others have made in this forum. Just because Sanchez has never told the media about his dust ups with teammates, that does not mean they never happened or that he is not being a leader. It just means that he hasn't told the press about them. It's a big leap to assume that he isn't being vocal in the locker room. It's possible, but there is a lot we don't know. Similarly, just because McElroy went on radio and criticized the toxic atmosphere in the locker room - and it is doubtful he ever raised this issue with his teammates since he was a rookie 7th rounder on IR - that does not mean that he is demonstrating strong leadership skills. To me, this sort of kiss and tell behavior demonstrates a lack of concern for the team.
+10000. EXACTLY. If this team somehow got in the playoffs this year, there wouldn't be THIS much of a shitstorm going on. Winning cures all ills. Jets haven't done much of that and that is why we have this circus going down.
But if Holmes doesn't LISTEN to him, what else can Mark do? How do we know if Mark didn't TRY to nip this in the bud but Holmes basically ignored or blew him off? This crap has been going on for awhile now. Holmes NEVER respected Mark. NEVER! Not from the moment the Jets traded for him to now. All Holmes worried about was GETTING PAID, PERIOD. Keyword : USUALLY. This time he was WAAAY OFF the mark(no pun intended. lol) You never Air the team's dirty-laundry. It's not only NFL 101, it's COMMON SENSE 101. Maybe both. Who would pay money to see Rex Ryan take a dump? :breakdance:
I dont get this sh!t. We dont see what happens behind close doors. How do you know Mark didnt address the team in an angry manner in the locker room? And what good does throwing people under a bus in an already ugly situation helps anyone?
Simple. Jenkins is looking to keep his name out there to stay relevant so he says all this bullshit to the media which would sure bring much attention to himself. I don't even think Jenkins believes the crap he's spewing, tbh. Unless he really IS stupid to believe that revealing IN-HOUSE business to the Public constitutes "Good Leadership".
I agree completely. Sanchez struggled this year, so people aren't going to take him seriously. Sanchez has tried, with Jets West and off season gatherings to get this team together. It's unfortunate for him, but until he becomes a QB you can rely on day in and day out, nobody is going to consider him a leader. I think Jenkins is way off here, because Sanchez has at least made an effort. The same can't be said for his teammates.
Thank you. And of course we have no idea what Sanchez did or said behind closed doors to deal with San Antonio Holmes.
I think Rex has it wrong that he needs to NOT have captains. What he needs to do is let the players pick their own captains. They are the best judge of character.
I agree that Sanchez needs some more mongrel in him and to "grow a pair" - whether it is not in his nature or whether he will grow into it only time will tell. I question the above statement though which indicates that to "grow a pair" means airing your dirty laundry in public. It's pretty disappointing to see all the comments in the media over the last week by players and former players slinging shit at each other publicly instead of manning up and hashing out these issues behind closed doors. Will any locker room issues get sorted out by comments made to journalists in press-conferences and interviews? I'd think it would only exacerbate the problems not fix them.
It's pretty disappointing to hear an EX-NFL Player actually SUGGEST that Airing an NFL team's dirty laundry in public equates to "growing a pair" and being a leader. Keeping things in-house is not just NFL 101, but it's COMMON SENSE 101! Blair, I read that he has tried to get Holmes on the same page as him in meetings but Holmes just plain either combats him or just ignores him. Holmes does NOT respect Mark Sanchez from the first time he was traded here to now. All Holmes cared about was 2 things : 1.) Holmes and 2.) Holmes' Money He now has both and to hell with Sanchez and the JETS as far as Holmes is concerned in his mind. Why oh why did Tanny get blinded by the SuperBowl ring that Holmes wore and signed him to a bloated contract and not Braylon? I mean...Maybe BE might not have lived up to the contract but at least we can say he wouldn't DOGG IT ON THE FIELD, or disrespect/ignore Mark as the QB.
I have said it several times, Mark's only job is football. Instead he wants to be Broadway Mark and he is far from that, as said in the article Brady can get away with that shit because he has rings. Mark needs to worry about football and not all that random ass he is going after....
True. All that was reported was they were at odds the week leading up to the Fish game. Safe to say, whatever Sanchez said or did behind closed doors didn't work.
Wow, you guys are assuming what was said and done in the locker room. You want all the players to air all the dirty laundry in the media so that this board can light up with more idiotic comments. We don't know what is said and done and what we think is irrelevant. Some of these post are completlly assonine. Business 101 tells us that you never never never wash you laundry in public. Sanchez is doing the right thing by not talking and airing out everything that is wrong with this team. He is in my opinion ( you know what they say: opinions are like assholes everyone has one) leading by example. McElroy should pay attention. All the ex players turned football analyst are doing a job for ratings, a paycheck and to keep their job and will do anything even rip their former team a new asshole to keep it.(see Tiki Barber). I miss the days of Mancini Media silence. LOL
