WTF are you talking about? we had nothing at WR - and 4 years later we now we have 1. a failing high pick QB - and nothing has changed. no pass rush - he didn't pick Q, and without Q our pass rush is bottom 5. no CBs - he did a good job here, though one cost the 4th overall. no o-line - and its somehow improved? That's your defense of JD's team building?
zach gets more press cos he was small school and more of a reach, but Fields also sucks ass becton was a dumb pick. it was wirfs all day and he got cute. its an F
All of his hype was based on fools gold: https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/the-downside-of-zack-wilson.95429/
I don't understand why there is even a debate on someone who is 20-46 and falling, if that doesn't prove sheer incompetence I don't know what does.
There are still some people out there delusional enough to defend Zach Wilson with: But he doesnt get the riiight plaaays O-Line is bad - he runs for his life Receivers are bad - they drop every ball Defense creates no turnovers - D-Line is baaaad
As bad as the OL is rn, there's no way you can really think the one he inherited in 2019 is better, right? Gotta just be some hyperbole on your part. Kelvin Beachum Alex Lewis Jonotthan Harrison Brian Winters Brandon Shell You think what we have now is worse than that????
This opinion might be polarizing, but I don't think the OL has been that bad this year. Still not great by any means but they haven't been as bad as some are making it out to be. Zach holding the ball for longer than any other starting QB and scrambling into pressure has greatly inflated those pressure numbers IMO.
Specifically with OL, I think the line we had against the Pats was decent enough. If we had even an average QB, we wouldn’t be talking about the OL like we are. Truth is if Zach sees the field and makes the throws and adjustments, this line would look average. But no, this fucking idiot calls an audible on the first play to run right where he has two blockers lined up against 3 defenders…like what the FUCK goes through his head? This is basic fucking shit. This team as built was good enough to contend for playoffs with an average QB, and for the Super Bowl with a HOF QB. But it’s not good enough to cover for THE WORST QB in the league 2 years running…hell even the 1985 Bears would have had a rough go of it if they had Zach
Its a fair opinion and honestly it is still too early to make judgements on the overall success of the line. However, I feel like last week was as good as it gets, mostly due to a wet field which favors the o-line. We do have an alarming lack of depth. But I agree with you, Zach is part of the problem.
Dude had a ton of draft picks and the most cap space in the NFL when he took over. He drafted arguably the worst draft pick in the history of the NFL and he's doubled down by refusing to jettison him so the team had a real backup for its HOF QB. The only thing worse would be if he signed him to a longterm contract (as Tannenbaum did with Sanchez, which torpedoed the Rex Ryan teams). He was also touted as a offensive line "guru," but despite spending plenty of FA money and early draft picks, the position group still sucks and might be the worst in the league. Finally, the team hasn't won. At all. We just keep losing. At some point, you have to actually show real results (not just results on paper). Overall, Douglas has been bad.
We can do a lot worse, we've had a lot worse. The record speaks for itself though... The fear of change Is the hiccup for me. What If we get worse next? We usually do find worse after something like this. That Is scary to me. That's insanity talking though. Our roster on paper Is light-years better than what we've had over the last 12 years. The results aren't though. The results are the primary thing and I got to keep reminding myself of that. The situation sucks. We should be winners by now.
Ummm let’s see how many championships has he won…..oh, too high a bar? Ok, how many times has the team made the playoffs under him……..
Smart GMs should be able to recognize it, yet most GMs had Wilson over Fields on their draft boards that year and most of the hardest core analysts were split on it. It's easy to say in hindsight, but it's LOLworthy analysis to claim he should have magically known. Were there no downsides at all to Justin Fields?
WRs are better across the board GW > robbie Lazard > an agining thomas Crowder was better then hardman but thats becuase CD retired out of nowhere. otherwise CD > crowder for QB JD got rodgers, you can't fault him for a freak injury. Rodgers > darnold ZW > fales for the d-line outside of Q it was trash. yes Q is a difference maker but you can't say our pass rush is bottom 5, different system and low blitz rate skews the numbers. if we blitzed on average the same as other teams, our pass rush would be above average even without Q. Q allows us to get elite pressure without blitzing, something no teams can really do in the NFL outside of pitt and SF and even them, without bosa/watt they are in the same boat. O-line is still better then it was sadly. I don't think you remember how bad it was. only 1 player form our o-line is still in the NFL. none of them were starting material. againg beachum, Shell, harrison, braden, mcdermott. it was trash. we both agre the o-line hasn't panned out and the CBs were a good job by JD. We just disagree on the QB, WRs, and pass rush somehow
weak points though. 1 and 2 are the same complaints people had about allen and he is a top 5 QB in the NFL already. point 3 was valid at the time, but now is moot now because zach has had no injuries to his throwing arm and he has a cannon still so the arm injuries aren't hurting him at all. the reality is all of zachs issues are mental. he just doesn't process and see things good enough. and that can't really be scouted due to the simplicity and imbalance of college vs NFL
this board was pretty heavily split on wilson vs fields. lasgar so was so pro fields and depressed when we drafted wilson that he quit the forums. it was a lot of arguing and trolling. at the end of the day, they both sucked and it didn't matter.
It actually was that bad until last game when they shuffled the line. But yes, Zach made it look worse because of the things you said.
