Slight shift to West coast this morning ,,,,,no ? Miami would avoid a direct hit under that but its still bad for all ,the storm has grown and is freaking huge !
There was a 9.3X solar flare a few days ago. They could be the result of the coronal mass ejection, which was predicted to cause major auroras and magnetic disturbances as it reached us. Not sure if Mexico was on the path of the CME as it arrived. Ohio was supposed to be near the center of the phenomenon when it happened.
OHHH great news,,,wife just told me that my stubborn in laws who were foolish enough to ride this out are in " a voluntary evacuation zone " translation means Voluntary = STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK ! just so foolish to be there when you did not have to be ,,,,a concerned CBG
Very good comment. Really hoping all down there the best...these things as they get to the coast tend to bounce around...and hopefully all will be safe.
It's a mysterious phenomenon that's been observed for centuries during earthquakes. Lots of theories over the years, but apparently the answer is that the earth's crust acts as a battery and during the violent shaking releases electricity stored in crystalline defects, so you have reverse lightning: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/...lights-earthquake-prediction-geology-science/ "Over the past few years, various theories have been proposed for how earthquake lights form, including the disruption of the Earth's magnetic field by tectonic stress and the so-called piezoelectric effect, in which quartz-bearing rocks produce voltages when compressed in a certain way. But Freund and colleagues now report that what causes earthquake lights appears to be an entirely different electrical process. "When nature stresses certain rocks, electric charges are activated, as if you switched on a battery in the Earth's crust," he says. The types of rocks that are particularly given to the phenomenon are basalts and gabbros, which have tiny defects in their crystals. When a seismic wave hits, electrical charges in the rocks may be released." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_light
Thanks, I'm going to stay put as long as possible, then head to my friends house which is only 10 minutes away but newer concrete block home. We'll have generator, gas grill, charcoal grill and a wood fired pizza oven, though that's outside so may not be too convenient. They also has 3 teenage boys so they always have 3 freezers full of food. Couple of days ago thought we might get a little breeze and light rain and now it looks like it keeps inching back towards us. On the west side of the storm at least.
Thanks, I'll update when possible. Edit: Mandatory evacuation order just came in for my area but we will wait until Sunday to leave. They are always a couple of days ahead to get the special needs people squared away.
So am I wrong ? Irma is fresh on everyones minds as should be but Jose is not far away from her and is a CAT 4 ,,,,,,,,this really needs to be watched also and not snoozzzzzzzed on,,,,just read that they are getting who ever is left OUT OF BARBUDA because Jose is coming !!!!!!
American Airlines trying to be with the cool kids: JetBlue started with the $99 fares for PR reasons, American copied them. United is the only airline that decided not to cap rates on people evacuating. I guess they need the extra money for security goons to drag bloodied passengers off the plane after they overbooked them
New Euro just out, shift a little more west, bitch keeps getting closer and closer to me, but they expect rapid weakening once it's over land. Then again it won't take too much more western shift to keep it right on the west coast and over very warm waters.
paging JayWayne pick up the white phone , Jay wayne the white phone,,,,,,,or maybe someone else wants to chime in,,,,the models are all going a little more west with each run,,,,could be thats whats actually happening -----but also could it be that they , like us are still digesting all the info they are gathering , need to process it and will make an adjustment back East ? Something tells me this could easily happen am I wrong ? I don't think anyone will know for sure when IRMA is going to turn North if at all until we see that move take place live on the radar . Whats the Margin for error on these tracks , say on the Last Euro anyone know in miles how far it could be over compensating West ? or East when that happens ?
The ridge is building in again 3000 miles northeast so Irma may even go well into the gulf and make landfall around Tampa with gusts over 150. The center should stay east of Tampa, but that ridge is building back faster than it should have so the upper level energy in the west gulf never dug in enough to push the storm off to the right
You sure about waiting for Sunday morning? Weather Channel has the eye of Irma over the Keys at that point and hurricane force winds extending out a hundred miles in all directions. If it gets over the Gulf and heats up again it could stay Cat 4 or even go back to 5 while totally swamping the west coast of Flordia.
Big shift West on all model tracks and losing steam over Cuba. Miami looks like will be spared worst winds but still gets hammered on flooding unless this goes to the Gulf
Gecko ,,does not look like a direct hit with Cuba,,,,but better than NO HIT .Its More like its the northern part , Cuba has mountains that would mess with Irma but they are in the Southern part . Also once Irma is in that hot water above Cuba ,,,oh my she will gain strength. Also "iF " it is a west coast hit and she stays in the waters longer rather than turning North sooner I would think better news yes for Miami but she would gain strength sitting over the warm water longer. How bad do u think flooding will be in Miami because I was reading earlier about the possible surge and the floor of the ocean off Miamis coast is sloped that will help hinder but not prevent surge.
