You don't get it because i'm not ok with the state of the o-line, i'm just saying what solution was there? you can't get blood from a stone and the NFL as a whole is lacking talent in the o-line compared to the d-lines
lol you calling someone a prick has to be one of the least self aware things i've ever seen in my life. thanks for the laugh bud you are the typical "everyone that knows less then me is an idiot and everyone that knows more then me is an narcissistic prick" type of poster and you constantly berate people. at least I try and discuss. you are just miserable and if you can't take it then mute me or leave IDGAF
I already mentioned how he picked Brown and Turner over Fant. Fant is playing very well this year. Dawand Jones is playing well. Broderick may be more of a developmental guy, and there is no tape on him yet, but I would rather have him waiting in the wings too in case Becton or AVT gets hurt. Josh Jones was available. These are just some of the options which I know for sure were available. GM's job is to figure it out. It didn't seem like JD tried much after Orlando spurned us. With all that said, if Becton and AVT stay healthy and continue their play from last Sunday, we may be OK. Keep in mind that both got season ending injuries last year. This is a very risky situation, we already are playing AVT out of position and it took two games to figure it out, costing us Rodgers. And any injury to the oline puts us in a terrible spot again, assuming they can even keep up the play from last Sunday, which gives some hope.
he picked turner over fant. not brown. brown was alreayd under contract and fant was coming off an awful season and he's only had 1 good season his entire career and is aging. he's not playing well in houston either and 31 teams passed on him so he only got 3mil. the real mistake was letting morgan moses walk. we should have cut fant and kept moses at that point. moses is still playing well and only cost 5mil a year for 3 years. jones was a 4th round pick, we used a 4th rounder on an OT as well. jones went 111 and we picked 120. wasn't really an option. we lacked trade capital and no guarentee a team wanted to move back at that point. plus we are 3 games in, he isn't playing well. you are just naming names but none of them realistically would help the situation. The o-line actually played pretty well sunday. they looked average. CMC and tomlinson were the weakest links but AVT at RT outplayed all the people you listed. becton was just ok, tippman did really well for his 1st game ever. the point is JD has added people and tried, some just aren't panning out. QB is really our bigger issue right now. zach had plenty of time to throw and open WRs all game and did nothing with it but sack himself
I liked the shuffle this week. It won't happen, but Duane Brown shouldn't see the field again. Tippman seemed to be respectable at RG and AVT was PFF's RT of the week (I know, it's PFF, but I'll take it). Let Mekhi Becton show if he still looks like a legitimate starting LT while we're at it. Improvement in pass pro and while I know the results were not there for run blocking, I don't think that was all OL. Having ZW at QB has potential to hinder your rushing attack...
our o-line for run blocking really works best with AVT and becton on the same side. it's the only success we've had. but since AVT has to play OT now that won't happen, the pass protection got a lot better though. were lucky to have AVT
If Becton and AVT solidify our starting tackle spots this year then we can focus on adding two interior linemen to replace Tomlinson and McGovern in the offsesson.
Brown's contract wasn't guaranteed at all. JD could have easily moved on and many of us wanted him to do so. JD picked him and Turner over Fant. I agree, he had reasons, but they proved to be wrong. And result is what matters. The point was there were options, and JD missed on them for multiple years now, including Moses like you said. I also didn't see him try hard enough particularly at tackle during draft or trade market. Dawand was a consensus second round talent who had experience for major school. Instead of trading up he traded down to pick consensus 4/5 round injury prone older guy and get Kuntz. There just wasn't enough done, and the result speaks for itself. I am happy about past Sunday's OL performance, but I wish it came two weeks earlier, things could have been a lot different. I now hope that they can keep it up and that no one on the line gets injured.
yeah thats a good point. brown was good last year though and played through injury. I don't think we expected the fall off form him. in hindsight it was a mistake. fant already fell off though and keeping him to start wouldn't have been good either. last off season there was no great options. they all kinda sucked. tomlinson has been a disappointment as well which hurts us. I wouldn't mind moving on from him as quick as we can. Keep mcgovern and make tippman the LG I get dawand "fell" but i mean lots of guys are "2nd round talent" and suck. he fell for a reason (IDK what the reason is personally) but he hasn't been good so far and we drafted OTs in the 4th 2 years in a row so if mitchell and/or warren wind up being better then him, it's a moot point. I think we are banking on one of them to take over the RT spot so we can keep AVT inside. becton is also a FA and we are short on money so we'll need 2 new OTs in the offseason again.
I agree the truth does hurt many people--I just don't know if you are in touch with it all the time you criticize. You do bring some good shit to the table--all respect for that. But what's the point of putting yourself on a pedastal--let others do that for you imo.
I don't put myself anywhere. I just have discussions with people. I take the time to explain things to people so we can all grow. some people though hate others who are often right and devlop in their own mind what the person is about. I can't control that nor do I care. people can think what they want about me. I'm just here to talk about the jets. I don't really care about the immature nonsense some others get into it. people like vilma are just angry trolls and anytime they are wrong they will play the whole "your an egotistical person etc etc" and when they are right they will say "your an idiot" he's done it here for years, I have 0 respect for the dude. When i'm wrong i just own up to it and move on. very few people here can do that. it's probably why you don't see me being wrong much because it doesn't drag out into an ordeal like others when they are wrong and then will move goalposts or gaslight or strawman, or switch to personal attacks so it becomes more apparent. when i'm right I don't feel the need to point it out all the time people just notice it and get tired of it. but thats on them, not me. generally i get along with 99% of the people here
Getting back to the topic of OL. Watching NFL games this season, I noticed three maybe 4 OL, including Edoga and Van Roten, doing quite well, much better than with the Jets. I’m wondering if the CS on the offense side of the ball is part of our weak link. In addition we let people go because they have nothing left in the tank and they do well, we keep Brown because he had plenty left and was far from it. I’m not exonerating JD but there is more there than meets the eye.
Without the benefit of any stats, professional analysis, replays or anything... just watching live I thought the OL laid down the 2nd straight promising performance in this configuration. There were hiccups of course and there always will be but in general I feel like as long as nobody gets injured and this remains the status quo I think we're more than adequate for the rest of the season. Tippman looks like an asset. AVT is a fantastic player. And I feel like Becton looks more appropriate at LT than on the other side.
Becton had a few misses, but being the LT he goes against the best pass rushers on the opposing team more often. The line looked good. I saw Tipp got beat by Jones once, but I do think we found a stable line combination, just need to pray for no injuries, because the back-ups are rather brutal.
This is the lineup we need to go with. They have played more than adequately in the last 2 games. Wilson actually had a real pocket to work with and I didn't get the feeling of impending doom on every drop back like happens when Duane Brown is playing. Tippman is gonna be good and everyone else seems to be comfortable in their spot. Not a huge McGovern fan but he will do.
Becton is a huge upgrade over Brown. I hope Brown retires before the season is over. I don't want him anywhere near the OL.
