I would keep AVT at right tackle. He seems to thrive at that position. Not sure if Tippman ends up at guard or center but we now have two linemen we can rely on for the next decade. Becton is going to be interesting to watch. He wants to play left tackle but would by scary good if he ever lined up at guard. Now that Becton is healthy it will be interesting to see what he can do. I will be happy next year when Laken Tomlinson is off the roster.
Becton will never play guard for the Jets. Ever. And I'm no football expert but I'm pretty sure he shouldn't play guard for anyone.
Dodged a bullet with Evan Neal, glad we took Sauce... Evan Neal on crowd booing “Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep?” “The person that’s commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere ?” Holy hell, walking papers signed, sealed, delivered.
If we stick with the OL of Becton, Tomlinson, McGovern, Tippman, and Tucker, and if none of them gets hurt (which is a big if), then we have a halfway decent OL. But I never want to see Brown or any of the backup tackles on the field.
JD offered Brown more money than Cincinnati did, but Brown opted to sign with the Bengals saying that it was a better situation for him. Who else was out there and available? Please don't say Josh Jones. IMO Josh Jones is horrible and should have never been an option. The bottom line is that it wasn't a good FA for OL. Even if there had been several more stud OL available, JD was limited in what he could do because he had to save cap space to pay Q and to fit Rodgers in under the cap. I'm not going to worry about injury. Hopefully, none of our OL will get injured, but if they do, the Jets will just have to deal with it the best they can. Worrying won't prevent or change anything.
Van Roten was awful when he was here, and he's the one that got Becton's knee injured. Edoga was pretty awful when he was here as well, but he's now been in the league several years, and evidently is improving. I believe that our previous OL Coach was part of the problem, but I don't know enough about our present OL Coach to say one way or the other. Perhaps the schemes that Edoga and Van Roten are in now are more conducive to their abilities, or there's less pressure in those places than in NYC, or they could be getting better coaching. Something is definitely amiss from the number of injuries our OL sustain to their level of play. As you know, I have been a big supporter of JD, but I think that perhaps he puts the team salary scale over actual play on the field, i.e., he goes cheap on the OL so he can pay skill position players and playmakers. There is some wisdom in not overpaying FAs like our previous GMs have done, but the bottom line is that he is yet to build a solid OL. While he can't help all the injuries our OL have sustained, perhaps he can investigate the playing and practice fields more thoroughly or monitor our training and conditioning staff more closely. I had high hopes 2-3 years ago when he hired a guy to oversee our training and conditioning that had had great success with our Olympic teams, but so far I'm not sure that he has made a positive difference, and some of his training regimen may be at least partially responsible for the injuries.
I don't think that there's any question that he will make it through the season, and he will get better and better. If so, the only reason the Jets don't re-sign him had better be that he wants to move on and doesn't want to be here any more, and hopefully, that won't be the case, either.
so can I get this straight. Our current starting Offensive Line is Becton - Tomlinson - McGovern - Tippman - AVT Since tippman came in its got way more solid. Against the Pats it was ok. Players getting used to a new line up and changing positions. Against KC it seemed pretty decent to me. Zach getting passes out quick helped. But there was a couple of times he really sat in a pocket as well.
Carter Warren is back at practice. Hopefully we won't have to see him this year, but good to know he may be a back-up option soon.
Good to hear. It would be huge if he or/and Mitchell can become a starter especially in 2024. Don't want to see either of them this year so hopefully the practice reps and another offseason make a big difference for them. Need to hit on some of these mid round picks if this is going to be a quality team going forward.
Is this confirmed? If so, we are in a really tough spot due to lack of depth. Against terrible Denver D line we held up for a little bit. But against Philly and other opponents coming up this is going to be very tough. Let's hope Max has improved between pre-season and now, but ... I would be lying if I said I am not concerned. Maybe there will be some good news on AVT...
