mandatory evacs would most likely come tomorrow,no? They have to have a better idea of exact landfall within 24 hours.

Jim Cantore does not seem to be in agreement with Bloombergs casual urgency

What did Jim Cantore say ? I thought Bloomberg REALLY downplayed this storm,,,,,,and I think he actually said that this would " not be anything as bad as Irene " but I could be mistaken

Bloomberg said exactly that. He doesn't feel evacs are in order because the storm will not produce the surge of a tropical system. "there will be water, but only in low lying areas".Cantore said he hopes his decisions are enough and the right ones.

This storm is so large that the exact point of landfall really doesn't mean much.

Even an Ocean/Atlantic county NJ hit is going to carry with it a storm surge that's going to make Long Island miserable.

This is pretty much what Weather Channel has been saying all day. And then Bloomberg speaks and says this will not be as bad as Irene.

It's ok. Bloomberg consulted with Punxsutawney Phil on this one. We're good. Yes I did google that to spell it right.

Maybe Bloomberg will lift the 32oz cup ban. It'd make it easier for the people scooping water out of their basement.

My brother and family's in Glen Ridge, NJ. He just had construction done on the house and actually ran a gas line to a concrete pad near the garage so he can have a hardwired generator installed.

Bad news is that the contractor was saving it for the last project of the whole job.

Now he'll have a new interior which he and his family can enjoy in the cold and dark.

Hey..if you guys are going to ask questions..you have to listen to my proud rant...my son? He had a monster game..great game at OL. 6 Tackles in the first half and then they stopped going his way the second half. Kid has come a long way. Was a back up when he first started pee wee's and now in his last year before high school..he is probably one the best defense players on the team....dad bragging? Yeah.

Ok..on to Bloomberg...he sure as hell can tell you who much to drink but cant call a storm.

I didnt see it so I will answer yours and CBGs question together..my guess is he doesnt want panic and loves being portrayed as Mr Calm...but tomorrow he will start cancelling this and that. Secondly...unless the Harbor floods out..possible..its NYC. The beat goes on. Thats my initial thinking but truthfully I did not see it.

As far as him saying the storm is a weaker storm? Are you serious? Perhaps he meant that its not going to be a hurricane but a nor'easter? If that is what he meant...well thats true. But there are hurricanes that do not get a pressure as low as the one that will hit NYC tomorrow.

See, the storm cant truthfully be classified as a hurricane. Once it enters the water up here, it takes on the habits of a nor'easter. Now that sounds foolish...I get it..but it does.

Lets understand a couple things. The latest models show even stronger storm than the one we have described earlier today. That trend will continue. This storm will be one of the strongest every to hit this area...EVER.

For insurance purposes...and I do believe this is correct...the deductible on a nor'easter is much less than one classified as a hurricane. I read somewhere that unless you have hurricane insurance, your deductible is around 10 grand compared to $500 to a $1000 on a nor'easter.

Let me get updated and will get back to you.

Any advice as to how to avoid or lessen flooding in a basement?

Tuesday morning is such a tough call..especially down there. Up here..nyc metro..i would say easy no brainer...no appointment.

Down there? Is it still wound up and and beating down there..I would be guessing. Sorry. My guess is that so much will go wrong between here and there by tuesday that the decision may be made for you.
