Miami getting better and better forecast. I lucked out myself, had already booked a caribbean cruise for winter out of Miami and all the ports of call escaped Irma and Miami probably not getting wiped out either. There were some cruises that stopped in places that are completely wiped out. St. Maarten, Antigua, Barbuda, parts of Turks - completely gutted. It's total devastation

I bet you'll see some historic shipwrecks / treasure exposed in the shallow seas after this

We'll be packed and ready to go, and we don't have far to go. If it does kick into the gulf and comes north before coming in we will be heading out to Lakeland or Orlando, we have 3 different spots we can head to. I've headed out too early before and ended up putting myself in the direct path of the storm (Charley).

On another note, I told my wife I needed to pack up my Jets mugs and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. I'm at least taking my Jets coffee mug.

It's just so ugly. There are people riding this out in the Keys. We could have a high hundreds death count from this.

It's going to be like the 1935 hurricane where no single story structure was left standing after a 12 foot surge.

I just keep thinking about that tree in Key West, the one with the blue paint line drawn around it about 15-16 feet off the ground. That was the water level in Key West in 1935 at the height of the surge. Islamadora in the Upper Keys saw 18-20 feet of surge, enough to derail an 11 car train on an elevated track over the ocean.

In like 1999 I think, hurricane Floyd was bearing down on jville, ended up being a bust but,the weatherman were predicting the worse. Storm that would destroy the city, everyone out, who knows when they will be able to come back. Bridges to the beaches were closed, power to the beaches was cut in advance. Most of the city was heading out. I was renting a 2 bed 1000ft house for about 400 a month. Didn't have much in it, if I lost everything I was probably out 500 bucks.i hadn't decide whether to stay after finishing my enlistment so I wasn't buying things.Neighbors asked if I was leaving,"nah, some bars are staying open, ima ride this out" those bars that night were some great times. People are fun when they are drinking like it's their last nite. Storm never happened. I woke up around 1 in the afternoon expecting to see the apocalypse but it was just another day,but man that was a heck of a night.
I imagine the keys are going to be a good time for a lot of people who are pretty content with where they are.
The next storm I had a house and nice things. Storms weren't as fun anymore.

They're saying the wind speed could be right back up to 185 when it hits the warmer water on the approach to the Keys. The only hurricane that has landed on the US coast at those wind speeds was the 1935 storm and Irma is much larger than it was.

Lots of dead people walking in the Keys tonight. It's going to be a bloodbath. Darwin at work I supposed but still feel sorry for these really stupid people especially the innocent children

What do you guys think ? The guidance has this nailed down and stays as is or does it tick back East ? I would not be shocked if at any time IRMA turned North but what do I know .

OK morons riding it out in the Keys, it's real when all the emergency workers are getting the fu** out:

County Emergency Operations Center staff likely leaving the Florida Keys, anticipating a deadly Irma

“Now, we must think of the safety of our Emergency Operations staff and first responders and evacuate them out of harm’s way,” Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi said in a statement released at 9 p.m. Friday night.

County officials also urged Florida Gov. Rick Scott to beg Monroe residents and remaining tourists to get out of the Keys ahead of Irma’s arrival.

Well back up to Cat 5, getting tired of waiting to find out when it will turn.

Youngest daughter decided they are staying in Manatee now, boyfriend is the JV coach at the high school so they will be heading to the locker room there. No windows and solid metal doors.
Middle daughter is in Pinellas at her Grandmothers, hurricane shutters went up yesterday.
Oldest daughter is out in Lakeland, with the shift west I am hoping she doesn't get hit too hard, has 2 huge oak trees 10 feet behind the house. Pretty solid house so the trees worry me a lot more than anything.
Son is in Orlando and I think they dodged a bullet, still going to have high winds but not anything like expected.

Of course I rented out my rock solid, concrete block home, built to all the newest building codes in 2004, in December, so the renters get to ride out the storm in comfort, running the generator if the power goes out. Me and the wife get to load up the cars with everything we don't want to lose and run to a friends house. Sheriff rode through this afternoon telling everyone to get out of our neighborhood.

I have my priorities though, this is going in the front seat of my truck when we leave.

Not sure which way I want it to go at this point, plotted approximate latitude and longitude from the last run and it looked like it was going right over my house.

    ugh!!!!!
It is impossible for ME to come up with any best case scenario,,,,,,my thoughts are IF it shifts
any more west that would be horrific for the WEST coast. Family is on the EAST coast,,,,the best cate would be for this thing to fall apart over CUBA

My only saving grace is they expect it to weaken quickly. Last I checked they expected 85 mph sustained winds with gusts to 110 mph. Cat 1 or 2 is much better than what it is currently. Of course if it kicks west and stays over the gulf longer it would be a real shit show.

Was going to try and stay awake until the next Euro comes out but I figure I better get as much rest as I can, me watching the models won't do anything except have me wondering more where it will go. I'll wait till the morning and hopefully they have abetter idea about the turn.
