I'm far from an expert, but this storm seems to be going inland into NC a little more than was forecast. I don't know what that means, but she's moving slooooww.

This means, Christie and Bloomy are going to have more egg on their faces, than the grill at IHOP.

(Now we've got Obama with a staged photo op at FEMA HQ looking unpresidential Presiding over a relative Non Event.)

I don't know what NY will get, but here in eastern VA, the wind is blowing fairly hard, but the real problem is the rain. Its unrelenting and flooding low lying areas pretty quickly. The sad thing is that the worst part won't even get here for another 4 -6 hours or so. We're lucky that we didn't have the already saturated ground like you guys have up there. I certainly hope you guys don't get this much rain, because you'll really be in trouble with flooding. I doubt the wind will be the real problem.

I'm getting a kick out of how pathetic out local news people are. We have one moron who is out on the outer banks leaning into the wind like he's Jim Cantore circa 1991. I hope that fucker fall into the ocean. And almost every single on-site interview with someone in the rain is skipping in and out and pretty much useless. They are setting a new record in fail. They'd be better served to just put up a picture of the radar and shut the fuck up.

you can thank all the scumbags from katrina for this. if it werent for all the morons there this would in actuality be a non event.

however the weather channel is selling ad space at quadruple price this week.

Yeah I was saying the same shit. If this busts, the next time a bad one hits more ppl won't leave.

Prime example. When I was in college as a freshman, during finals week in December, the fire alarms were being pulled. So for the first 2 times I got dressed at 2-3AM and went out into the windy Syracuse winter. We're out there for 30 minutes, fire dep shows up, walks in, walks out and we can go back up.

The next times it happened I was like fuck this, if I see smoke I'll leave, until them I'm staying.

While the staged Obama shoot was hilarious, I cant blame Bloomberg or Christie for what they have done.

In fact...this jog to the west really is not accurate. The last few frames have actually showed a jog to the East. If that were to happen...even more water would be thrown into the city.

I hate the over hype too Hobbes but when its all said and done, there will be people that didnt even get the over hype and die anyway. All consciousnesses (is that correct?) are clear.

I didnt get the name of the town in NC but one town got a reported 17" of rain? Heard that on the WC.

Sorry I have not been around but you guys are doing even better than me. Will be on tonite.

As of now, the point of interest is what happens to Irene when she reenters the Ocean waters in the next 3 to 5 hours. Thats the key. Stays the same? Even a bit more weakening? A bit more strength? Does it shoot for Long Island? NYC? Bergen County NJ?

One thing is for certain...those wanting to be on the west side of the Eye will not be too happy with rain amounts. That is the bullseye...50 miles to the west.

That line seems to be driving right up the Hudson and will cause major flooding for all the flood spots for a good part of next week..maybe more.

    See ya in a couple.

It really doesn't matter what Obama does.

Hobbes will find a way to complain about it.

I've got a cousin in Mantoloking and they had to leave. My mom's friend is in Lavallette and the same thing. An old friend of mine lives in Barnegat and I don't know if it was mandatory but he has left his house as well.

Well, I would argue, that more than 24 hours in advance, is not reliable weather info.

I pointed out on the game postponed thread, if this was hitting on Thursday, (as in Financial markets open) they'd have been prudent.

Christie claimed credit for game movement.

Storm Not even to VaBeach, 350 miles away. So...to extrapolate...If it appears the storm arrives Monday morning, will Bloomy and Christie still keep everything shuttered?

    I doubt it.

Killing services this far in advance of any reasonable expectation was asinine.

No model had anything happening here prior to Sunday AM.

Seen the shots of Times square?

Yeah, I'm near all those places.

The rain started to pour at 2:00 in Toms River and stopped a few minutes ago. My only concern is my wife who has to work till 7:30. Due to her job, she is able to get a police escort if necessary. She normally takes the Parkway home, but the southbound side is shut down, so I don't know what will happen.

I hear what you are saying but I doubt there would be a perfect time. I get the Jet game today..but you know better than I...one person leaving the game drunk getting taking 3 hours to get home and being stuck under a bridge and drowning..and they would be calling for everyone's resignation.

Its thew world we live in today. Also, I disagree with models saying Sunday am. By late tonite..things will go downhill..and yes..I get it..still plenty of time for the game today. I hear you.

Surprising how NWS is not backing down from horrible conditions even in Wayne, NJ: They have no war in this battle of hype.

Tonight: Tropical storm conditions expected, with hurricane conditions possible. Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 71. East wind 29 to 34 mph increasing to between 36 and 46 mph. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts in excess of 4 inches possible.

Sunday: Tropical storm conditions expected, with hurricane conditions possible. Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 73. North wind 40 to 60 mph decreasing to between 40 and 50 mph. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Not just the game. Shutting down Manhattan on a Saturday afternoon was ridic.

Even with the available info, they could have made midnight, safely and responsibly.

The problem with shutting down a city is it has to be done early. I think the idea is stupid, but if you try and shut down a city at night you have chaos. Never underestimate the innate stupidity of the General Public.
