I love the idea of young guys getting reps too, but what young guys do you want to see? If healthy, holmes on the outside, kerley in the slot and there's a void on the outside. Hill will get some PT, but he is a project and it's not fair to the QB to have him out there getting starters minutes.
Edwards would have to play for the vet minimum to get back here and I don't think he will do that. Maybe when camp is over if he still doesn't have a job but by then it will be too late.
Jets might be one of the few, if not the only team that is giving Braylon a look these days. Vet min. and I'd resign him. If he doesn't want that, move on.
WR is one of the few positions that regularly plays into mid 30's if the guy can stay healthy and has some talent. If Braylon has gotten over the notion that he is a star and will command a high salary then I'd be all for bringing him in and kicking the tires. He has health issues to be sure but if he can stay healthy I think he could add something good to the Jets offense over the next few seasons. Anything that you can do to get better that is sustainable makes sense when you are a low talent team trying to make a comeback. That Braylon isn't likely to be a 5 year player isn't all that important if he can be a good one this year and next.
Why do people assume Braylon will command a high salary? I'm sure he will be willing willing to sign a veteran minimum contract.
Money..........they know the receivers aren't good. The fact he isn't here and that they are trying out WRs that haven't played in two years means he wants more than they want to pay.
Yes. And as the 4th WR he'll have plenty of time to show him how the offense is being orchestrated on the field.
Money isn't the issue, Braylon isn't commanding big $. They probably want their WRs besides Holmes and Hill to be able to play STs and Braylon doesn't.
I think we all tend to romanticize the play of Braylon. Rightfully so, he was such an intricate part of the team that fought to the back-to-back conference title games. He's not gonna be that guy anymore though. It's funny, he's probably the most beloved players of the last five years on this board haha. And I'm included on that. I was a big believer that the Jets got it wrong by re-signing Holmes and letting Braylon walk when it seemed as though they had to make a choice between one or the other. I don't see him as a productive player anymore though. We'll see I guess.
Idzik really said nothing. That being said, I'm sure that he's not comfortable with this WR group going into camp. We can probably expect Bray-bray (or someone else who can catch) to be in Cortland, sharing reps with all our young, speedy hands-less guys.
Indeed, however, bill belichick gives no information ever, but the media polishes his alls constantly.
age and upside, not money. they know what braylon is. if they decide to bring him back it will be after the first preseason game. give the young guys some time first
Don't understand why this hasn't happened already Bring him on board, we don't need bonafide scrubs like Clyde Gates or Jordan White ever seeing the field. Don't make the same mistake as last year, and actually bring in NFL worthy players on offense please.
Probably because Clyde Gates & Jordan White play special teams. Edwards is probably a backup plan if one of the projected starters isn't ready.
This fixation on bringing back Braylon baffles me. Didn't anybody see last year how slow he was in & out of his breaks? That he was never a great route runner to begin with? A veteran WR is absolutely needed. But it's not as simple as "Braylon is a veteran who has had success here in the past, bring him in". Modern WR units are alot like starting 5 in basketball. You need guys who can do different things, fill different roles & compliment one another. As players find their niche, they tend to settle in. That's exactly where I think the Jets are at. Holmes,Kerley, Hill & even Gates are useful pieces. But they need to settle into their roles..which they've been unable to do. What's missing is a tough handed route runner who can handle intermediate routes. That means quick cuts, get seperation, get to the spot & hang onto the football. This will open up the seams for Kerley/Holmes, Deep for Hill & short for Winslow/RB's. As it stands right now teams will still be stacking the box & playing cover 2/cover 3 behind it & the Jets will have no answer. Braylon doesn't change that. Braylon had his victory lap w/ the team last year. This is a NEW ERA of Jets football. Let the past be the past.
^Holmes & Kerley can both handle intermediate routes. The problem is, until Hill develops (or doesn't) we need somebody to fill the void. He's clearly not ready yet. Braylon Edwards should be brought in. It's low risk, high reward. He won't command a big salary and he's hungry to prove himself again. He has existing chemistry with Sanchez, and was the best receiver we had during those last couple games last year, and was a critical piece of the puzzle in 2010. He overcame dropping issues as well, and it could be very beneficial for Hill and others to work with him. I know the young guys need reps, but it absolutely doesn't hurt to bring him in. There's no reason to give Hill tons and tons of reps when the one thing he does consistently is drop the ball. Let Hill earn his spot via competition. That's Idzik's mantra, and it might give Hill more motivation to elevate his game. Whatever happens I don't want to see the Jets wait until right before the season to bring Edwards in. Do it before training camp so he can learn the offense. There's no reason to wait. Worse comes to worst, Edwards doesn't play as much and assumes a mentor role. It absolutely cannot hurt. Letting him go after 2010 was the biggest mistake the franchise has made in recent times next to the Sanchez extension. I'd also take Brandon Lloyd.
