I'm basically in the middle of LI, but I'm pretty sure that I'm on high enough ground that flooding won't be a huge issue. I'm more concerned about the wind/falling trees damage. Oh well...needed a new roof anyway.
The falling trees is whats got me too...huge one surround me. Dry slot in Central Jersey..wonder if that will fill in..if not..perhaps only about 3 more hours of the heavy stuff..think it will fill in. Wind is really gusting now.
Got some light basement flooding, helped my dad clean it up. Took a bucket outside and dumped it. Walked inside took one step on the tile and wiped out...felt like a fucking college freshman stumbling home after his first frat party.
This is a great link. Shows the precipitation that has fallen so far. Keeps updating itself. That dry slot above AC is what Im talking about...no additional precip there for awhile now. http://www.wunderground.com/radar/r...York,+NY&showstorms=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0
Mack* My dad is on the water in Point Beach. He said the water isn't an issue now. The rest of his neighbors on his block didn't leave, honestly, the house is raised up pretty high, so he should be alright....just probably won't have power for a while. I think he should have gone somewhere else, but what am I going to say, I'm sure he'll be fine.
This is the worst it has been all night...trees are swaying...yard is flooded. Pretty bad. Mac, hope all goes well with your dad. Having the raised home is big down there.
409 am...the next 4 hours will be the worst for nyc metro. Eye of storm located by atlantic city...will be by nyc in by 8am..which is high tide. Not good. Have a great night and good luck! j
Checking in from Hoboken. Streets are flooded. I live on 4th and Jefferson and the street has about a foot of standing water on it. Still have power which is shocking to me and awesome. On the third floor so I'm not too worried as far as damage goes. This is pretty crazy stuff tho. The winds are nowhere near as bad as I thought they would be here.
I thought that the only thing to worry about now was surge. No rain to speak of here and the winds have already died down. .
Well the center of the storm is still on its way, so the winds will definitely pick up more. Not sure where you are, but all of NY and northern NJ are covered in rain.
Lost power at 6 this morning. Came back 20 minutes later, but who knows for how long? Keeping my fingers crossed....
Amazingly enough we still have power here on the South Shore. I'm between Sunrise Hwy. and the Southern St. so, I've got my fingers crossed. If we do lose power, we're ready though. The trees are the one thing that always concern me. The rain and wind were battering the 2nd story of my house so bad last night, me and the wife slept in the living room and put the baby in our computer room (pack and play) which has no trees around it at all. Koz, you're lucking out. For once, the storm is west enough where the winds, the surge and the moisture aren't going to affect you as bad as the city and Jersey. Even for us, here on the Suffolk/Nassau border. I think the more western path taken by this bitch has weakened the effects for us to. Keeping my fingers crossed.
