JD got a six year deal because the Jets were in such a monumental mess after Idzik and Maccagnan. So it’s way too early to judge after 1 draft and two free agencies.

Also, remember who JD handed those drafted players to last year...that’s right the worst coaching staff in the NFL. Too early to judge some of his picks based on that alone.

Still lots of holes to fill but let’s see how the draft goes. I feel positive about the Jets for the first time in ages.

I never get involved in trade talks etc and I might be about to prove why, but I can't shake the feeling that the Eagles are all of a sudden a legitimate trade partner. They now have two firsts next year and quite possibly three if Carson plays 75% of snaps or 70% and Colts make the playoffs. I have no idea how to value that Colts 2nd that can become a first but isn't it possible the Eagles only now have the ammunition to make an offer? Possible Jets could have five first round picks next year, our own, eagles, colts, seattle and whichever pick tuna's traded to the eagles. Would Joe give up Wilson for a package from the Eagles that included possibly 3 firsts next year?

Sorry if I'm talking out my ass

Throw your ideas out there, man. Don't be sorry. I think it's definitely a possibility. I don't love the idea of dropping all the way down to 12 though three firsts + is a good deal.

    Excellent post!

While I can understand it given the Jets' history, it's still amazing to me to see some posters rush to condemn every move. It's like they want to be the first one to point out an error in an effort to make themselves look smarter, more knowledgeable. Any of us who have been Jets fans for more than 15-20 years have been conditioned like Pavlov's dog to think and react in certain ways. There is reason for hope, however. JD is the most-qualified GM we've hired since Dick Steinberg or earlier. That alone isn't enough, but when coupled with the fact that in just a little over a year, he succeeded in wrresting control of the team from the Johnsons, changed the org chart so that he hired the new HC and that HC reports to him, that he hired who many thought was the best HC candidate available this year, the haul he got for Adams, all the draft capital we have, his signing not one but two Edge rushers in FA and improving the WR corps, there is reason for hope. He has made some mistakes, and probably will make some more. He is human after all.

We're all nervous and on edge. We're excited, or want to be, but are afraid to let ourselves go and be fooled and disappointed yet again. We know how important this draft is for the future of our beloved team. We're frustrated because we weren't able to upgrade the OL and CB corps during FA, and because either some FAs we wanted didn't want to sign with the Jets, used us to get bigger contracts, or JD showed no interest in them. We're passionate and impatient and that leads to knee-jerk reactions to moves. Our emotions get in the way of our rational minds. We're human too. We just have to hope and trust that JD will make the right decisions, that our CS will be as good as we think they are, and that by next year this time, we will be excited about the Jets becoming serious playoff contenders in the 2022 season.

No need to apologize. That could be a legitimate concern and is worth discussing.

Definitely not talking out of your ass. Maybe it's because the Eagles deal is so fresh but this is the first awesome trade down scenario I've seen where the Jets don't drop out of the top 15.

Now cue Noam to tell us that it would take 12 first round picks to equal the 2 pick on the value chart.

Not arguing the main point of the thread but I'm going to preach patience in every thread like this. He's well respected and for better or worse he has a plan. I just hope the Jets leave him alone and let him go to work EVEN IF things don't turn around right away

I think he's locked in for the next two seasons no matter what. After that, if the QB doesn't develop into a good player, all bets are off IMO

I think its right to start the clock on Douglas starting this year. Last year with Covid, a load of bad contracts, and Gase still the head coach, it made sense that he would be passive in FA. We've seen this year he could spend if it made sense to do so as he is willing to give Saleh the players he needs to succeed. I think 2022 playoff expectations is extremely realistic considering we have 4 1st round picks between now and next year's drafts along with plenty of cap space.

The only major blunder Douglas had in my opinion was letting Robby Anderson go. Its not like he cost the Panthers alot and it went to making things worse for Sam's development. Perriman was a dud and I hope Douglas learned from that. The draft picks in the middle rounds last year like Zuniga, Morgan, and Perine seem like misses as of today but who knows what Saleh can bring to their development.

...And that's why I think we need to see how this team is coached under Saleh to judge how good Douglas really is. Under Gase our offense was running the ball with a 37 year old RB 20 times a game like he was Curtis Martin in his prime. Gase didn't even bother with the defense and it lacked the most foundational pieces in cornerback and pass rush. With Saleh at a minimum we will see better effort from this team. If after Douglas's 2nd draft, 2 FA classes and a better coach the team still looks bad then he is definitely on the hot seat going into 2022.

Bryce Hall was considered a mid to late 1st round pick if he had come out in his junior year. He decided to return to school and was injured, his injury dropped him down the draft board, Jets were fortunate he dropped and got themselves an excellent CB that needs to refine his game.

He played a hand full of games and once he started getting comfortable he was doing a good job with coverage.

I expect him to grow and develop even more under Saleh’s new scheme.

I think he said Bryce Hall is going to have the second spot locked down, not be a "lock down corner."

That's kind of a big difference.

JD can’t afford to stick with Darnold. Wilson resets the salary at Qb for next 4 years + win-loss expectations. A sub .500 Darnold lead team will be inexcusable vs a Wilson lead one. It also injects much needed enthusiasm with the fanbase.

For the Lefleur offense they plan to employ, the key to success is the one thing Darnold hasn’t shown the ability to do - be consistent + don’t turn the ball over.

This is a no brainer at this point.

It’s exactly what I meant, I like Bryce but even I know he’s not a number one CB or will ever be that type of CB. However I will be happy with Joe for drafting a CB in the 5th round that can be a solid number 2 CB for Jets for years to come.

I don't. I think he's one of the best equipped GMs we've ever had, but I'm not going to trust him until I see a pattern of success develop. Until then, to me, he's just a dude with a plan to fix one of the most snakebitten franchises in NFL history.

This is nice to see coming from someone who's already fired Joe Douglas over 500 times already (in the last 2 weeks alone!) ;)
